Buying Tyres off the Internet

Featured Replies

My local tyre fitter in my town did say he can get me some Khomos fitted for £66 each. He did not say which model they were, hopefully they are the KU31s.

Hay, the last time I bought a pair of tyres was for my previous car and I got 2 for £50. Does anyone know where I can get Toyos cheaply around Middlesbrough/Teesside area?

Just an update. I finally decided to buy Toyos from Camskill and now I can personally recommend them to myself. I ordered them yesterday lunch time and received them this afternoon at 4:30 despite the white stuff. It was quick and easy to order, no messing about with Paypall or Mastercard Securecode etc, they email me with the recipt, then a link to the carriers website. That reminds me, I will have to retry wiperblades.co.uk again as I ordered some at Christmas and nothing happened.

So next is Brakes. Do you think I should replace my front discs when I change the pads? I have done 55K miles.

I have just bought and had fitted 2 Michelin Piolt Primacy HP tyres for my Octavia.

I bought these from Tyre shopper on the internet which included in the price fitting at National Tyres . I paid via the internet then went to the local National tyres who supplied and fitted them this also included replacement valves /wheel balancing old tyre disposal. The price I paid was £80.50 per tyre if I had gone direct to National Tyres their quoted price was £133.93 per tyre that is £54 per tyre more expensive.

I tried various other local dealers but the lowest I could find them locally was £99.00 per tyre

I use my local national tyre branch alot, was after a pair for around £100, one of the tyre depots offered me a set of budgets, went to national tyres and said they'd do me a pair of michalins for the same price. Dunno what it's gonna be like when the octy needs some though

I've not used anyone but Costco (for Michelins) or Kwik-fit (fof Continental SC2 and 3) recently. If you place the order online with Kwik-fit they are usually very reasonable indeed. Their Pirelli made Marangoni tyres are also very good and come with a very good warranty if you get a lot of punctures.

Black Circle used many times. Good, no extras and all fitting at local centre covered in price. Will use again.

 same here.

The problem with budget tyres is people don't like to use brands like marangoni (even if there is a link to a decent manafacturer)...There is a tyre snobbery with most people.

I know I'd rather use a known brand, even if the quality is identical etc.

What we're talking about here is Pirelli and Marangoni vs. Volkswagen and Skoda or Toyota and Lexus or Nissan and Infiniti. Same stuff, different name to preserve a price-point.

The brand is irrelevant in most cases. As for brand snobbery - you drive a Skoda so you should know all about that!

I only fit Michelin or Continental as, if you shop around, they're not that much more expensive than 'lesser' brands and they do last longer and they do give better fuel economy.

I always use Tyre-Shopper, always found their prices good, and you can get the odd discount code etc.. They are fitted by National Tyres

I've found a local small business (not kwack fit et al) that will do Kumho tyres for £25 all in. Couldn't find anywhere blackcircles etc that would beat the price.
