Gutted!!!

Featured Replies

........ Gutted being an understatement.

Spent 6 hours on the car on Saturday (to the wifes disgust) as I wanted the car to look its best for this week (for reasons I wont go into) and it was IMHO looking fantastic. Drove to a client meeting this morning in Canterbury but first had to meet up with my MD in retail park car park. Tight entrance to get into the car park and in the process of trying to get past some dosy woman I managed to swipe the side of my car on a bollard. Didn't even see the thing as I pulled in as it was belowthe window line. But, end of the day its my own fault, which is what makes me feel even worse. This is the damage.........

Cant believe that swiping a bollard at less than 3-5 miles an hour (no more than that) can do so much damage. Car didnt have a single mark on it and I have been so so anal with making sure it didnt get any. I even had a delivery of Valet Pro Orange Pre Wash, 2 German Applicators and 303 Aerospace yesterday and was soooo looking forward to the weekend!!!!!

Seeing this made me cringe, really feel for you there mate! Hope it isn't too costly to put right.

Thanks. The crunching sound made me cringe too. Seeing it made me feel sick. I will be able to claim on my company policy as its a company car. I wont have to pay the excess which is some comfort.

Shame. :( New door skin I think, and hopefully the sill can be pushed out, or just filled & repainted.

Defo a new door skin and handle but I hope they can pull the sill. Might take some work but I fear it wont be the same again.

It's only cosmetic really so I would have no issues with it having been repaired, if you're worried about resale / quality. I'm sure a good job will be done on it. From the looks of it, the handle can probably be repaired as well - just looks like the paint has been rubbed off, unless it is more serious up close? New handle is no biggie though.

Ouch that will be a new sill then :(

Reckon so. Is that a major job?

It looks like it is bent in too many directions to be pulled.

Fitting a new sill is no big deal, older cars used to have it done every 15 years or so.

Thanks for coming back. Thats a relief.

Really feel for you there. I also like to try and keep mine as best I can, even tho' its a company car and, for anyone who likes to take some pride in their car ................ there but for the grace of god go any of us!!!

Hope it polishes out ok

:-(

I'm sure that will be repaired quite easily.

Cheers mate. Thanks for comment. Some of my mates think I am mad being so careful with it even though its company but I have always taken pride in my cars and it has always been my plan to buy the Superb out when the lease runs out in 3 years.

Gutted for you - especially after all the cleaning effort you had put in.

I always tried to keep my company cars looking good when I had them - and every one was even given a thorough detail before they went back to the lease company.

Love that colour of blue - I think its one of the best colours for a Superb. Why not post a few pics of the other side to cheer yourself up!

Yeah sorry to hear of it man.

As much as it's a pain in the ****, nobody was hurt and it's repairable. Still a bitter pill to swallow though, have been there myself. Good luck with the repair, hope you get good news back.

Ouch, not pretty.

Maybe somebody can correct me here, but I'm sure parking bollards have to be high vis and obvious don't they?

To be honest, it was painted with yellow black stripes on one half. The other half has been ground away by the previous people who have done the same as me when they have gone into the car park. It seems to have claimed quite a few victims. Thinking back the post may have been concrete cased in a steel tube so they dont want it to move. I didnt have a chance to check its height as I was trying to get to my meeting. I'm back in Canterbury again this weekend so I might go down and measure its height and check exactly how visible it is for my own satisfaction. But when all is said and done, I didnt see it, I hit hit just have to live and learn!

Thanks to those who have commented so far with kind words of reasurance. Nice to know I'm not the only one that has done this and that on the face of it it shouldnt be difficult to repair.

Ouch. Was it the car park near the cinema? That's the only one I can think of with a dodgy entrance.

I may be wrong here but, can't the damaged section be releived and a new section put in from a donor car? I saw it done to an octy when it came off the jack last year. . You might be lucky enough to be able to replace the whole section in one.... I don't know what the structural integrity of the door lip is, but these days a telented panel beater can do almost anything you ask of them. .

If it is, then it's off to the brakers with one of these :D

No the one on Sturry Road by Mc'Ds, T K Max and Matalan. Caught it on the really obvious bollard that I didnt see as I drove in. Just completely went out of my line of site as I took the left then left again as you go in.

I dont want anyone coming near my car with one of those things!! One of my mates at work had the back end of his car taken out a little while back and the repairers did a fantastic job. Mines is going to the same place so feeling a bit more confident now.

Word of advice mate - on no account have the work done by a Skoda garage or any Skoda authorised repair shop - they will bodge it and no matter how many times you take it back, they will never go the work properly. you will be stuck with a second class bodged car.

Trust me - I have had my Superb bodged and damaged by every Skoda agent who ever tried to affect repairs on it.

Go to an independant body shop.

My advice - take it or leave it!

Many thanks for that. Car will be going off to an insurer approved bodyshop in due course. The estimator came over to day and doesnt think the sill will be a problem so thats a bit of a relief. Just need to wait for the call for them to collect it. Need to have word with the insurers though as the courtesey car the bodyshop will provide is a fricking Hyundai Getz!!!:(
