Dead Bugs Querie

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Just a quick querie SWMBO has been busy cleaning the car and can't get all the bugs off the front of the car, she is using Bug Spray (Turtle Wax I think) but still not coming off.

Any ideas to get them off without damaging the paint??

And does the heat not help either.

Hope you can help.

A long soak always did me (bucket and sponge cleaning)

Mine always come off no bother using Snow foam to soak, then a nice blast with the karcher.

Very hot soapy water, soak a tea towel and leave over affected area for 30 seconds - minute and then wipe off.

Works for me!!

Cheers guys, I'm going to give it another quick scrub later when I get back from work before I polish the car. think thats the first wash in a couple of weeks.

One of those "sponges" with microfibre on one side and mesh on the other may help.

I use them on my windscreen...work well.

Think I have one of them somewhere in my big bag of cleaning stuff

So what polish are you using tonight Davy ?

You could always try a bit of claying, gets them off the front of mine if the sponge doesn't work.

I’m pretty sure I read once that WD40 is brilliant for bug removal and doesn’t damage your paint (not sure about the last bit)

I use a sponge from halfords called a bug shifter pad and its only about £1.99, its really worth it

As above I have used in the past kitchen roll, soaked and layered about 4 sheets thick to retain moisture, go and have a cuppa then they should be soft bugs.

Careful with the mesh sponges, they are abrasive!

just make up a wash solution and soak the area for 10 minutes the bugs should just fall off.

Hi Guys,

Many thanks for the suggestions, never got a chance last night due to the weather and among other things at present, will see if the weather holds up for tonight.

If it's been raining hard, get out there with warm car washing water and a Mitt or MF and wipe them off while they are wet and relatively soft.

autoglym bug remover spray and snowfoam and karcher seems to do well and then a regular wash and rinse.
