Launch Control

Featured Replies

Is there any Retro fit Launch Control available for the Fabia VRS ???

If so where from & how much ??

Launch control is for automatic gearboxes only, as far as I know. :)

Generally yes... or tiptronic or similar.

It would required a fair bit of work to allow the car to hold the clutch and also control the revs when the "launch control" is activated.

Just do it yourself... rev and then release the clutch... simple!

There used to be a company that did a full throttle gearchange kit that had a launch control type system built in. Can't remember what it was called.

isn't aftermarket launch control more of a 2nd, lower rev limit? you pretty much fully press the clutch, put it in gear, floor the throttle and the revs hover at whatever the limiter is set to. you can then dump the clutch and in theory pull away with optimal wheelspin & revs without having to think about throttle position

Correct but it's finding a company that does it for the Fabia VRS. Just tried that Racelogic but no joy.

Or a cheaper way to achieve this is that ESP / ASR button on your dash ;)

Why not just find / hire a piece of private land to practice on? Seriously. It'd be so much more rewarding, would allow you to make optimal starts under ALL road conditions, and would (with a bit of time for adjustment) be transferrable to other cars...

Why would you want it though ?

I had Launch/Anti Lag on my Impreza.

Great novilty factor, but not really of any great use !

Best thing to do me thinks !

My mate has launch control on his CTR, makes quite a difference plus its kinda needed with it being 350+ bhp

I'm struggling to think of a reason to have it on a Fabia. Just make better use of your feet! :D

Restating my point, though, I don't reckon it's anything a decent driver couldn't do intrinsically - and I'd like to see how it compensates for road conditions... :D

The other thing is that most if not all these systems work on petrols only..

Have you tried NASA?

10 9 8 7 6 5 4 we have ignition 3 2 1 Bang, we have DMF failure.

very true, but could that same decent driver repeat getting off the line over and over again without making a mistake? probably not, which is where launch control comes into play

have you tried a proper hard launch in your car with the traction control switched on :D

No, because 99.9% of my driving is done on the public highway, so it is NOT NEEDED!

We all need to pull out of say a junction a bit sharpish every now and then, but for that ESP / ASR is MORE than enough.

Anyone who feels they need to use launch control on the public highway is simply

a/ driving like a tw@

b/ driving over their capabilities

Launch control has its place - that is on the stages and track. (but not track days, as that isn't done from a standing start.)

I agree with ap0gee & Johnny50, better driving skill and car control is the way to go, not another electronic 'aid'.

Set off in 2nd ;)

.

Have you ever pulled out of a wet junction with ASR enabled? With your above comment I suspect not.

I always switch ASR off if i need to get out a junction sharpish !!

It gets a bit scary when the car loses all power !

In my Superb, on the rare occasion that the ASR does kick in the car only looses some power - just enough to stop the wheels spinning, just like giving it less beans would do.

I therefore leave it on all the time.

You cant defy physics - too much power going through the limited grip a tyre gives on a slippery surface = wheel spin the solution? much better tyres (as in non road legal race tyres), better traction by having 4WD or a LSD, or simply use less power.

As said above launch control is for petrols only... my suggestion is to learn to drive correctly and know the limits of your car - electronics are for gayers :D

quite. doesn't your car have ESP and TC and EBD and doesn't it electronically limit the torque in certain gears :P and doesn't learning to know the limits of your car when said car is a Fabia vRS involve a certain amount of sky ground sky ground ****, which might not be all that enjoyable :D

Er, no. All the rolled Fabias that turn up on ebay regularly will have hit something en route, so what all that has to do with clutch and throttle control from standstill is a little beyond me... Plus, most of them don't have ESP, EBD has nothing to do with grip under acceleration, and your post is the first I've heard of any torque limit in certain gears (how would the ECU in a manual even know???)
