312mm - Worth it ???

Featured Replies

just had a quote for standard discs and pads for the 312mm upgrade for the fabia vrs and they are quite cheap. the only expense is getting the carriers and calipers but don't think of them as an expense as you will get your money back when you sell them on when you eventually sell the car.

Would discs n pads from whatever donor was found at a scrapper suffice or is blowing a wad on something fancy like Zero60 grooved and drilled ones from Awesome worth it?

Other than looking fancier - any real benefits?

^ On a road car, not really. Some uprated pads on standard discs might be worthwhile.

Yes.... no more explanation needed

Those, along with Cupra bushes are the only things the Fabia VRS really "needs" IMHO.

So why the remap, coils .........................:D

I tend to go overboard with things :o

But now its done...

Aside from a black grille and gunmetal finished wheels ;)

so long as they were straight and had plenty of life left I'd be inclined to re-use the disks, but the pads can easily be contaminated with all sorts of ****e and would get replaced

A popular choice when improving brakes, all the parts are available from the VAG parts bin so you would be keeping your car OE moreless. They do work well when braking at 70mph ish. much more confidence.

thanks for all the input

Basically, you wont find ANYONE who has gone to 312mm and then thought "wish I'd never bothered" ;)

just seems a lot of extra cash to me thats all, didnt realise the difference would be so big

i presume there are no ABS etc issues from doing this ?

Nope, No ABS issues what so ever, just be a little gentle the 1st few times you use them or you will fly through the windscreen

So, with all this extra breaking going on, does this upgrade shorten the life of the front tyres noticably?

I had the 312mm fitted about 6 months and they are worth it! Give them 500 miles to settle in tho. I am running on standard power but I have the Whiteline rear ARB and have KW1s to lower too. The combination makes the car a lot better handling wise.

The 312s were about 300 quid from Golf Turbo (Briskoda member).

I'll admit I didn't think the brakes were that bad, or needed sorting, but when chris got his 312s my good! What a difference, totally changes the drive and feel of the car. Defo on my to do list, and quite resonable price wise for a mod imo

Had them fitted to my vRS & will soon be fitting them to my Leon.

The OEM 288mm brakes on the Leon didn't feel too bad to start with, as they have the bigger caliper (as used on the 312mm brakes).

But now I want an upgrade, so I've just bought some caliper/carriers from a MkV Golf GTI.:)

I will probably just use the GTI carriers with my existing calipers........... cos I'm lazy. :D

Got some new pads aswell, just need new discs.

I cant even remember my car with the standard oem 288's it was the first thing i done.... still wish it stopped like the LCR Brembo's though... theyre the bee's knee's

I remember my standard brakes. Was following a mate in his fabia with 312's and nearly ended up in his boot on several occasions. I soon got some after that. The only thing i did notice is that they did effect the accelaration slightly due to them being so heavy.

really ?........i did think about the weight but didnt think they would be much heavier ?

Your acceleration might be slightly slower due to the extra weight of the bigger brakes, but the bigger brakes mean you can brake later and harder in to a corner so in a racing environment I'm sure that the pros would more than cancel out the cons...

Has anyone noticed that due to the increase in unsprung weight, the handling changes at all?

I can't say I noticed any difference with acceleration or handling with the extra weight.

I don't think there's that much extra weight anyway to be honest - I'm sure that more extra weight is probably added when people start messing around with 17" alloys etc :)

I had my 312s fitted a couple of days ago with the Zero 60 discs mentioned above - as well as delivering serious braking power (and I cant wait till they're properly bedded in and super warm) the discs look the absolute nuts. I havent posted up any pics yet as Im waiting to give the wheels a good clean at the weekend but with the red calipers as well its a styling winner! :)
