VRS vs UK scooby/evo

Featured Replies

Well my previous posts are there for all too see. I think you'll find I'm the same as I ever was.

The only thing that bothers me is peoples selling. Nothing personal, and I don't know why it bugs me:confused:.....it just does

Is that a pun or a typo?

5hite.......that was a typo..............DOH:O

hehe

I see your from cardiff, you dont drive a red octy 1 vrs do you? I was chatting to some dude from cardiff at last years WSM meet..

I don't but it was me you were talking too, along with mluton who has the red mk1.

I scanned your car for if you remember.

yea thats it :)

you also set my anti hijack locks for me that i still love lol I dont know why!

It had 0 fault codes then but now its a permanant fault and light! the cat in the BF is playing up and BF wont fix it so im living with it :/ altho that said i want a zaust that pops and bangs on the over run! but thats mainly because i just got back from Silverstone and i like that noise in time the feeling will go!

How is your lumpy tick over? all settled down

My lumpy tick-over is long since gone, regular throttle body cleaning keeps it in check.:)

Thats the main issue del, the Evo comes in a few guises the VRS does not (unless we are counting the 150BHP and 180BHP) this is a null and void arguement before it starts, like you say you can buy a brand new VRS for less then a second hand EVO, also the differance in power out-puts and base capabilities of the cars is so vastly differant its not like for like.

So for arguements sake lets say like for like-

A 2005 VRS standard with 180BHP (top model) then in a like for like faces a EVO IX FQ300 that has 305 BHP and 297 LB as standard, it does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds and has a limited top speed of 157MPH and lest we forget we are talking the base model here, so you would say you would need to be 1 million times the driver he is.

If you go like for like again and say spend 2k on your VRS, it will be better but take the IX FQ300 and do the same and it will be gaining alot more then you have.

Do what Del has done but also spend that on the FQ300 and god knows what he will have.

I dont know this for sure and Del who I have met on a few occasions I trust is not a billy bull ****ter (well apart from the 1.4 badge :) ) can have the last word realy as he has arguebly the most tuned Octy but im thinking even his car would struggle to post a 4.5 0-60 time altho on a nice long road I suspect it will real in the EVO and pass it at around 120 MPH and leave it standing from their, the only question is if we go like for like so give the EVO the cash for Mods del has spent I think the EVO would be in a differant world like 700BHP or more and with a chassis more able to handle it and not to mention all of the other running gear, 4x4 and such to make it like for like.

On a side note Del has not binned his car so he must be a decent driver with that power on that chassis lol

the FQ300 needs a service every 4.5k miles has a tiny fuel tank and gets about 20 MPG when driven like a granny, the Octavia wins plenty of area's with an EVO but plainly the EVO is in a differant league.

You are right in what you say but it's not like for like, there is a massive price difference. I could take a 4K vRS and 10-12K and turn it into a monster. Less money than your stock FQ300. This is not what this thread is about.

The original question was, would a remaped vRS compare with a standard Evo/Scooby. I say it does and wins in more areas, just not all. Sorry if that smarts but the truth hurts. The Skoda is a better all round car and a lot less money allowing for further mods. Just check out the number of members that have sold their Scoobys and bought a skoda, how many have gone the other way.

You are a prime example of a Skoda owner. You didn't want to sell out and buy a cheap Jap car just so you could flash the badge for some cheap respect. You bought something that was value for money and easily made better, respect.

Correct I brought a skud because i was looking at an Audi and the guy in the stealers said look at the octy VRS i laughed but he said go look so i did and relised the value for money i got betterd most things around.

Ask him about Johns (TaviaRS) old car and Scoobynet trackdays. The Evo thats mentioned in post 59 was a fully preped 400bhp track car.

Back in the day when myself, John and Paul were on track not a lot (if anything) came past us. The facts speak for themselves!

The thing is I don't want or need your agreement. We were there, so we speak from expearence not lies or stupidity as you put it.

45K for a new FQ400, 20K for a used one.

15K for a new vRS, 4K for a used one. We are talking like for like are we not.

If lord god almighty came down from above and perform the most wondrous miricle infront of your face, you would still be a non believer.

You assume that you'd need an FQ400, even the least powerful model of evo still holds up in my arguement.

And to give you the benefit of the doubt, you're correct about being there and doing it and me knowing nothing about your experiences but a "fully prepped 400bhp track car".....

... yeah, I'd want to see Lord God Almighty first

Sorry but I'm still a non believer. Show me the evidence and I will totally formally apologise on this forum and any other you wish :)

ok hero boy, just before i make you look really really silly.. i would like you to clarify the lengths you will go to by way of apology?

I would like it in writing via post and briskoda, in additon I think the least you could do would be take Des out for a curry. agreed?

:)

No need to be rude, just share what you have please.

Then I'll apologise wholeheartedly :)

Quite right, no need to be rude, but I could do with a curry. :D

You should read the whole thread really but just incase you missed it. Look at this link on Tyresmoke and read post 10. That's my old Octy, didn't even have a big turbo. The Evo owner in question was just a little supprised to say the least. He even came over at the end of the session to find out what the hell was going on.

