Possible fault with the door mech

Featured Replies

Noticed tonight that when I open my drivers door the puddle light doesn't turn on and neither does the interior light. The door pin LED does however stop blinking. As a result the car doesn't realise that the drivers door has been opened and will try to lock itself if I don't turn the ignition on within 20-30seconds.

I can open the front passenger door and the puddle light and the interior light both come on, also when opening either rear door the door open light on the dash also come on so the car know's all bar the drivers door is open.

I've done a search and it looks like its a fault within the door locking mech.

Can anyone confirm this sounds right and if so do you have a part number for it.

Thanks

Matthew

Sounds right. The switch for the lights etc is built into the lock mechanism.

Does anyone have the part number for the Drivers Side door latch mechanism?

I started to strip my door down today to get the part number off but didn't get enough time to complete it.

I've just discovered I have the exact same problem. The car doesn't register that the drivers door is open, but recognises all other doors.

Did you ever get this fixed mate?

Sounds like it could be a bit of a job, if the sensor is in the lock mechanism. How much is a new thingy?!

I'm clueless on door locks....

No, I havent sorted it out yet. I'm off to the dealers tomorrow but have a feeling it's going to be quite expensive. I'm also going to try some scrap yards but would like the part number to make sure the right bit is ordered.

Matt i will post the part tomorrow as i have a new one to fit on my car (part is sat in my garage),i can't tell you cost as i purchased it with some other parts.

I would guess about £70-80.

Ouch! That's kinda pricey

Isn't this the case of a possible dry joints on one of the microswitches within the lock unit?

apparently the plunger on the microswitch wears away over time, and eventually no longer makes contact with whatever pushes it. Please correct me if im wrong though

It would appear that the only fixes are to replace the lock unit (containing the microswitch), or to buy a new microswitch from an electrical shop and solder it on in place of the original. Since I dont have a soldering iron, or the patience to fanny about with little switches, I expect I'll be buying a complete lock unit.

I've never taken the doors apart before, so this could be fun!!

If it's big bucks, I'm tempted to just live with the fact that the interior light wont come on automatically when I open my door. But being the OCD freak that I am, I expect I will eventually buy one....

Matt...priced a rear door mechanism a few weeks ago, and they were £96 + vat, but luckily managed to sort mine with copious amounts of WD40....might be worth a try ??

Hmm i wonder if you could crack it open and fit a new microswitch then put it back together?

Apparently you can, think there's a guide on that vortex site already mentioned, or a link to one anyway..

Part no.for my drivers door lock is 3B2837016T which is for car with remote central locking.

Usually either the micro-switch fails or the joints on the solder cracks.

VWvortex Forums: MKIV door locks explained - why you're having problems!!! :(

Above link will explain a little more.

Do you know if that's a Skoda dealer only part, or would GSF be able to get one aswell? Or maybe Skoda spares or whatever they're called.

Have you changed yours? Was it a nightmare of a job or OK?

If anyone has an old one i'm willing to have a go at it and send it back to you if it gets done if you pay parts and postage.

I hav't had time to fit mine yet,but i did take the door card off to see what sort of job it was.The most difficult part i think is getting the door barrel out as that needs to come off.

I will strip my old one to see what the problem is and fit that, and may sell it recoup some cost.

Ran a code scan this weekend to make sure everything was in order, and it was, apart from one code.

00928 (-155, KWP1281) - Locking module for central locking: front drivers side (F220)

I'm assuming this code is related to the 'door open' switch not working in the locking module? As that is my only symptom.

My central locking works fine, but I'm a bit paranoid about all the doors randomly unlocking themselves!

Can anyone confirm that you get this code when the switch has stopped working?

I soaked the lock with WD40 aswell, but to no avail, so it looks like i'll be buying a new lock when i get really annoyed with the fault this (dark) winter!

Cheers

would this be the same if my door was the other way round. ie. the car thinks my door is always open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess so! That must be kinda annoying for you!

Does the buzzer constantly sound if your driving at night!!!!

Guess your switch is bust too

OK, I've looked at the work involved, and weighed it up. I can't be harsed!

According to the maintenance manual, you have to remove the door trim, remove the door handle, remove the window regulator, slacken off the side impact bar, then finally remove the lock unit!

Sounds like a nightmare to me.

I don't think you have to do all of that.

Just take the door card off then you can get at the lock. You will need to undo a couple of bolts/screws on the side of the door then you can pop the lock out to be able to get the full unit out.

When i get time to do mine i will do a 'how to guide'.

I hope your right! Manuals do normally go a bit over the top with removing things, so it wouldn't surprise me.

I look forward to your guide..... good luck with it.
