Because it is with the same company!

Don't know whether to be pi$$ed off with Churchil or not - what do you think?

Got my renewal quote through - price up £120 on last year! which is a whacking 30%

Went onto gocompare.com and fed in all the details from the renewal

Churchill was 4th in the list by 4 or 5 quid behind companies I had never heard of who all wanted bigger excess so Churchill was the obvious best. Price was £100 cheaper than my renewal quote.

Phoned Churchill and after 10 minutes finally got to speak to someone

Explained the situation - she keyed my details into her computer and got exactly the same quote as I did - to the penny.

Result yes we will match the internet quote and also give you a further discount because you have 2 cars with us.

Result is I saved £135 on the renewal quote and got it £15 cheaper than last year.

Been with Churchill since Noah was a lad and they do this every year - and every year they match the internet quote - so why don't they save themselves and me some time and just give me the best quote first time?!?!:mad::mad:

I suppose all the companies are the same - they hope that we are all lazy so-and-so's who don't bother to check their renewal.

All insurance companies do the same, last year the CIS almost matched another quote I had for the wife's Fabia. When you phone your insurer and select the I am thinking of leaving option it really means what can we do to keep you.

Taking up an internet quote is classed as 'new business' so introductory bonii apply.

( Or so I was told by an insurancy type person )

Most of them do it.......:thumbdwn:

A little tip ....all the comparison sites don't cover all the companies.......Direct line and Privilege are NOT on any comparison site and very often will turn out cheaper than the rest ...I can vouch for both being very good when it comes to the crunch so to speak....they are worth trying

Privilege were on gocompare.com - about £2 more expensive than Churchill and the quote I would have taken if Churchill hadn't met the internet quote.

You need to think of it in a different way.

You haven't SAVED £135. What something is worth is what you can get it for. Direct Line, Churchill, CIS, etc all make a lot of money from renewals (especially the automatic type).

Get quotes online and call the cancellation department. They almost always match the best quote AND they mark you as being an 'insurance whore'. When it's time to renew again they don't try to rip you off so blatantly (they only raise by a small amount in the hope you wont care).

Kwik Fit are the same. I think most insurance companies work that way.

I paid £700 for the renewal price 2007-2008 and for 2008-2009 they wanted £740 until I got an online quote from their own website for £640

I did read though that everyones prices might be bumped this year due to the credit crunch.

Before the crunch all these court costs/claims could be absorbed by the interest they earn when the money is sat in a bank or something. But because they aren't getting that money they have to bump premiums.

My renewals due in a few months. If KF auto-renew I will give them a stern talking to as I dont use the credit card I paid with last time.

But remember any companies saying you have saved......no.

The only way to save is not spending the money in the first place.

I ditched Churchill this year after five or so years with them because they quoted me around £670 (?!?) for the Octy, and when I told them I was going to cancel they immediately found another £170 or so quid off whilst reminding me every few seconds how great they were. I eventually went with Chris Knott instead and saved myself about £260 in the process.

Been doing that for a few years -if they value "brand new customers only " so much ,then I'll move elswhere and be one ,and get the extra .you might also notice that the AA service is like that --special offers for those who haven't been members for a certain time ,then full whack ever after .

why is yours gone up though mate?

mine has done nothin but go down.

i have only once had to go online to get a better quote that was my 3rd year. rest were all not beetable. mind vauxhall are not the ones i am gonna go wi this time as on net they quoted 900 +

tis a case of shoppin around and not goin by the comparrison sited. use the individual ones as i think you get a better quote.

I'd be happy with that saving :D Just goes to show, shop around and challange your company to match any lower quote :P

I ditched elephant because they did this to me, and made it quite clear that this was my reason for leaving. Even allowed them to match my best price, which was significantly less than their renewal price and even less than their 'new' customer price. In the end bought my cheapest quote through quidco, so can expect a £50 refund in a few weeks

When I had my Fabia I once had the renewal come through £100 cheaper than any quote I got.. including online searches run against the same insurer.

