Redundancy ( anyone else ? )

Sorry to hear about this :(

It's not fair really, because I almost want to be made redundant as it would solve a few problems for me! With being at uni now I don't have time to work as well, but I can't just give up my job in the current situation, so if they gave it up for me it would make the decision for me! Currently looking for something half decent part time.

It's ridiculous, I work for a Financial Services and it's perfectly stable lol. What are the chances?

But if you're made redundant Loz, then how will you pay your bills?

Trust me, it isnt a nice thing to go through. My sister was made redundant today, and as she's specialist (family law) the options are limited as people decide not to seek custody or divorces.

I was made redundant (well, they called it early retirement / voluntary severance  ) in November 2006, next job in December 2007 and latest in September 2008. It doesn't get easier, just less of an embaressment, particularly this time around as everyone now says "Ah well, it's the economy, it'll get worse" and offer sympathies.

I don't know what your chosen field is, but don't hold your breath looking for a job in the Cotswold area. Unless that is you want to be a supply teacher, hotel worker or Carer, or have some very specialised, esoteric skill that they are crying out for.

If it's any help, this might come in useful:

I have money in the bank I would cope. I would also get something part time. Thing is I can't bring myself to quit my job for fear of getting a really rubbish job and then after uni wishing I had kept my old one if you get me. So them making me redundant would solve the issue and I wouldn't have it as a regret. Obviously, the hope is that when I have a degree I get a much better job, but depending how things go...well, you just don't know.

Hi Guys and Girls

Good news on the job front,I have now joined the ever shrinking ranks of the employed ( temp ) so check me out at TTS Roadsport

To all that are still unemployed or in fear for their jobs my advise would be,do not give up and keep looking as there is a bigger and better job out there for you all.

We got the big meeting in 11 hours :( managememt have already been told that only a quarter of their positions will be there and they will all have to be interviewed for them (unless they want to take redundancy). sub contractors have had their monies lowered and we are waiting to see what is happening to the different sections, especially knowing our section is already undermanned.

All this redundancy makes me very worried for when I finish my degree next summer, will there be any work out there for all the people coming out of uni, or will there just be longer lines at the job centre?

Hopefully I'm in a bit of a better situation as being a mature student (i'm not that old though... Not really grwon up either) i have previous working history before uni, so I may have a better chance... I hope!

I was made redundant back in Feb this year, before the 5h!t hit the economic fan.

It's a very worrying situation to be in (especially when swmbo was expecting our first child!), but thankfully I found a job within a month.

We have been assured that no jobs will be lost, but we have seen a decline in work over the last month or so (mainly automotive customers).

A few friends who work for automotive suppliers (manufacturing) have been made redundant or are working 4 day weeks now.
