What and how to MOD my FAB Vrs - Can you help!

Featured Replies

Hello everybody i need some help.

Ive had my Red Fabia Vrs for four months now and am ready to modify. I have also had the car chiped twice, first by BBRGTi ( Not Happy with it!) then a lot more successfully by Kim Collins! The car is now 158 BHP with over 300 pounds of torque. Is this the limit, can i do more without destroying the car or its drivebillity?

There are several things ive seen on peoples car which i like,

1. Alloys, the regular items are to small and strull to find enough traction especially with standard tyres. I fancy the Octavia ones but were can i get some from at a reasnoble price? I get bambuzeled by all the alloys and can't picture what they would look like.

2. When pushed hard the brakes suffer really bad fade i mean bad, whats the best solution are octy brakes much better.

3. Ive seen a car with a new twin pipe exaust, does this give a horrible boomy noise, better performace?

4. My old car was a Citroen Saxo VTS, i had it lowered on pi springs, on smooth surfaces it cornered well but in ruff roads the ride and handling really sufferd, is the set up thats on the new 158 bhp ibiza cupra avliable as i think these setting could be the right thing for my car? what made to go for and does it invalidate my skoda warranty.

5. Air filter, a fad or is there one thats really worth it for a derv machine.

6. Does a strutt brace help the car turn it and eliminate oversteer?

The car goes well and handles okay, but the brakes are bad and a Saxo VTS on the twistys will leave me in its make this need to change, the chasy feels like it has more to give. It needs sorting and quick.

I want to create a car which fills the visual gaps and makes it look like it should or easily could, handles a lot better but not to compromise everyday drivabillity. How did lotus make the elan S2 so supple yet handle so very well?

I need some Briskoda Knowllege.

Im looking to to this all for a max of

Right all your questions are quite easy to answer.

1. Im running 200 bhp and 340 lbft torque, perfectly driveable and no problems for 10k or so now. But not really advisable on the std turbo.

2. Octavia vRS alloys look smart on the Fabia but will require 205/40 tyres, theres usually a few sets in the for sale section. TT rims also look good ;)

3. The exhaust, did it look like this?

If so then its the Milltek exhaust, my car was the development one for this, adds a nice note but not boomy, also free's up the turbo nicely.

4. Skoda wouldnt approve the SEAT suspension so id say go for Eibach vRS springs.

5. Green panel air filter seems to work well, there is a group buy on here somewhere.

6. Strut brace is well worth the money, get one from SEAT for the 2002> Ibiza, fits straight on and gives the sterring a more precise feel.

7. Brakes are deffo a weak point, Octavia ones are a great mod check out this thread..

But these are better ;)

Have you hear anything about the MTM chip ive got is it a good one? car seems fairly quick! Can i do all this for

Basically exactly the same as Ross has already said.

1. Alloys. The choice is basically endless. The Octy wheels do look good, but why limit yourself when there are loads of styles to choose from out there.

2. I agree on the brakes too, though not done anything to mine yet. The Octy brake set-up is a huge improvement over standard, but if you can stretch to it, you can't beat the Brembo set-up.

3. Milltek make the twin pipe system that you are on about and it does look very good and sounds a bit better without being boomy. Blueflame are developing one with a slash cut oval tail pipe which I'm keeping my eye on at the minute. Shall let you know more when it happens.

4. Agree with Ross that the way to go is with Eibach vRS springs and if you can afford the extra, then a set of Koni or Eibach adjustable shocks too.

5. Green panel filter is great. Lets the engine breath better and gives a little more grunt.

6. Strut braces do make the car alot sharper on turn in and certainly improves the handling. I have a lower brace fitted as well as the upper and though it makes the ride a bit stiffer, it certainly handles alot better than it did before.

I'm also running a re-map on mine which is 183bhp and 309lb ft. Very driveable and given me no problems in 15,000 miles of driving. You do have to remember that whatever you do to the suspension/brakes, it is not a Saxo and never will be. It is a bigger car, so will not be as nimble as a Saxo, but will more than make up for it in power and in my opinion, looks.

hope this helps

Octy wheels are just fine. And yes they are genuine Audi Competition wheels. they were orginally polished but as they had started peeling i had them sprayed silver. All they needed were some 40 profile tyres and they fitted straight on no problems.

For sale section is here..
