Don't know about sun strips, but I hope you will not mind if I ask you a question. Why an automatic? I have driven a few automatic hire cars, and I must say I didn't really like it. It is also quite an expensive option. You could prob get the next spec up or a better engine for the price of the automatic option?

Health reasons

William, an automatic makes driving in stop-start traffic - eg on the A1/M25 in rush hour and in London - an absolute doddle. When the DSG becomes available for the new Octavia, the best of both current gearbox options will be available in one package.

Hi auto, welcome to the site  . think you'll enjoy it. there all barking on here. i've only been on for a couple of months now, and have picked up loads of useful info.

There's some great characters on here :D . but i'll let you make you're own mind up.

Thanks jonno it all looks good to me,plenty of posts etc like your car is that sunstrip on top of your screen standard? I want a shaded one rather than a solid for new car I,m picking up tomorrow . I was a car valeter for 20 odd years used every type of polish, all making great promises. Is this swissol stuff as good as they say? thanks automatic

I'm between cars at the moment - my Vectra died and has just made its last journey to the scrapyard (sob  ) and I'm not yet in a position to order a nice black Octavia VRS. In the meantime I'm running about in a 998cc Nissan Micra CVT. It's an absolute hoot to drive about town - stick it in drive and floor it. You can surprise a lot of people :D

:revs: I had a Focus Automatic out for a week while my vRS Octy was in getting its water pump and thermostat fixed. I hated it, but it is handy in stop start traffic. Interestingly enough, my average mpg figure in the Octy vRS was 37-ish while the Focus returned just 30!

...Might have had something to do with the fact that I was trying to drive it like a vRS though...... :revs:

welcome to the sight!!

Nothing wrong with auto's. I sometimes wish I opted for one I hate the stop start pace in London, doesn't do the old joints anygood

Hi auto, yes the sun strip came as standard, and i think it is shaded, i'm trying to think but i'm not sure now  . I'll have a look when it's light in the morning :)

Jonno(bit barking at the mo, had a good day) :D

Welcome to Briskoda, automatic

@William - modern autos are much better than they were. There isn't much loss in performance, and the fuel consumption is only a bit higher (unless you have a heavy right foot, like me  ). As Denis says, stop/start driving is a doddle, and it's one less thing to think about when negotiating hazards like roundabouts - so I can concentrate more on driving safely.

I'm going to have a real problem when it's time to get a new car; another auto or a vRS? Auto or vRS? vRS or auto? Auto.. vRS? :help:

They do quite respectable 0-60 times as well, don't they, Mike! ;)

Edit - spot the auto below:

Hi everyone picked up new car yesterday love the colour (graphite) got the se with air con and alloys.I got 42mpg out of my last fabia auto, can live with that. New one has trip computer will have fun with that, what a great car these are (but dont tell anyone or they,ll all want one!) cheers automatic.

My sunstrip was attained the hard way - have a Fabia without one - write if off spectacularly, get another one that comes with one!

Not the way I intended to do it, but sometimes the sunstrip comes in damn handy for removing the harshness of the low sun in evenings/mornings. :D

I too have a graphite fabia (combi) and it's a 1.2 manual. I have driven some big American autos....engine and square footage! I was working in Oregon last year and had a few hire/company cars. As I have a wife and 2 kids I was furnished with a 'full' size car. You all know the type, 3 weeks to turn a corner and 10 days for the suspension to calm down .... but at only $1.57 per GALLON!! I wasn't to fazed at the fuel consumption. I had a 3.8 ltr Chevy Impala with high 20's returned, considering it had 19 inch wheels as standard!!! and weighed as much as a small tank.....I enjoyed 'cruizin' the highways without having to waggle the old pudding stirrer.
