Which car did you wish you had bought but didnt.

Featured Replies

Which car do you wish you had bought in the past but never got the chance?

For me it was a Pug 306 Hdi with the Dturbo trim. Searched aages for one as my first car (and second) but couldnt find a decent one. Now as there getting older my chance is slipping, I can afford the GTi6 now but wouldnt sell the vRS for one. But the diesel would be nice for a second car, if only I could afford two.

Whats yours that you should have bought but didnt and wish you had?

Had the chance to buy a Lotus Esprit in JPS colours in the mid 80's , wish i had now

When i sold my Sapphire Cosworth, i had the option of an Escort Cossie, but opted for an Impreza instead.

Still regret it !

:(

When I got my Octy Mk I vRS estate I nearly went for a yellow one, but got talked out of it and went for red instead.

Making up for it now with a yellow Fabia vRS

An Audi quattro, but my heart wanted it and my head was pleased I'd not bought it when it saw it in the petrol station every week rather than once a month or so.

A year before I bought my Furby vRS, I wondered about buying a Pug 106 1.6 16v Rallye at my local garage. I was also offered by a member of my Motor club, a (MK2) Mazda MX-5, which would have been nice.

I suppose the problem with the Mazda or the Mini Cooper that I test drove, is after a while the novelty of them would where off. I am still glad I bought the Fabia.

*Thinks Back*

I went to buy my second car.

It was a 1989 VW Gold Ryder 1.6

I went up one week to see it with the plan on going back the following weekend to collect it.

When I went back to collect it the same guy was also selling a white Lancia Delta in full Martini Livery for the same price.

My dad stopped me from changing my mind - the Lancia was older and was bound to have been expensive to run & look after and insurance wouldn't have been great.

However part of me wishes I'd been on my own and nobody was there to talk me out of taking the Lancia instead.

I was once a cats whisker away from buying a mint BMW 2002 Tii.......

It was a long time ago, and I put it down to the stupidity of youth as the only reason I didn't buy it, and probably because it was bright orange.....

What a plonker.

Well I had the chance of buying a Fabia VRs in 2007 but despite thinking and thinking about it i really couldnt justify getting into debt to buy one.

Also Bahnstormer was selling a Doblo in 2008.

I do have a "lust list" though!! just in case!!!!

Regret not buying a 2.8i Brooklands and selling a Mini cooper sport :(

Black 200SX S14A- totally evil-looking, rear-wheel drive, had been really looked after and was like a rocket. Was totally standard too, just awaiting some fettling... The pr*ck sold it to someone else a couple of days after I paid a deposit, then disappeared.

ive just bought one in red :)

back on topic i dont think theres ever been a car ive regretted not buying

everytime ive walked away from a sale its usually because the cars been a shed :thumbdwn:

In 2001 i was looking at cars to replace my rather dog eared Mk1 Seat ibiza (93 on an L) it was either a Dark Green Renault Clio 1.4 RT (97 P) or a slightly newer Fiat Punto 75SX in bright red(98 R).... bought the fiat and all kinds of trouble with in including the head gasket going 7 months in (came with a 3 month warranty) dodgy electric windows......wish i bought the renault clio....

But before i was looking at cars when i got the ibiza i very nearly bought a dark blue favorit hatch but when i went back to look at it it was snapped up by someone else.....

last week in the snow I wished I'd gone for the octy 4x4 rather than the BMW 118................

happy as larry now that the snow has gone!

Nearly bought a sloping front Mk 2 Escort RS2000, but the bloke selling it took us out for a test drive and drove like an absolute nutter - thought better of it.

Did though get a Mk 2 1600 Sport in beige with the chocolate brown vinyl roof - sounds awful but looked really nice. Looking at values now, I wish I'd kept hold of it.

Picture is similar but without the roof.

Car in photo has also acquired a Mexico "bib", or possibly a Fibrefab replica,

When I bought my Octy Mk I the garage had a Octy vRS limited edition in, only about a year old, that the owner was selling, I could have bought it for the same price I paid for my 1.9TDi. Head said no, heart said yes, unfortunately head, and bank balance, won.

Last year, when replacing the Pimpmobile, it came down to:

53 1.9 TDI PD130 Passat in Sport trim that had every conceivable extra on it (leather, solar sun roof etc)

£9000 with, IIRC about 60K on the clock.

or

57 plate 1.9 TDI PD105 Passat entry level, with 7K on the clock for £11000.

We all know which way i went, but we also know which way i should have gone.......

Nah - I've had my Mk1 MX-5 for nearly 11 years now and the novelty still has't worn off - I still get out of it with a big smile when the roof has been down and still look back at it when I've parked it up... (but then maybe that's just me being sad!)

Regret not buying a 2.8i Brooklands

I did exactly the same thing - took one for a couple of test drives and loved it (though if I'm honest it didn't feel as fast as I'd expected it to do). I dithered for a few days and when I'd made my mind up to have it, it had been sold :(

Bought a 320i BMW instead, which was nice, but still wished I'd got the Capri.

Back to the OP's Peugeot theme - I once owned a 5-door 205GT (a slightly warmed 1360cc hatch) but always had a hankering for a 205 GTi 1.9 (loved the wheels). Going on from that, the ultimate would have been the 1.9 GTi with the Dimma bodykit, which IMHO must rank as one of the most beautiful bodykits made for a car - just look at those arches !

almost bought a new lupo gti back in the day, but i got a tdi one instead

A Cortina Lotus mk1, the white and green one. 5years ago one come up for sale at £14000, I ummed and arred for a couple off days then decide I'll have it, when I called the vendor someone had beat me to it. Have'nt seen one for sale since. I always wanted one since I started driving but at 17 insurance was prohibitive. :(

RS 2000's were for the chavs of the 70's. RS1800's were for the men who know.

Not at all displeased with my Leon but everytime I see a MK2 vRS in Race Blue it makes me question my decision a little bit.
