What is the life of the K03s turbo???

Featured Replies

evening all,

just a random question but what is the expected life of the K03s turbo? what sort of milage should we look at gettin from them?

what are the symptoms of one going?

who is on there second + turbo?

cheers guys.

I have doene 54K and still ok i think also been remapped for 30k.

The engine i put in my mk2 gti was a AUM remapped to 230bhp and that was on 126k miles and still went fine. Failed in the end due to oil pump failure.

There are so many variables that it's difficult to answer.

My car has 104k. Car did 80k in first 4 years so I guess it was sat on the motorway for most of it's life. Had it remapped at about 101k and the Revo technician said it pulled really well given the mileage so I reckon it's pretty healthy still

how long is a piece of string really repends on its load and how well its been looked after and if you've ever run low on oil too.

easy way to check is to take of the intake pipe and check for play in the shaft

Mine seems to be ok (touch wood) and has now clocked 104k miles.

Ran 188bhp at a rolling road day in October (at 9.9 psi boost) so must be in good condition

you'll always get play in a K03's due to it not having a ball beaing :)

yes a little but not loads :)

mmm interestin guys

cheers,

keep the figures commin though, seems like the K03s is not that badder turbo, just not powerfull enough

Max I ever ran in my old Octy vRS with a KO3s and other mods, was 238 bhp, and it would hit 230bhp on several other different sets of rollers so I knew it was accurate, but after 240 ish BHP the KO3s does run out of breath, so dont believe all you hear about figures above that.

I am goin to go for the Vsport custom job i think so hope to get 225ish and plenty of torque, only thing is I want it to be smooth as the std map just more power as all the maps Ive had have been good when bootin it but juddery under normal accel.

I started this thread as I was wondersin if my turbo could be on its way as it is on and off boost all the time .

Accel at mid throttle she is ok for a sec then its like the boost goes off then it comes on again for a sec then goes off for a sec then on all the time till i ease off or floor it??????/

Maybe the wastegate or actuator is playing up?

Has it been rolling roaded recently with a boost plot you could post?

nope soz, it has only done it since i put the recent map on it. its got worse i think but at first it felt like the power was progressive?

like same accel position, but accel at nice speed then it would jump to another level then again???//?

tis wierd

So its surging? What map have you currently got?

CCCtech. is the guy who did it and iirc he used Upsolute maps.

sounds like the n75 valve to me. had exactly the same symtoms you are experiencing, changed the n75 and problem cured, although my car was completely standard. the n75 receives a signal from the ecu telling it to open or close, which adds or reduces pressure on the wastegate actuator, which results in more or less boost.

it sounds like since your re-map, the turbo is over boosting, so the n75 is killing boost briefly, repeating this cycle over and over again. a new n75 is around £40-£50 from stealers, but get your codes read first, as it could be something simple like a leak in one of your boost pipes?

Seems like N75... like Ben said! Vag-com it and see what pops up... Common on remapped cars for the N75 to not like it! look into getting the N75J model... some people say alot of good things about it...

Oh no, you have mentioned the magic word "Upsolute". They do maps for the vRS, yes. But its one of the worst, The shortest time one of their maps ran on a Briskodians vRS was less than 20 mins. He took the car back and had the map removed, the description of the symptoms were the same as yours. There are other members who have done the same over a longer period. Take it back and get a refund, then get a decent custom map and you will be fine.

This thread makes interesting reading

and its one of quiet a few that popup with the correct search criteria.

I have to agree with Mannyo,if you have tried a new n75 then i don't like to say it but my guess is the map. I have seen it before on two vrs's but with a map by a different company, .

mmmm it is better now with the std 74 but i still not sure that it is good for the car so i am takin it easy with her.

I have had that much trouble with remaps, cant even go get the car back to my std map as when the company (red dot) put it on the car drove to cardiff then wouldnt work again.

the map ha been on there for over a year now? dont think ill be able to get it changed plus he doesnt have the std map as i had the apr trial on there.

Yes but the standard map is readily available for your ecu, even i could get it and i ain't a tuner.

cheers for the link been ready and it sounds like mine is a tamer version and not quite as bad but it still does it slightly. the guy said he had asked for a tamed down version. it doesnt feel like it has too much boost as the APR one was harder and lasted longer.

vsport are no more and it is PDTuning now not sure what to do anymore.

the upsolute guy said it could of been the DV or the coil pacs, i have replaced the coils and the dv. tis better but not brill
