Caravan Ownership

Featured Replies

CJ , the picture you paint of Kielder sounds wonderful ...............if only you weren't in a caravan . :D

There again you might prefer the sounds of drunken obscene english skinheads, wandering through the steets of Kavos, looking for a fight, with the gentle aroma of thousands of burgers wafting through the stifling 90 F night air! Fantastic!

And that sounds even worse !

Sorry Tracey. I was generalising, and tarring you with that flamin brush that all of us caravaners/campers are tarred with.

There are exceptions, and you are obviously one of them! Good on ya!

It is a bit frustrating though, and I suppose a bit amusing that us blokes do tend to all get lumbered with the same jobs...normally the crappy ones! :D

colin

just thought of another huuuge advantage of a caravan.

a couple of years ago I was scrutineering at the annual fireworks meeting at Santa Pod.Excellent meeting, night burnouts of top fuel cars and much more.

After the racing there was a big firework display so as it was cold we all sat in the van in comfort drinking.

Later,in the the rush to exit, there were huge queues -went on for ages with very little movement. We just had a walk round the pits, went back to the van , went to bed.In the morning got up and a nice easy drive home-no queues,no problems (not even numpties in silver cars :P )

have used it a lot for race meetings - luxury

marc,

thinks its time to introduce these disbelievers to:

http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/

What tickles me is that not one of those who are doing all the critising has admitted to trying a break in a modern caravan on a modern site.

Take my caravan to Ty Croes when I'm competing. Not an official camp site granted, but all mod cons. available, all for free ,and with the most fantastic views you could wish for!

Nice to do my runs, then go back to the 'van and have a brew and kip!

Caravans were banned on Jersey until last year when a limited number were allowed to come (45 IIRC) these must proceed directly to designated campsites with police direction and they have to stay there until they return to the ferry port.

Is this the thin end of the wedge?

Should we be worried?

Will we be forced to wear cardigans?? (and listen to James Last records?)

Another pet hate is/are outside Jacuzzis ... are these not just an excuse for communal colonic irrigation!!

Do caravans have Jacuzzi ?

Don't forget this site as well

http://www.campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk

Apologys accepted C.J. Camping & caravanning club use ty croes as a a temp. holiday site as well. i'm off to Anglesey on Friday Aft.

Well for you then hows about www.numpties.co.uk

And this one exsists!!!! :D

Agree about a test' date=' both for towing and loading - see some horrendously loaded setups with towbar nearly on the deck and front wheels of the car virtually off the ground - would not like to steer in an emergency in *that* outfit!!

To be honest, a small (30mins?) test should be compulsory for all towing.[/quote']

I believe all those that passed their test after 1997 do not have towing catogory on their licence. I may be wrong though, and I'm not sure how you get it either!

Not lurking or prying Tracey, but approx where on the island are you going?

We went to 'Home Farm', Marianglas last month. Absolutely superb!

Off to 'Brighouse Bay' in 2 weeks..Dumfrieshire. The kids will love it. Quad bikes, horse riding, beach, cycling, walks, swimming pools with chutes, indoor playing areas if the scottish weather turns 'orrid. Part of the 'Best of British' organisation.

Have a good time...and keep emptying that loo girl!! :D

Do you know Col, I think you are right. Sure I've read about that somewhere.

Doesn't affect this old twozzer though! :D

Ay you caravan haters. I've found just the site for you all:

www.ihatecaravans.co.uk

Why don't you all go in there and feel at home with your caravan hating mates, and leave us sensible ones to enjoy our hobby/pastime/holidays etc.

I think they are rather sad myself to set up such a site,but...in this free and democratic country of ours, you are entitled to your opinions and beliefs as much as we are

Cat B is quote dvla site.

Motor vehicles with a MAM not exceeding 3500kg having not more than 8 passenger seats with a trailer up to 750kg. Combinations of towing vehicles in category B and a trailer, where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3500kg and the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle.

So can tow as mine is only light. but there is a provisional entitlement to group B+E Cars with trailers

Combinations of vehicles consisting of a vehicle in category B and a trailer, where the combination does not come within category B.

So what exactly does the provisional bit mean? I can't find it on the site.

It had me really panicing then. I passed my test in 98.

I am over at Hollyhead/ valley side of anglesey, near church bay. Not been to that site before, usually on another, but its close by.

PMSL I just took a peek at the other site, under 10 reasons why to hate, there is none, picture section again None, they so hate us, they can't even think of 1 reason why.

Thought it must have just been my steam internet connection, 'cus I got the same hilarious blank result

interesting thought

the two of us defending caravans, both actively involved in motorsport , driving vrs's

makes you wonder of we are quicker than most of the numpties that complain about "slow" caravanners

marc

:moon: :rally:

Ay thanks for that. Have added it to my favourites :D P'raps you'll see a bit less of me in here now you lucky Briskodians

numpties ....think?? surely those two works do not go together

the whole anti caravan thing is like a flock of sheep the one at the front hates us and bleats about it.The ones following also hate us and bleat about it but dont know why - they just do it 'cos its obviously fashionable

:sheep: :sheep: :sheep: :sheep:

Food for thought that one marc!

My Vrs is a fabia by the way...sorry. Use a poxy Cit. C5 for towing at the moment.Bit unkind really...the car isn't that bad I suppose, it's cit u.k. that I really hate. Animals! Give us your money and sod off attitude.

Bit like Stirling caravans too I'm afraid.

CJ , thought you might like this one ...........a forum , not for sad Skoda owners , like us , but for sad caravan owners [url']http://www.caravanning-online.co.uk/caravan_talk.htm[/url]

Actually I think there are quite a few other members in here that enjoy caravanning. P'raps they haven't seen this thread yet, or are a bit shy like you Tracey and me ey?

Pretty sure jon is a caravanner, but think he must be away. Havn't seen him post for a while. Wait 'til he comes back. He'll put his big spoon in the pot! :D

I have no probs with the furby's.....I need something bigger for work, racing and towing so decision made for me

c5's errr i'm also involved in some fleet buying so get to hear about quality and similar issues so I know what you mean - but seem to recall them being well rated for towing though

There is a skoda Octavia owner on there as well. ( I can't join tis just for caravans :( )

But there this this one as well, has been usefull for info.