They all do it, and we should be thankful for the rich/lazy/stupid * people that accept these renewals, and thereby help keep the price down for the rest of us.

* delete as appropriate

Every single year I change insurance companies because I get cheaper rates. The renewals I've had off some companies have been a joke.

Soo my insurance history:

20 yr old, Fiat Seicento 1.1 = £1175 @ Tesco (0 NCB)

21 yr old, Nissan Almera 1.4 = £800 @ Endsleigh (1 NCB)

22 yr old, Skoda Octavia 2.0 = £700 @ Somewhereelse (I forget) (2/3 NCB)

23/24 yr old, Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI FR = £500 @ RAC (3/4 NCB)

25 yr old, Seat Ibiza 1.9 TDI FR = £470 @ Swiftcover (With accident and 2 years NCB)

26 yr old, Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDI DSG = £500 ish (When I renew, 3 years NCB)

That Chris Knott is new to me (will bookmark for next year).

I've been with ilkeston Insurance for the past 4 years (and renewed last week).

The man there "Ian" has gone out of his way for the past 4 years to try and match - beat any quotes I've got from the net.

I did phone Brentacre insurance last week too and they'd heard of Briskoda too, and gave a great quote too (Ilkeston matched their quote as it was that good).

So - in general - you have to shop around. use the comparison sites, and also look at the others that are not listed. Even then - phone up the top 5, and bounce them off each other.

I've changed every year till I came across Ilkeston (in Evo mag) and they're nothing but simple, straightforward, honest !, and very easy to chat to.

I was everyone was as good as Ilkeston, and Brentacre.

This year is the first time I've bothered with this tactic - up until now I've just let things auto-renew, but with two car insurances, house insurance, bt quarterly bill and the heating and electric quarterly bill *all* due this month, I thought I'd look into things.

Result - Elephant changed 10 months cover to twelve months for £50 less. They would only do this to match Virgin's price, though. So it must be worth doing!

That Chris Knott is new to me (will bookmark for next year).

Remember to let them know you're from Briskoda - assuming nothing major changes between now and then, they'll sort a discount for you.

I ditched elephant because they did this to me, and made it quite clear that this was my reason for leaving.

Unfortunately they won't care. Won't make any difference. This approach helps loads of companies rake in lots of money, I doubt they'll give up anytime soon when so many people can't be bothered to shop around and will just pay up any price their current insurer gives them.

My insurance is due for renewal, will have to get a proper list out of mods, gonna be fun to see the quote as some gear has come off, some new has gone on.

The thing is when you ring and argue they claim you're still saving money even though your policy premium has gone up!

How does that work? I have no idea. If its a fault claim yes I understand then my policy will shoot up.

Of course the wise ones here will shop around for better deals.

The all pull this scam.

Some people just cant be bothered with the hastle, or always get some friendly lady in the call centre that speaks english and thats enough for them.

The answer to your question is in the 1st column of your table :)

I am more than twice your age with full no claims, had continuous car insurance for 35years. There are no more age/experience related drops for me to get so it just creeps up year on year by inflation. The final figure for my Octy II 1.9TDi Elegance is £240 with NCB protection and legal protection.

Compare my first premium with yours:

1974 (20yrs old) - Morris 1100 - £29 per year for 3rd party fire and theft - couldn't afford fully comp :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Typo!

Got the same thing with Esure. Got a cheaper quote via one of the super market sites. I just quote them the ref for the cheaper one and they gave me it no problems.

It's not something that bothers me. I expect them to have a go at putting up the premium but I'll always spend an hour checking if I can get it cheaper.

I can't understand the people who can't be bothered and accept the first quote they get.

Because it is with the same company!

.......

I suppose all the companies are the same - they hope that we are all lazy so-and-so's who don't bother to check their renewal.

Mines up for renewal on 1st Feb. Norwich Union renewal - £458, NU quote £326.

Now let me think about that for a moment....
