Mounting Bracket, Custom made drive belt and a remap?

I know the gearbox should be tough enough to handle it, and they got 125BHP out of the 1.6 engine in the Lupo GTI so I think we're all okay on mechanicals

Can anyone see where I'm going with this, apparantley it's popular to retrofit because it has a self contained lubrication system. There's lots of these going sometimes on ebay as they are popular to upgrade for a Works Supercharger

Any thoughts on how much time and money this could be?

Well first obvious question is where are you going to drive it from?

If you really really wanted the power you could swap the A/C system for a blower.

Ive thought about this too. But a Mini cooper one wouldnt give enough ooomph. Would be best to get one off a 2.5L merc.

Lead me to ask a probably super stupid question..... can I add a supercharger to my tdi?

Seen one fitted to a polo g40 as a replacement/uprated.Watched it hit 174bhp on the rollers.

Yes, I am quite interested in taking it further because I think it will be alot easier than turbocharging, I.e no new exhaust manifold e.t.c. I would like to keep the A/C unit, but I assume this was suggested as it sits on the auxillary drive belt (where I want it driven from)?

Not to mention the great noise a supercharger makes, as whiny as possible is how I like it:D

As for taking the one off of a Merc, there are a bit too big for mounting in the engine bay, and im not looking for too much of a power increase. I think the combination of the supercharger and the automatic gearbox will create a smooth drive that won't stress the engine too much. Also I think that the Merc superchargers will cause too much initial power loss/drag

In terms of a power increase Im looking at around 130BHP to keep up with a Fabia vRS.

I think the car will be safe with that sort of amount of power, it already has uprated brakes and I think the chassis is good for a bit more poke yet:thumbup:

I have, not on a Skoda though.

Yes the A/C comment was in relation to a drive point. Otherwise it's custom brackets and aux belts which are I guess an option.

a roots type supercharger as found on the mini cooper wont be able to make enough boost to kep you dieselheads happy, it will however make upto about 12psi all day long with virtually zero lag....

it can be fitted to the small 1.4 and 1.6 16v engines surprisngly easily with a few custom brackets but the engine internals wont be able to cope with the extra heat stresses

the most important thing with any supercharger conversion is getting the belt drive spot on, any missalignment will throw the belt off... the belt drive needs to be reliable and very well tensioned because it takes about 40hp to turn the supercharger over at full whack

M45 displaces 750cc per revolution, with the standard 55mm supercharger pulley and the standard 130mm crank pulley it will give about 10psi of boost on a 1600cc engine

I gathered that It was important to get the belt right, do you think that the 1.6 in the Fabia won't cope with the extra heat? I think its a very tried and tested engine, I beleive it's the same one from the MKIV Golf/Bora but then I don't know if anyone's whacked a supercharger on one

If it's really going to wreck the engine I won't do it because it's a very good car as it is, but until Skoda pull their finger out on a new vRS there isn't an awful lot of power on offer

Trouble is, superchargers need rebuilding more than a turbo.

Get a supercharger off a V6 petrol, and get a smaller pully, and that should do.

I think a supercharger will help with the traction too.

Also, remember, a S/C 'd petrol will have a higher rpm, an rpm your vRS lump wont ever get to... This means you will need an even smaller pully than a petrol to get good boost. (due to the lack of engine speed spinning the S/C).

Also, if you have a supercharger, your engine wont get as hot, you can do natraly asperated tuning methods such as long branch manifold, and a big old polish and port without having to worry about turbo affects.

Stop coming on the forum till youve bought your 'charger and contacted derv doctor, as im sure he will be game.

it will get hot;) not as hot as turbocharging mind you...

the biggest bugbear of supercharged engines is wasted spark ignition systems.... DONT DO IT with wasted spark ignition, what happens is that the 'dead' spark ignites the fuel vapour in the intake/supercharger... you've been warned...

if the OP is dead set on supercharging, if you stick the engine and supercharger on a pallet and send it to me i'll manufacture the custom mounting brackets for a small fee

Yeah, sorry... I know it will get hot, just not like a turbo'd engine like he has got is what i ment.

You wont get the same amount of of underbonnet heat, so fuel being delivered will be cooler (which is good when 'ragging it'. lol ). I would go down the LBC (long branch manifold) route, and heat wrap it too. For the sake of £50, it would be worth it.

I thing a S/C system may even weigh less, i know you need mounting brackets and a s/c, but you dont need the turbo, cast exhaust manifold, big cast alloy intake, intercooler, 'cooler pipework, EGR may aswell come off.

Having said that, a water/methonal cooler would be a good idea, but that doesnt weigh much compared to what your taking off!

Also, isnt the "dead spark" systems not for petrol only?

Get a smaller pully for the s/c , and maby a bigger one for your crank (not sure if you can get bigger ones for your crank mind!).
