1.9 tdi Mpg?

Featured Replies

How much do some of you guys average mpg on the 1.9tdi? I only just get about 48 with a good mix of driving but most in the country andhardly ever putting the foot down.

63 mpg, computer figure.

1000Km on the clock (=new tight engine)

Driving 80-100 Km/h on small roads with little traffic, usuall distance approx. 25Km., outside temp in the teens celsius.

Over last 3000 miles my 1.9TDi's actual average is just under 53MPG (MaxiDot average = 55MPG) and I have a pretty heavy right foot.

This is mostly commuting, 60-70% on the motorways & Dual carrigeway A Roads the rest on winding country B roads.

My car is well run in (59000 miles) and the best I have seen recently is 62 MPG (on MaxiDOT) which I managed on a long motorway run.

Around 51mpg. Mix of town (slow 8 mile commute) and motorway at weekends. 550 miles from £60 worth of diesel, so still not bad at 11p per mile, which is only 1p more per mile than my Octavia was 4 years ago.

DSG 41-44 MPG around town.

1.9Tdi 4x4 has only 760 miles on the clock. On a reasonable run, mixture of motorway and slowish A roads, got maxidot figure to 48.

(edit) Ignoe figure below, that was first tankful!!

My 1.9TDi has 28,000 miles on the clock - averages 51mpg brim to brim or 54mpg on the computer.

I can't understand why mine is so economical... at 63 mpg

It reads approx. 4.5 litres/100Km by the time I get home from work, today was 4.2, which was lower than normal.

I think I have my calculations correct, hmmm.

I've checked your maths and 4.5 l/100km is 62.7mpg, and 4.2 is 67mpg.

Those figures seem remarkably good. I have an Octy II estate now at 2700miles, and it has never been as good as that. I think I am doing well when I get 56mpg on a motorway run. Maybe if I could do a run at a constant 50-60mph without town driving at both ends, and with few hills I might get over 60mpg. Perhaps that is the difference.

I think you're righht.

My commute is fairly flat and I only need to use the brakes when I pull into the car park at the other end.

One of the few joys of less than 20 people per square Km :)

Around 7000 miles on the clock and seeing around 50mpg based on re-fuelling data. Significant amounts of reasonably heavy motorway driving and a proportion of very hilly commute mileage.

Have you tried calculating based on the amount of miles from fill-up to fill-up? The on-board computer can be fairly optimistic.

The few times I've had well over 60 indicated is when doing 50-60mph journeys, eg Glasgow to Edinburgh or Leeds to Hull and am sure I got pretty close to 70mpg indicated on the latter.

Generally evens itself out though as soon as you overtake something on a country road.....

Average from the trip computer is 52 -53 MPG.

60 mile motorway run cruising at 60 mph just over 70 mpg consistently.

Most motorway runs not exceeding 70 mph between 60 and 65 mpg.

Car is over four years old with some 55,000 miles on the clock.

51,000 miles, Derv Doctor Phase 1 Remap - Computer says YESSSS!! consistently around 65mpg. Travelled from South Gloucs to Notts on Sunday - 125 miles/2 hours (A417/M5/M42 60/50 mph restriction in places/M1) .... 70 mpg on computer! I have on one occasion travelled 150 miles from Notts to deepest rural Suffolk, 150 miles in 3hours and returned 71 mpg.

I realise that the computer may be a bit optimistic but I'll settle for that!

Octavia 1.9tdi Elegance. 54 plate Registered Feb 05. Mileage 23400. Over the last three fill ups (£50 each time) I've had 53.4mpg, 56.6mpg and 51.9mpg (that's according to the computer) and I'm not totally convinced how accurate it is? My average weekly commute consists of 40 miles each day, uphill and down dale (Huddersfield to Bingley) on mainly A and B roads. Trip to York last month (motorway and then dual carriage way) got over 60mpg. Overall reasonably happy with return.

2007 1.9 PDI 105 HP saloon. 20,000 miles; 53 MPG overall (ie over 20K) & I'm now averaging about 56 MPG - 70% country, 30% town driving with very little motorway use. These are actual (fill up to fill up) values and are about 5% less that those indicated on the car's computer. I rarely "boot" the car due to the cost of diesel.

Regards

In the summer thats just gone (did anyone notice it?) i was getting on one journey with nearly no throttle 69.5mpg instant reading but actual was 59.2mpg.

Recently around town all night iam getting an instant of 53.1mpg and an actual of 49.5mpg and i don,t hang around ;)

My 1.9Tdi has averaged 51.7mpg over 76K miles( brim to brim method on every tankful!). It's averaged 53.5 since June. I do about 70% motorway (78mph on cruise), 20% A-roads, 10% town.

The best consumption is when the traffic on the motoway is so heavy you can only do 50-60mph, the trip computer can be showing low 60'smpg average - which will be high 50's real.

The lowest on one tankfull (yes I know its unreliable on a single reading) is 46.9mpg. The best 56.5 (twice).

All the above are brim-brim method. My trip computer is 8% optimistic, so 54 trip display average is really 50mpg.

Please remember you can adjust the computer. I have adjusted mine at 8 % as I believe the computer is 8 % too optimistic. Now is should be 100 % precise (I still need to do my first fill-up, but I had some Seats before and they were 8 % optimistic).

Not quite sure what I'm doing wrong, average 43.8 on the clock, 48.7 today on a trip round the M25. Don't hang about but I don't 'plant' it.

Even a run to Germany across Belgium the other week was 43.7 though the sat nav was flashing red for much of the trip.

Is this easy to adjust, or is it CAG-COM (which i do not have...) ?

It is easy - with Vagcom ;)

Maybe you can find someone who can help you? A lot of people have Vagcom.

Alot of town driving and the odd motorway run saw me just getting over 37mpg on a brim to brim measurement.

My engine will be just run in at 120,000 lol.

Yet to do a long motorway commute as of yet.

I dont require a power boost but would a remap help the MPG????????? on mine

Yes a remap often does help MPG.
