vRS tuning - non warranty voiding

Featured Replies

Agreed, so rather than the mod friendly dealers having their names mentioned, wouldnt it be better if a quiet pm was sent to those asking so as to try and keep their (the dealers) anonimity and help preserve their friendliness?

Andy,

I think the general response from the regular posters is that mods = no warranty...nudge, nudge...wink, wink..

Individual posters should simply be told to be honest with their particular dealer and take it from there, rather than being given the name of X, Y or Z dealer...After all, we have no way of knowing who is asking, do we? ;)

Absolutely. It doesn't hurt mentioning the ones that do not step out of company line though... like Merritts in Aylesbury ;)

I do expect an christmas card this year...:D

Yes, but what I mean is wouldnt it be better not to blat on here that "your" dealer overlooks your modded car...whatever it is. (and for your read whoever).

Thats all I am saying.

Whilst we all want the best service and help, and are very happy to pass on the names of helpful "people", I think there should be a little more circumspection shown to naming dealers etc etc. Thats all.

Actually...

ALL dealers strictly follow the VAG rules without exception ;) ;)

I think that should do the trick

You forgot the nudge nudge smilie ;)

:nudge:

Doesn't seem to work :P

Will this do ?....:jab:

More of a prod, but it's close enough :D

Anyway, my car is standard, i have no such worries.

cheers for all the repairs guys, I think I'll wait and see if I kill myself in it first if not I might look into making it faster.

Its the fabia vRS I'm getting but I'm going from a 1.4 corolla and previous to that a 1.0l H reg polo :). So hopefully to me it will be fast enough for a while

Personally, I'd tweak my 1.8t a bit and take the risk - maybe apr 205bhp job - if it wasn't for the auto gearbox, which is only available with engines producing 210nm. There must be a reason for that...

Have a word with Mike (KLB).....he has a Jabba-ed 1.8T auto.

In my experience dealers I have dealt with use a common sense approach & will fix known faults & things that are not affected by mods but will take a more serious view on other items. I am just about to do some work on the car which the dealer has said "we dont recomend" & I know what that means

If you have a reosnable dealer it might help you both if you dont post it here, if someone asks a question PM the answer, remember, "Big Brother Skoda" is lurking somewhere around this site

Ps Big Brother, if you read this can you please include a 130 bhp 4x4 in the new Octy range PLEASE PLEASE or I will buy a Passat !!!! EEEK

from my short spell in a dealership it works a little like this.

Dealers get paid for the warrenty work, they dont get full whack but it's a nice earner. The only time they will probably be funny is when VAG gets funny some warrenty jobs need to be checked by a manufactures tech. to make sure is it valid.

When I was with Honda a few chiped and tuned honda's came through some of which have been in a few mags, we done the warrenty work with no major gripes, but like I said above if (in this case) "Honda" gets funny about it then you might come unstuck!

As said before if the mod hasn't caused the problem then you should be ok, if your worried about it dont do it and best not to mod from new, give it atleast 6 months for any teething problems to come out as even the best cars have them!

When I was looking for my (used) Octavia the boss of my local branch was taking my requirements (useless as that was - ended up going elsewhere as they never found me one). He went on a bit about the cars themselves but said "you seem to know about the range - the 1.8T engine - 150bhp ... or more", at which point he dipped his head as if he was glancing over the top of invisible specs, telling me a big secret, "...if you want it to..." (slightly hushed tones).

I take that to mean that if I went back to him and reminded him of the conversation he'd be sweet as a nut about it ... but I'm still gonna wait out the 11 months of warranty before I visit Jabba :D

Last year I test drove an Octy vRS, and recently I test drove a Furby vRs at a main dealers, both had mods. Dealer also advertises superchips.

When I got out of the furby after a 20 mile test run I checked the tyres and it was on 40 profiles, I thought it was sticking well.

Must assume if the demo cars are modded, it's a mod friendly dealer. Excellent dealer but won't name them here.

As my Octy has only done 9k and has 2 years of warranty left I ,of course , won't mod it, and was quite surprised at the standard output on the rolling road.

When you take your car to the dealership to be serviced, are there any visible signs, or routine checks made that would show that the car has been jabba'd, or is it only if something goes seriously wrong with the car that they would check?

there are ecu upgrades out there that totally go back to standard setting and leave no trace at all

They all leave a trace code in place.

Steve

The code is still there but they wouldn't look. Most dealer techs are just there to fix what's broke - not to poke around looking for ECU mods. If it's not one that you can disable I'm pretty sure they'd notice if they took it for a test drive as they drive quite a few - could always shrug it off as "a good one" I suppose but you know they'd know really :)

Doubt the mechanics care much if it's invisibly modded or not really though ... do they?

Depends on whether or not you put the JabbaSport sticker in the window ;)

APR advertise their work as being undetectable - and you can switch back to the standard map via the cruise control. iirc you can even stick it in a "valet" mode!

This is the wording of the relevant bit of the new car warranty:

The warranty will not apply:

To any component that has failed due to neglect' date=' or misuse, or has been materially altered or modified without the approval of SkodaAuto.[/font']

Where failure has occurred as a direct result of a lack of or improper servicing.

To components that are not of the manufacturer's selection or approval.

To damage or defects due to:

- repairs by a workshop not authorised by SkodaAuto.

- installation of parts not approved by SkodaAuto.

- failure by the customer to comply with operating instructions in the owners instruction manual and service schedule book etc.

To any component that has failed as a result of accidental breakage, fair wear and tear or where work undertaken on the vehicle is reasonably considered to be of a service nature (including but not limited to the following examples:

Filters, spark plugs, drive belts, bulbs, wiper blades, clutch and brake linings, catalytic converter, glass, tyres, wheel alignment and balancing, head lamp adjustment, adjustment of doors and bonnets including mechanisms, fuel system cleaning, brake system cleaning and adjustment).

Did anyone notice here , when the WIPER BLADES !!!! start wearing out we cant even chage them AAAAAARRRRGGGGG we could be scratching the wiindscreen with metal

If you go for the JabbaSport boost control it is removable and you insert a jack plug that can be tucked away out of sight. This reverts back to a "standard" map for servicing etc. The ECU checksums would still give it away but it will look and drive as normal.

This can also be used as an immobiliser for airport car parks which is or course the only reason I have one :-)

How? The jack plug?
How? The jack plug?

Thank god it's not just me trying to work that one out.
