Oh I cancelled the play order long ago.

Got this one from CCL Online, play might have come about the samee time as everyone I tried has been waiting for stock. The XP machines being even harder to get hold of. I figured as play were useless they didn't deserve my buisness :)

The one pictured has Windows XP, so unless Lummox has wiped Linux and installed XP it looks like its the A150BB model which is just shy of £300 Retail.

Sorry, forgot about that. :o Wonder how easy it is to get VAG-COM running on the Linux versions? I have read some stuff on the 'net about it but it's a bit beyond my level of I.T. skill to really understand how 'do-able' it is.

I like that. Shiny.

Quite tricky, I'd say, depending on how familiar with Linux you are:

Ross-Tech: VAG-COM: FAQ Page 1

People have done it with WINE.

I have to do with my 12" one :)

Nice one!

Bought a Eee 900 myself (with the 4/16Gb option and originally linux) and installed XP pro.

It is my VCDS (VAG-COM) tool. Also have a Asus M50 but this chap is too big to always carry with me. So I bought the Eee and now I always have the VCDS with me if I am in my car.

Also use it now and then to surf the net, but it is a little slow and the resolution is not what I am used to, to use when surfing (1024x600 instead of 1680x1050 or 1920 @ home).

It is a nice toy though :D

Would love to get me something like that if I ever have some spare cash. Wonder if it would end up an ornament like the PDA I got years ago that I paid £230 for though :D

Perhaps they have extended life batteries available? (no doubt at nearly the cost of the laptop itself).

I'm posting this on my dads Aspire One laptot. He's got the basic one running Linux and with only 8GB hard drive space, advantage is as it's the Linux version it comes with Firefox as standard

Quite impressed with it so far, especially as my laptop is currently sick and awaiting spare parts that will hopefully get it back up to full health.

They are small though. Here is is sitting on my normal laptop for comparison

The black thing is a computer mouse, and my N95 phone is on the other side!

Hope it lasts longer than my last 2 Acers - got an HP one this time

Been thinking about the 8GB SSD linux one myself, any ideas of what the battery run time is like on these? I've heard that the SSD is not as good on battery life as regular laptop drives are.

VAG-COM on linux (using WINE) doesn't seem too bad. If I have time during the week I'll have a play around and see what happens.

It looks sweet. I'm more than happy with my Acer so far

SWMBO would love one of these....

She can wait. She can have the laptop that's about to explode.

I would be very interested to hear how you get on.

They are great these little tiny baby laptops. I wouldn't be comfortable with anything below a 9"screen though. I've had an Asus EeePc 701, and it was torture looking at the tiny screen. I sold it and bought the Eee900 which I get a lot more use out of. the Eee901 and Eee1000 are even better!

It's good to see that other manufacturers are following suit with better products, and it all serves to drive the price down for these tiny laptots.

I remember back in '99 when I worked at the UK office of a Jap firm.

They brought over these tiny Sony's that made the the laptops look massive, and weighed about as much as a (then) keyboard and lasted an impressive hour on battery!.

Only taken 9 years to get over here.