Now then...what about this? - Tyresmoke Forums

PS I am not here to make a believer out of you, just setting the record straight. I'm not going to bother with this thread anymore, i've said my peace. :)

the trouble is that Des being faster around a track than a fully preped 400bhp track car in his Octavia only tells half the story; on it's own all it really tells you is that he is a better track driver and/or was willing to push his car further than whoever was driving the other car - the driver is a huge difference maker

With all due respect, a conversation on another forum isn't really evidence is it. Del (if I can call you that?), I don't want to suggest that your car isn't capable of what you claim - not at all - but just consider this:

I have a race with X car and loose. Once I catch him, open the window for a chat and he asks what I'm running, I lie and say I've got 50 brake more than I really have, I'll bet you within 1 day there'll be a forum post somewhere saying how X car anihalated my car "and the guy said he was runnin xxx bhp!!"

So no real evidence then

Curry is on hold for now ;)

On a side note, it sounds like I'm digging you out which I don't mean to do. From what i have read, I have an enormous amount of respect for your car and what you have achieved. Without people like you, many others wouldn't even open their bonnets. BUUUUUT..... I've been flicking through forums catering for different cars since I got net access in 1998 and I've heard a lot of hot air spoken about virtually every marque going!! I now just nod to myself and ignore it most of the time but I felt that this time I had to intervene about the 1st post with my humble opinion

All the best,

Rob

I have in the region of 1/2 terrabyte of track video of my octavia but tbh i cant be bothered uploading it to prove something to someone who i hardly know.. as for the curry Des knows thats always an option next time he is in yorkshire. Which leaves me in total saftey from opening my wallet as he gets a nose bleed when passing northampton...

As for you, I think you need to get your preconceptions of what it is that makes a car fast out of mind. My car had a lot less power than Des's does now and yet many people on here saw it mixing with supercars, 600hp cannonball supra's and so on. Setup, Weight, and driveability / driver ability mean much more.

You talk as though mine/jon's/des's octavias are pub stories. There are a very large number of members on here who have seen what they can do. If you want proof come over, have a beer and watch some videos.

I have seen Jon blow away scoobs round castlecombe in the wet in a 1.9 diesel octy. I have caught and passed a GT3 round anglesey in mine.. and to prove it was no fluke i went in the pits gave the car to another briskodian and he went out and did the same.

Would you like to see a magazine article? I have one scanned in at home. It contains a write up on a Subaru trackday which I attended. I was driving a diesel Octavia and the only thing quicker than me, in the wet, was a Focus RS that races there in the saloon car championship. He was only 2 seconds a lap quicker :D

Then we could move on to recorded lap times, 1'22" for Castle Combe in my old RS which wasn't massively modded. Want to talk Ring lap times? My RS was 8'31", my diesel was 8'57"

There were very few Evos that I wouldn't tangle with, mainly people like Blade from MLR with his VII. I have lots of on track videos and have been timed many times.

Which of the 2 cars would I pick? As the best allround car for day to day use, for me, it would have to be the Skoda. For a second / fun car it would be a VII Extreme :D

In fairness though Jon, you are a fecking good driver (or so I've heard!), I don't know about Paul or Des but driver ability plays a huge part in track days!

You'd beat around a track driving a Mini but it doesn't make the Mini a faster car does it?

he is quicker than me round the ring, i only did an 8.55 but them ive only done about 30 laps to his 400 ish.....

You are faster than me over the first 4 or 5 laps as your style is more aggressive than mine, between 5 and 10 laps it'd be give and take, anything longer and I'd have you as I'm smoother :D

So if we do N24 you set the grid time :D

So when we do N24 you set the grid time :D

ok

Des can do the night bit... that looks tiring.. and i have heard he does his best work when nobody is looking.

as the title really. just wandering what chance a remapped vrs would have against either a scooby or an evo. surely not much as the the others would be similar power but would have more power train losses.

:rofl::rofl::rofl: Its gone from the OP question to a d1ck swinging contest. Is it just me that thinks this has slightly strayed? The answer to the question above is NO. Its as simple as that. Now if i was to ask,

Can you spend an absolute shed load of cash on an Octavia vRS and turn it into a totally different car apart from the shell. Could it then compete with an EVO that has had a shedload of cash spent on the engine?

Then the answer would be yes. I'v thoroughly enjoyed watching this thread progress though. It certainly beats listening to my kids squabble over there toys.

oh sorry i forgot we are all liars. not to mention i forgot spending 10k plus on my car.. there were no big turbo GTxx jobs on mine, jons or des's first mk1.... which are the cars we refer to being on track. mine had a k04-001 in later lift but im "reliably" told that is worth sub 20hp by the "big turbo" boys. Go and play with your evo but pop backto tell us how much you spend fixing it.. we all enjoy a laugh.:P

In the words of ARNIE (The Terminator)...................He will be back, knowing Des he will not be able to resist it..LOL

 Will do.

First off i have spent £70 on fuel and i'v covered 300 miles. Most of that was a steady 80 on the motorway home from picking it up. I'v booked it in for a full service at the cost of £280 at Steve Hill Motorsport. As soon as anything changes i'll let you know first:D It really is comforting to know that you are concerned for my finances though:thumbup:

Darren

i think your trying to compare the wrong cars...

maybe try comparing it to the type r/st/gti's etc etc...?
