Is there an OEM "add on" to electronically heat the cabin air before the vents?

The title says it all :)

You mean like a Webasto or an Eberspächer heater?

just be a man :D grin and bear it lol

Exactly that kind of thing - I was thinking something as simple as some "toaster" style heating elements in the air flow before or after the fan. Whether or not that would work I don't know, was just wondering if there's something made my VW that's available :)

Pre-heater? They are around. Involves hooking your car up to the mains about 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled departure. I would sooner just bear with it until it warms up (gloves, hat, window down to prevent misting up)

If you have a garage I suppose you could hook up a convection type heater on the back seat for a little while. Bit of a waste of electric in my opinion though.

I need one too. Not for me, For my windscreen.

Can you get an electric heated one?

:D I don't mind the cold. In fact I wore a short sleeved tshirt to work this morning despite it being -0.5c ;)

It's the demisting of the windows that fecks me off.

get some heated seats in there ;)

.... wait - i already do ;)

I'm not necessarily thinking pre-heater here by the way, more something that will mean near-instant warm-ish air coming through the vents to assist in windscreen demisting... it could only run when the engine is running!

What if you buy a fairly large peltier, mount a suitable CPU cooler on it and fit it inside one of the ducts. Then have the cold side of the peltier with another set of fins and some kind of drainage for the condensation?

Or is that a long way for a shortcut?

Way back in the 60s my bosses had minis. Ice would form inside the windows, so, an hour before going home time, it was my job to fill a 5 gallon jerrycan with boiling water and put it on the passenger seat. Warm car and heated seat for someone whilst I slithered home on an ancient Tiger Cub. Ah the good old days.

Some of the Peugeots have electric air heaters to clear the screen fast. I think the 406 has them?? Not sure what they look like or where they fit, but sound like what you are after. They warm up the air to demist the screen, until the water system gets up to temperature. I might need some myself, as my fabias keep steaming up ion the cold weather, and are no better with the air con on!

I don't think the aircon activates if the temperature is under 10oC.

My dad uses a little 12v heater he bought in woolworths for a fiver...cheap fix which isn't ideal (being of a function-over-form mindset, he taped it to the dash of his polo!) but hey it works...it's pointed at the screen, plug it in 5 mins before you go and bob's your uncle...or your aunt in this day and age...

The reason he's done this is because I stole the garage for my Fabia...so it would stop misting up! I'm sure he'll forgive me one day...

Hi Ed

I know this not what you are asking But !

We have had the same problem with our 1.4 TDi and I have just removed the Pollen filter, and not had a problem with the windscreen misting up since.

Have you tried removing it or a new one ?

Radiotwo

Removing pollen filter does make a bit of difference to our 1.4TDI, but it can still throw a lot of water on the screen soon after moving off. Unfortunately this happens at night coming home from work, so no pre-heater would help. I think the plug in types look like the best answer. I wonder if one could be fitted to blow into the pollen filter chamber and so be out of sight? Hmmm.

How do heated seats demist the screen?

Buy a Ford Focus with heated seats and quick clear windscreen.

I may go for a quickclear equivalent screen to replace the cracked windscreen on the estate, if it is doable and on the insurance for the most at least :)

I remember my uncle had an old Rover Vitesse and that had auxilary heating so you got instant heat out of the vents. Maybe try a scrappers and see how it works and try and "bodge" it into yours?

How do heated seats demist the screen?

They don't but they keep your bum nice and warm while you wait for it to demist! :P

They have been a god send to me many a time... just wish that after the sun (when we rarely get it) has been shining on them that they cooled too! lol

How non hetro is this thread ? :D

You could park your car in a heated garage at night, no snow, ice to worry about.
