Brake judder mk1 vRS

Featured Replies

Hi all and happy new year. My 2004 mk1 octy vRS developed a judder under braking earlier in the year. Most noticeable through the steering wheel. New front discs and pads seemed to sort it but a few weeks ago it came back, but this time more noticeable through the pedal. Car had mot and new rear dics and pads today but judder still there. Brake gently and no problem. Stomp on the brakes and very bad judder through the car, brake even harder and it smooths out a little.

I'm wondering bushes? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated chaps :)

Jim

I had this problem right before my bushes went. Had them done and the juddering stoped. No idea why tho.........

/Thicko mode: Which bushes?

I'm also wondering knackered shock absorber maybe?

Jim

Most likely to be wishbone bushes, i had the same problem replaced with new bushes and the juddering was gone.

Had a similar problem.

Warped brake discs, i replace them and it sorted the problem.

Easy on the braking for 600 miles or so when you get new brake dics.

Thankyou people. Next question is . . . . . . if i look at wishbone bushes ( rear i presume?) then what is the best option? I see some people go for poly and some mention TT ones as they are solid rubber and not voided like my vRS originals.

Price/part numbers gratefully received.

Forgot to mention originally i replaced front discs and problem remained. I assumed warped even tho newso changed again. This sorted in the short term but problem back now. Juddering originally coming up thru steering wheel but now more the whole car and pedal.

Thanks for chat and advice from Sarah/Sally? at Awesome. I have decided to get new slider kits fitted to both front calipers and new discs and pads fitted (again:doh:).

This could turn into a rather expensive 'process of elimination' type affair, fingers crossed i'll get their in the end.

Hi Jim

Dont worry , I have been called worse than Sally :D

If it does not work , give us a shout back and we will see what else we can think about :rubchin:

Had car in garage today. Calipers fine. Nearside front disc warped after runnout checked. New oe discs n pads fitted. All is well at the moment. All front bushes checked over while they were at it. Everything ok apparently.

That's the good news. Bad news is the wife smacked the furby up on friday. Looking like 2k to fix.

Oh joy!

Got this problem with mine - only a 1.6 not an RS. Best start with the discs? And maybe bushes? Im heading to the garage this weekend as its under warranty.

discs is always a safe bet

The myth of warped discs explained below, find a clear road, check mirror & do a few hard stops

StopTech : Balanced Brake Upgrades

JimF I think yours isnt discs as new ones would have solved this problem so DONT do the hard stops in case anything lets go

Very interesting Stuart. I will keep a close eye on things and run in gently. Had things checked whilst brakes were fitted so fingers crossed.

  • 1 month later...

Has your brake judder gone for good?

I had my front discs changed last month as had same problem, but over the last couple of days the judder is back with a vengance!

If anyone has any further thoughts, id be interested to hear them.

Cheers,

Dave

If disks don't cure it, consider bushes or shocks..... Changing my shocks seemed to fix my brake judder.
