Okay, I hope you make this out.

At the rear of the boot there are 3 or 4 carpet hold downs that are threaded.

Undo these and pull the carpet up. I used one of these for my earth. (far right one looking in the boot).

I used glass paper to get all the paint off it, put a washer then the earth cable (0) then another washer, then a bolt. A bit of Vaseline in between each part.

Got all the excess Vaseline off then used touch up paint to paint it all red.

lay the carpet back down and screw the carpet holder back on.

If you want a pic let me know.

The seatbelt mounts are also damn good earthing points. :) Both the ones for the reels, and the ones for the buckles.

i have 0awg in my octavia and have used the seat belt buckle bolts with no issues what so ever running over 2000w rms :)

that includes 4 10" alpine dual voice coil subs :D

thats where i got mine matev:orb_cool_ the seatbelts bolts are a fair size, but due to the coolness of my mates build i was seeing what other options we had... cheers for the other options tho, worht knowing for the future,

otherwise inside where the spare tyre is or the boot hook, all worthy of a look and places ive used on other cars too.

If you rummage around in the boot behind the carpet you'll probably find the OEM earth studs.

Sorry to sound somewhat rude here guys but using the seat belt point is both illegal and dumb. Don't do it.

In the Octy II there are dual factory earth points located underneath each rear tail light. I have 0-awg cable earthed to a spare threaded nut end that's located in the left side quarter panel, though you need to remove the trim to get there. However, it is more than likely that you'll be doing this in any case.

A bit of Vaseline in between each part.
So far as I am aware, vaseline is non-conductive. I wouldn't have thought this was a good idea.

You are right, but its only used as a protection against rust from each mating part. So not loads of it.

I was advised by an electrician to do so.

Vaseline will be fine, certainly better than nothing to prevent metal corrosion. The pressure put on by a self tapping screw,or bolt and nut will easily overcome the insulation properties of vaseline , also the amount of metal to metal contact between the lug, screw or bolt ,and car body is many times greater than the cross sectional area of the cable. If you dont believe me put some vaseline on your finger ,and then place your finger in a live 230 volt bayonet lamp socket!

I concur - my sub amp is earthed on the left hand side oem stud, just behind the carpet over the rear light cluster.

Not had any problems since install 2 years ago....:)

Any more info on precisely where this is - I'd like to check any earthing points in that area as I had a bottle of snowfoam leak in the rear side cubby...

there is an oem earth bolt at the bottom of the left side cavity. There is also places where the oem cd changer bolted into place

OK thanks - will go on a hunt (have found the two for the rear lights thus far and they seem OK...

i personaly would use a separate earth point to one which is already used, especially lights

  • 2 weeks later...

I have used the rear right hand side seat belt roll for my earth as its behind the carpet and it can't be seen...

I am also running a second battery in the boot all fed with yummy 0 gauge :)
