MK1 Octy VRS zaust 'hanging low'

Featured Replies

Hi all. I've seen a few octavia's with my particular issue. My exhaust tip seems to be hanging down quite a way from its little cubby hole cutout in the bumper, and it looks a little odd. The rear hanging V type rubber is there and hasn't broken.

Is this a common problem? Is it the hanging rubber needing to be replaced possibly? Any help welcome as it really lets the car down I think!

How is the centre mounting?

ah havent checked that one, im pretty sure its ok but will check

Sorted mine at the weekend. You need a new rear hanger to bring it back up, as the rubber 'Y' stretches over time.

Part number= 1J0253144J @ £4.17 + vat

Two 8mm bolts (with 13mm heads) hold the bracket on. The new rubber comes with the steel bracket that bolts to the underside of the car.

You don't even need to jack the car up, as access under the rear is good. 15min job probably. Nice and easy.

Mine looks alot better now anyway...

Mine hung low!

ive got the same problem, looks like im going to buy a new hanger!

Nice satisfying job this one! Mainly because it's so easy and you get an instant result!

I rammed a cardboard box under my exhaust backbox to hold it up while I removed the rear hanger. So just make sure you support that backbox, otherwise it might break a join or the centre mount in the process.

Bodge would replacing the rubber help the alignment of the tail pipe? Coz my tail pipe has always been at a funny angle, if you look at the rear end straight on the tail pipe is higher at one side than the other

Hi

The centre braket that Lummox asked about is very common for breaking off too

I think that is why he asked

We had 2 Golf`s in yesterday with the said braket broken

mine broke a while back. skoda went all round the houses and when they said it was covered be warrenty I had been to a local place an he welded it. the simptoms were a horrid knockin when over bumps and goin round corners.

then got a longlife one made up.

is there only one hanger? as i thought there were a couple on there? GSF do them for £3.50 ...result! cheers for that part number, helped a bunch!

If there are 2 hangers, the most likely cause of the tailpipe(s) being squint is one being longer and/or more stretched and/or lower poundage than the other.

thanks, ive just ordered 2 from GSF, will put them on at the weekend.

Always thought the exhaust was hanging abit low, defo going to get a new rubber now, cheers.

i just welded the exhaust to the bottom of the car no movement now and sits perfect :rofl:

only joking orderd new bracket as mine is hanging low and proud :D

lol!!

clive i'll send you a MMS tomorrow morning mate....i promise :)

Anyone know part no. for centre exhaust mount?

I think it's mainly this that needs replacing as they tend to go first.

Once they go it creates more tension on the rear mounts, hence why the rear hangs low. :thumbdwn:

Would be good idea to change all three at the same time.

Thanks

nath, i have a spare rear one you can have.sorted mine out today, sits nicely now!

as for changing all three.......

ok maybe i'll stop being lazy! i'll wait til you get the part numbers though hahaha!

Yeah nice one jack that would be great, so is thier only one rear mount or two? You've confused me now  lol

i only changed the rear most one, just next to the back of the n/s/r wheel, only had a 30 min lunch break so to be honest i didnt look any further, that one sorted it out anyway!

Went to GSF this morning and they said the rubber and hanger were dealer part only.
