we currently have a mk1 (or mk2?) Cortina with a Rover v8 parked behind mavis (a 1st gen 323 gtx)

You dont know if it is a Mk1 or Mk2 :confused::rofl:

Why? Original Minilites are one of the few designs that would have been available in period, and are way nicer than the Wolfrace 5-slots that are about the only alternative.

I couldn't agree more - but on a sporty period car: Cortina, Escort, Mini, MG etc

A woody moggy with sports wheels? sorry the two just don't go together.

Long story short. The original steel wheels only take up to 145/80R14 and the tyres were getting hard to come by at sensible prices. The 'proper tyres should be 135/80R14 and are impossible to get now. So when Bull Motif sold the minilites with tyres and locking wheel nuts for £400 I ripped their arms off :D Also the steel wheels were knackered and I didn't consider them safe.

Up side is the dry weather handling is amazing, wet weather handling is 'interesting' :D

This was mine, sold it back in April 2007 :(

Spec was as follows:

- Drilled front brake disks and new front brake calipers, rear drum brake slave cylinders and all flexible brake hoses replaced with new stainless-steel braided hoses. Green stuff pads.

- New brake master cylinder.

- `Koni' front suspension telescopic damper kit with new front coil and rear leaf springs et al- utilising an MG Owners' Club kit - lowering the ride height to that of a chrome bumper `B'.

- `GKN' `LE' alloy wheels.

- Engine completely rebuilt, upgraded and converted to run on unleaded fuel.

- 1950cc Stage 2 tuned engine with:

1) Kent 717 fast road camshaft (280º duration & 103º lift).

2) Full polished and ported head (42ml capacity per cylinder)

- Carburettors upgraded commensurate with stage 2 engine and `K & N' air filters

- Stainless steel exhaust.

- Gearbox & overdrive reconditioned

- ‘Borg and Beck’ performance clutch with roller thrust bearing

- Remote door locking with immobiliser to Thatcham Category 2.

- Aluminium bonnet with sound deadening panel.

- Professional body restoration and respray 1998

Sold the car in April this year... miss taking it out at the weekend, real back to basics driving with the biggest grin factor I have had from any car

Not an owner as yet but a big classic fan. Always fancied a Triumph Vitesse Convertible. If I get around to (and having the cash to) buying one, i'll post it for sure. Maybe an MGB GT V8, A pristine Mark one E Type 4.2 FHC that I saw in Devon for £29K(yeah right), a Honda S800, FIAT 128 Coupe or 127 1050 Sport, Citroen 2CV or GS, Merc W123 230 TE estate, Alfasud 1.2 TI could also compete for my attention. An eclectic mix for sure but would all be in my lotto dream garage, sorry if a bit OT but this thread got me dreaming!

I have a trophy winning, un-restored totally mint '86 Rosso red Sierra XR4x4. Will be on display at the Scottish ford day at Bridge of Allan and the Tayside classic car club show at Errol airfield.

It's the original Mini special edition with the 1100 special alloys, Webasto sunroof, 3 clock dash and Herringbone interior. A minter is worth about £4k :eek:
