The old Xbox360 Vs PS3

Featured Replies

Now these two consoles have been around for a while, which do people think is the best, or will improve the most? Is the PS3 now coming along and improving or will it never get close to the Xbox360?

I wouldn't mind one of them. but which one....

I shall be buying a PS3 in 10 days time when the 160gb version is out :)

There seems to be very little difference in the quality of games , with a few exclusives on either side that could possibly be a decision maker for you.

For me , the free online play and Blu-Ray drive on the PS3 makes it a no-brainer.

Well I'm biased to the Xbox as I'm now a pro on COD4 using the 360 pad.

Tried it on the PS3 and I throw grenades when I meant to shoot

I bought a games console for playing games. Not dvd's etc....

I believe also that the Xbox live servers are more maintained hence the fee and therefore being better than the free PS3.

Thats just my opinion, sure someone will beg to disagree

I have the 360 and will be sticking with it. You can now get a 360 for less than £100 and even if you include the fact you need to pay for online gaming, for the difference in price you get a lot of years. Most games are released on both formats with the odd one or two being console specific. Some of these titles are actually written on the 360 and then converted to work on the ps3.

I also prefer the 360 controller, and find the PS3 one very difficult to hold, whereas with the 360 controller everything falls into place.

Fair enough, their are now no HD drives for the 360, but if I wanted to watch HD films I would buy a dedictated player, and not a games console with a clunky interface. Remember the PS2, the dvd interface on that was so basic.

The 360 has better games, and massive backing from a huge company.

However, I will be getting a PS3... but only for Bluray, and two games - GT5 and Heavy Rain.

After being rather unimpressed with the PS2 I wasn't expecting the PS3 to be all that great either... but since I bought one in July I've not been off it and it compliments my Wii quite nicely even if it does look like a sandwich toaster.

I've now got it streaming music, tv and movies from my server and I'm quite impressed with DVD upscaling (not used my dvd player since) and bluray playback.

Upgrading the internal drive in the PS3 is dead easy as well.. :)

I'm still not overly keen on the PS3 pad and I think Sony could of done a much better job, but they are wireless and usb rechargeable as standard and without the (useless) rumble feature nice and light.

As opposed to the fly-by-night Sony??:P

Well, not quite... but MS don't have a monopoly for nothing ;)

I suppose the question for me is how noisy the PS3 is when playing films.

The 360 is a quite noisy when watching HD-DVD's which is what prompted me to buy a standalone player.

Xbox360.

Its cheaper, has a greater range of exclusive games, bigger back catalog(cheaper games) and is just as capable as a media centre as the ps3 is.

To be honest i too was a fan of the GT series, but to me that is the *only* thing that would warrant me buying a PS3 for.. and considering i didnt bother with a PS2, and the cost of the PS3... no thanks

Mine was before it died!

Got it back and it's so much quieter :D

I had a PS3 and Sold it as I just never really used it and at the time, the games support was not there.

I have a 360 and a Wii and they are a great combination, the 360 does a fine job of streaming all my media, Xvid / Divx since the console update from MS earlier in the year, and there is a healthy array of games on budget titles to suit the kids.

When you consider how long ago it was released, the 360 is an excellent console and the much newer PS3 does not really appear to move graphics etc on considering how much later it appeared.

The PS3's trump card is of course the Blue Ray player, but I bought a 360 HD player for peanuts off Ebay and have a great collection of HD movies now that I would class as "Keepers" from as little as £2.99.

The 360 controller feels nicer in the hand, and the 360 itself upscales content played through it.

The only thing I feel the PS3 has in it's favour is Blu-Ray, but give it 6 - 12 months and you will be able to pick a Blu-Ray player up for well under £50, and a new 360 can be had for around £100.

Apparently sales of the PS3 are not doing as well as Sony intended and thats why Sony keep needing to revise the console specs whilst at the same time removing lots of features. The recently delayed game that was supposed to save the PS3 console will only ad to Sonys woes.

The first PS3 had a memory card read and could play the back catalogue of PS2 games and a larger HD, the current console has neither a memory card slot or the ability to play older games and only recently got the original size drive back. Whilst this may have helped them reduce the price, they also reduced their market for console updaters.

The 360 on the other hand, has never had anything removed to keep costs down, infact the console keeps getting cheaper and even now with HDMI its still £200 cheaper than the PS3 and thats a lot of money in the current financial climate.

If I want a blu-ray player I'll buy a dedicated one that will most likely do a better job and sit more at home in an AV environment, especialy now they are cheaper than the PS3 which I am sure is now affecting the PS3 sales figures.

I have both (had the 360 for ages, my wife bought me the PS3 to watch Bluray on) and I have to say if I am going to buy a new game now I try to get it on the PS3. I won't pay more for it, or go without though if it is only in stock for the 360.

Both systems have pro's and cons. You will find lots and lots more 360 games going used for less than you see PS3 games going for, however that situation is slowly changing and i don't know how much longer it will last. The 360 is also cheaper however you need to spend money to bring it up to spec, for instance the Wireless adapter is £60.

If it were my money now, and i was only buying one, much as it pains me to say as a 360 fanboy, I would buy a PS3. It is not the best yet, but it will be soon.

@ Hedge, the PS3 is silent.

They don't have a monopoly at all.

As I recall , the Wii is currently outselling the competition

And the console now has hdmi and a 60gig drive as standard* :) (except the arcade model) - and apparently MS are thinking of canning that one because the new dashboard re-vamp needs a hard drive.

I think PS3 sales will now fall, not because the console is a bad one. As mentioned it has some good points,

but

because dedicated blu-ray players are now cheaper than the console, those who would have bought the console to just play films on, no longer need to and can buy a player cheaper.

I was referring to the world out side games consoles...

And yes, the Wii has, is, and will outsell both the Xbox and the PS3.

I don't know of anyone that bought one just as a blu-ray player - for most people it was either an equal split between films and games or just an added bonus when they got a games console.

That's right they used illegal practises and refused to supply anybody who sold software from anybody but them.

I assure you MS don't have today's Monopoly based purely on the quality of their product. If they did Vista wouldn't have made it out the door in the state it did.

I dont understand the wii.. its kinda ensured success on its novelty factor... i have a wii and dont play it!.. it got used (again) by the whole family for about 2 weeks after we got a wii fit and its not been on since... not when theres an eggbox in the same cabinet anyway lol

M$ work on the quantity not quality principal don't they? :P

But of course, that's why my PS3 failed after 2 weeks, and my 360 has been in almost daily use for 18 months without a glitch :)

I think Cheezemonkhai must have been violated in a nasty way by Bill and several of his band of merry men :)
