Buying Tyres off the Internet

Featured Replies

I have never done it before, but I am very tempted to by some Toyo's from Camskill which are on special offer ATM, £55 each or £115 a pair delivered. See www.camskill.co.uk I know I can get Goodyear F1's @ £73 and Toyo T1-R @ £77 fitted & balanced in two places in Middlesbrough.

Does anyone have any experience of buying tyres from Camskill or other internet sites, good or bad.

They seem to be okay, I've only dealt with "mytyres" and they were excellant. Just one thing, remember to check that what you want is what you need for your car as most internet tyre sales places expect their customers to know what they are ordering.Conversaly make sure that what arrives is what you ordered. My daughter's boyfriend ended up getting tyres for a Civic Coupe instead of the ones for a Civic Type R - seems the coupe ones needed to have stiffer side walls and the next weight rating up from what he needed - this apparently made the car handle "not so well" - it was a pity that they ended up on the car before he noticed his internet suppliers error. This possible problem seems to affect Toyo and Bridgestones more than most due to their vast ranges.

you will have no problems with Camskill , a few on here have used them before

i have also used MyTyres before , without any issues

buying tyres off the tinternet is ok if you have somewhere willing to fit them for you

My last 2 came from blackcircles.com... no troubles at all, local garage were spot on with fitting :)

I have used camskill and mytyres and the service has been spot on with both companies. Camskill were the cheapest for the last two orders I made.

I have bought tyres from ebay a few times from the seller mailordermotorsport and have had no problems, fast delivery and good prices :D

All my last tyres came from Camskill. Ordered 4 and they delivered 4 on two separate days. :D Bonus.

I got my current Avon ZZ3's of Camskill

Excellent price and service

Positive feedback from me for both Camskill and mytyres

I've used Camskill for all my tyres:thumbup:

But dont they do free Next Day delivery?? Which would make your pair of tyres £5 more than they should be?? £55 for one tyre, £115 for two?? with free delivery???

Ian:)

Black Circle used many times. Good, no extras and all fitting at local centre covered in price. Will use again.

I've bought bike tyres online with no problems , never car ones though.

The only extra I'd add to what's already been said is to phone a couple of local tyre places and check that they will be happy to fit them for you and get a price off them as well.

You may find some garages refuse if they haven't supplied them , and others may offer you just as good a deal to supply and fit.

Pound notes usually help! Especially if the boss isnt around ;)

I bought from mytyres a while back.

They sent four tyres in two bundles of two. And, of course, one bundle went missing.

It was a pretty unusual size, too, so not as if a van driver would have had any use for them...

It took a long time for them to sort this out. I had to get the credit card company involved.

Have priced tyres on the internet and compared to local tyre suppliers.

It seems my local tyre men can beat any offer from the internet.

If the internet is cheap, by the time you add carriage, or pay a garage to fit them, your back up to a local tyre supplier.

I have pit two tyre suppliers against each other, they say they will beat any garage in price within 10 miles etc and I quote one against the other.

In the past I have had a pair of Continental 2 tyres about £160.00 (for a pair ) against a pair of cheap ones £73.00, that are within vehicle specifications, and demands.

Both the expensive and cheap tyres only lasted 15000 miles on the front, with no loss of grip, I add, when compared to each other, so why pay more.

The rear tyres have covered some 38,500 miles since car was new, with 4m/m tread still left.

I think if I had a high performance or maybe a high powered salon, then the speeds achieved would demand higher spec tyres/ which would attract higher costs.

It's just a matter of safety, ego and price on which you decide to use.

I haven't found an internet supplier who can beat my local tyres stores on price either. It is worth checking out prices locally.

I realise all prices would be higher now in 2009. Eighteen months ago, via the Internet from 'Tyre Shopper' I brought 4 Michelin Energy tyres for £184 balanced and fitted. They arranged the fitting to be done at my local National Tyres Depot included in the price. I priced up the same deal in this Stockist ,and another very well known one ,and was very pleased that I had saved over £50! .

It seems my local tyre men can beat any offer from the internet.

Same here. He beats them by a mile, what's more, and his prices include fitting.

I have 205/45R16 Pirelli P-Zero Neros. My local guy (St James Tyres in Birkenhead) does me them for £70 each including fitting. Once all delivery and fitting costs are taken into account, the cheapest I can find online is £81.61. Quite a difference.

Also, you have the satistfaction that you're helping a small, independent business to keep going during a time when many are folding. I'd rather give my money to somebody who will give me a smile and have a chinwag with me while he fits my tyres.

Thank you guys for all the possessive responses, this makes me even more tempted to buy online.:) At the moment Camskill are still the cheepest for perchacing Toyos and I can get a local tyre fitter in my town to fit them for £10 each. I must admit I only rang 2 places, but these were the cheepest 2 last year when perchacing a Goodyear F1. Suprisingly one firm is selling the Goodyears at £73 and Toyos at £85.

Camskills offer is 1 @ 55.49 + 6.50 p+p = £61.99 or 2x55.49 + 4.90 p+p = £115.88.

Jason, what do you mean by Camskill delivering them on seperate days? Did they give you 8 tyres by mistake i.e. 4 each time?

I'd agree that usually you can force your local independant tyre place to match internet prices. They tend to buy most of their tyres on the open market so are not tied down to manufacturers current prices. Fortunately for me, we are now Costco card holders - so it Michelins on all cars at unbeatable prices in our circle of friends and family. Of course, if you want a laugh, you could always print out the internet price including fitting etc, and take it to your local KwikFit place - they tend to match prices. I fell foul of the "could you fit a couple of tyres for me?" - I asked at my local independant tyre place and got a price, I was up front about it (sort of) and said "could you give me a price for fitting a couple of tyre I have" - when I went in a few weeks later I got a slightly different reception - but surely getting a small bit of my business was better than getting none, although I do agree that its good to support your local businesses as long as they play fair - this business does tend to compete/not compete with petrol prices, so loses a lot of my fuel trade!

Toyos do seem to be a popular choice with independant tyre places.

I've bought from camskill... another thumbs up here, great service :)

I've used Blackcircles. Delivery was very fast and staff were helpful. Prices were good too.

Ive used blackcircles and had no problems at all.

Good service cheap tyres and il use them again:thumbup:

I have a trade account with yourtyres.co.uk (trade side of mytyres!) and even at trade price I was only £1 more expensive per tyre getting my Falkens from my local supplier!

£64ea fitted from local place - or £53ea from supplier + £10 per tyre fitting! Not worth it for waiting a few days, plus this and that isnt worht £1 of my time!
