Really? Like front and rear spoilers (the former a must have for traffic-calmed areas and the latter essential for closing the boot); vRS badges on front grille and gearknob (the latter so you know it is a vRS you are fondling and not an L&K); polished stainless steel foot pedals (so much more practical then 'normal' ones) but not a matching polished steering wheel; seats with metallic mesh effect cloth panels (with inbuilt stain retention ability); and of course that distinctive oval tailpipe (I wonder why jet engines don't have oval exhausts too?).
(I wonder why jet engines don't have oval exhausts too?).

And here was me thinking you were an aviation type, Denis. Cars don't use their exhaust gasses to provide thrust like a jet engine does, or do you have a flamer kit you're not telling us about? :D

Or essential for driving at high speed, as opposed to driving like you're in a funeral convoy ;)

Or simply to distinguish it from the other models in the range, which for the most part look like taxi's

So where would the airbag go on a "polished" steering wheel ?? ;)

seats with metallic mesh effect cloth panels (with inbuilt stain retention ability);

Not an issue, i look after my car :)

Says the man with the invisible shiny dump valve :D

Geoff,

He's just jealous thats all. He can't take the fact he's got a slower car in standard or chipped form (230bhp going on 195  ) nor does he understand what a spoiler is for or superior suspension, seats for that matter. I don't know these closet van drivers, tish. Just cos he's bought an inferior car for more money with useless extra's you use now and again unlike the vRS's unique features which are used all the time. ;)

Des...

I was trying to be (reasonably) tactful, but you said it so well :D

I'll buy you a drink next time we meet

Tact, not my strong point.

Tact, not my strong point.

Really?

I hadn't noticed :D

BTW, shouldn't the gutted in your sig be removed now.

;)

Jealous of vRS owners? Have you completely lost your marbles, Des?

Am i understanding this right?

Is this an argument between VRS and 4x4 Drivers here?

or one between VRS and VRS Rally drivers?

VRS and 4x4 drivers. I really started something with the 'arm rest' comment didn't I?! I would take issue with side air bags not being a useful item but other than that you pay your money and you takes your pick. As for the van/taxi comments, that's a plus in my book. Whether you want a car to be 'sporty' looking is up to the individual but I'd say its a damn site more fun wasting people come rain or shine in a normal looking Skoda.

email me details to [email protected] and we can talk then ;)

although i was gonna go to a dealer so I could get trade in on the impreza otherwise i've got all the hassle about insurance/mot etc etc etc and the practicalities of having BOTH cars at the same time.

I'd be quiet if i were you Col, your judgement with regards to all things car-related is highly dubious ;)

UHF - just picked up on this thread. My situation was:-

1. Subaru fan (6 of them), had Impreza Turbo with mild Tek2 remap. Engine blew.

2. Drove vRS and 4x4 twice as a big 4wd fan, intending to chip.

3. Bought 4x4 and Jabba'd

4. No regrets - I've really enjoyed this car over the last 18 months.

It comes down to how much you want 4wd. I do and am happy to 'live with' the differences against the vRS. I've no problem with the seats, suspension set-up or brakes - I like the comfort and the plain ruggedness of the car.

Ahh ya bleed'n tractor drivers are all the same.

Marbles, like I had any to lose in the first place. ;)

Like your new sig geoff :D .

Was following thred last night.

But kept right out the way. :)

Jonno(yellow streak down back.

I moved from a heavily tuned Scoob to a vRS,for the same reasons, insurance and running costs, wife kept hitting me,etc etc

you will not be disappointed, however, unless you upgrade the suspension on the 4x4 I do believe you will prefer the RS after a test drive, but as already stated, the 4x4 has a other advantages to the vRS,its what floats ya boat.Personally I like the sporty intentions of the RS to the rugged farmer feel in the 4x4,but i am slightly girly in that respect

there are several other threads here discussing the tuning abilities of both cars, but the 4x4 is supposedly limited to 195bhp having the older ko3 wheres the vRS has the never model, (nicknamed the ko3sport) which can go to 215.Obviously everyones siggies tell a different storey.

on balance,2 chipped cars will be close enough on the road for the driver to make all the difference

ps the brakes, even being one pot,are infinately better than the standard Subaru 2 pots

There is one report on Briskoda of a 4X4 (Ian's) having a different turbo to the vRS. I say again that ETKA lists the same turbo for post 2000 (ie DBW VVT) AUM, ARX and AUQ engines. Moreover Jabbasport lists the same power gains as being possible from their remapping of the 4X4 (ARX) and vRS (AUQ) engines, ie 218-230bhp.

Just to update people, if I buy a VRS I just know i'll turn it into a beast which will defeat the object of selling the scooby, so I'm going for a Mk5 Golf GT TDI, if anyone here knows how the hell you tell the model range apart please let me know. Do GT TDI's say GTI on the back or TDI???

You're going for a MK V Golf and not a Fabia vRS ? Sorry you really have lost it now ;)

This thread is currently teetering on the edge of being moved to Other Cars - VAG and nonVAG. :(
