MPG run

Featured Replies

On a steady drive today i managed my all time MPG best

I was averaging 39.9!

The highest iv ever had out of the car

Whats the best youve managed to achieve? :)

Not an Octy vRS I know, but I've managed an average of 40.1mpg over a tank in my Focus ST225. :D

44.6 mpg out of an Octy Vrs estate .....but I nearly lost the will to live

2006 Octy 1.9TDi

Drove 100 miles from Nottingham to north of Leeds - M1, M18, A1

Late evening with virtually no traffic.

Set the cruise control at 60 mph and hardly turned it off all the way.

MPG on the computer was 71.2mpg

Driving more normally! North of Leeds to East Grinstead (260 miles) via A1, M18, M1, M25. Computer gave average speed for the journey as 60mph with mpg of 60.2mpg

Around the 68mpg mark on M'way journeys... Or a slightly less impressive 45-50ish around town.. :D:D:D

57.5 MPG is best so far, but looks like I'lll beat that on this tank of fuel.... aimming for 60, just to see if it will do it!

About 62mpg on a trip from Nottingham to Dumbarton via Tyneside (M6 closed just North of Penrith, S-bound tailback up to Carlisle), cruising at 70 on dual, 60 on single, and odd bits of wellying to overtake.

since i had a new clutch fitted, the trip is telling me i have averaged 58.3mpg for 1700miles.

I managed to get 41.1MPG out of my 04 VRS on a steady run to Thirsk over the weekend.

Not too shabby eh !

On a recent trip to Oxford and back i managed 40.9mpg on the way down and 41.1mpg on the way back in my vRS WRC with stage II REVO, zorst, CAI etc. I was well impressed :)

I have a 1.6 and on a run get around 42.6 mpg is this ok? it seems most of you guys have bigger engines and ae getting the same or a bit more (petrol engines that is)

Is 42 mpg on the open road normal for the 1.6 engine.

I was amazed today when i found out they put a 1.4 engine in the octy  Wonder what that would do to the gallon.

I thought remapped cars trip are not accurate? I take no notice tbh

I managed a very steady drive in my Vrs and got 44mpg from a tank of excellium, still kept up with the flow of traffic and occasional smile at the traffic lights. Most of the journey is on national speed limit dual carriageways though!

In steady speed cruising, the bigger engines are using longer gears and turning over slower as a result. They'll also be using lower throttle openings to maintain speed uphill and accelerate with the traffic.

As for the accuracy or otherwise of the trip computer on a remapped car, you can establish tank mpg without reference to the computer.

I averaged 39mpg at the weekend, bumbling about on the peak district! Not sure how i managed that, as i never have before!

I guess all the long downhill sections boosted the average.

I normally get 35mpg on long motorway runs, and 30mpg when driving with a bit more spirit.

On my first ever lap of the Nurburgring I averaged 28mpg! Which was funny! Everyone else was talking about lap times, when i jumped in with my fuel economy figure for a laugh!

To be honest though, I'm not that bothered if my fuel economy gets low, as you pay for what you get. It's cheaper than a fairground ride anyway, and much more fun sometimes!

If I cared about economy I'd stay at home and cycle to work. Fossil fuel burners will be a thing of history by the time I'm an OAP, so you may aswell enjoy it while you have it!!

i saw a indicated 43.9 mpg on a run to howden last night in my o4 vrs, never driven so gently in my life though!!!
