Bonnet Vents

Featured Replies

Where can I get bonnet vents supplied/fitted, the ones im reffering to are the custom style ones where their stamped into the bonnet.

On cars that come with vents standard, where does the rainwater go, on the engine or are there ducts to channel the water away?

Cool Louvers do the vents that are stamped into the bonnet

Clicky

I have seen the work done by Cool Louvres and have been very impressed with the work. I believe they can even offer 'while-u-wait' stamping if you are lucky.

Just don't go for Escort Cossie style ones ;)

LOL certainly wont be going for cossie ones, although at the time I thought they were the bees knees.

Excellent !!

You too can have a bonnet that doubles up as a cheese grater !!! :D

And theres me thinking they were Barrie Boy face spot removing add-ons.....and now you say there supposed to be extra venting  .

I did wonder why there was no puss catching drip tray advertised with them

Go your own way. Bonnet vents needn't be chavy boy tastic. Pressed are way better than some sticky backed plastic shi-ite. You can channel the water away using ducting , dunno if the body shop guys will do this for you.

Talking of vents, I quite like the idea of the bumper mounted ones that sit where the intercooler is. Thoughts? Apart from the cheesegrater variety.

I take it you mean on the sides of the front bumpers? Like the old vectra gsi's? Ive certainly considered them. Although for the bonnet wouldnt use the original but find one from a scrapyard, vent it and then respray.

How about the escort cosworth stick on ones? LOL

No chav, 'cos I'd go for some like this too.....

Yes but only on the intercooler side.

On my previous car, an Impreza turbo which has the grills standard, the water didn't go anywhere as there were blanking plates underneath. Basically they are there for show - some people did take off the plates, but then the engine and wiring would get wet.

I always thought impreza turbos had functional vents. Suprising what you learn off here.

The scoopy thing on the bonnet is real as its the intake for the turbo cooler, however the grills either side weren't (well at least the were covered with plates) - hence they've gone entirely on the latest versions.

i remember the astra gsi had bonnet vents and they had trays underneath to channel any water away...

Hmmm kind of a Catch-22 here. You need something to catch the water, but that effectively blocks the vent. I guess the main aim would be to duct heat away from the turbo and exhaust, but if there's a plate underneath the vent I can see that airflow being severely restricted ...

Depends upon the objective - the vents of the scooby, astra GSI etc are there for the rallying/trackday crew who really do need them - they just unscrew the covers. If the objective is to remove heat, then this is one way to go, but the downside is the engine/wiring etc get covered in water when it rains. On the other hand, if its for cosmetic purposes only, then vents with the covers in place is the best option.

Personally, if were talking heat dissipation here, I would consider air intake temperatures, i.e. channeling air into the air box (assuming that this isn't done already via a port to the outside), or by have a front mounted oil cooler.
