What tyres are you "running" with?

Featured Replies

Just wondering what tyre brands you guys are using and also what the widest tyre that will fit on the standard phase one Octy alloys is as 205 seems to be dearer than 215 and you can NORMALLY go up one width in tyre size without too much of a problem. Also, recommended ONLINE place to buy?

Cheers, Taff

I'm running F1s on the front and have just bought 2 new for the back to replace the Dunlop SP Sport 2000s.

Great grip in both the wet and dry and generally come top of the tyre tests. I bought mine from Camskill :)

Widest you can go on standard alloys is 225/45

Cheapest online I have found is Cheap Tyres Discount Tyres & Japanese Import Car Parts Spares Tuning Performance ::

I am using Hankook Ventus V12 Evo's all round since Tuesday actually and have to say they grip and grip and grip some more. An excellant tyre and I am more than happy with them. Popular choices are also:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetric

Toyo Proxes T1-R

Kumho KU31

Falken FK452

I have used the Falken's and they are good but not a patch on the one's I have now.

Ian

Pretty pleased with my Kuhmo KU31's, will def get another set

I'm running the Hankook Ventus V12 Evo tyres too. Really good tyres:thumbup:

Toyos.

Wet or dry they are awesome, I've tried loads and keep going back too the toyos.

Just watch them when its slightly damp, like any tyre really though.

I had Falken 452's on mine, were very good!

F452s on mine, and 4 more in the garage to fit when required :-)

Seem to grip reasonably well and wear well too - get at least 30k from the fronts, so that can't be sniffed at.

I'm shredding some Michelin Pilot Sport's at the mo.

I would guess these about the best, although I also guess they are not cheap, which puts them out of my reach really, as I get 6 months out of a set of fronts:O

Pirelli p6000 at the mo,seem a good tyre but dont last long:D:D:D

eagle f1 assy in 225/45 went for them as they won evo's tyre test.

Got toyos on mine ...as someone said great in wet and dry ... I also thought they were not too bad in the snow either

I'm running Falken FK452's in the standard 205/50 size.

They seem to do the job and the last set lasted 18k on the front.

Pirelli p6000 at the mo,seem a good tyre but dont last long:D:D:D

P6000s are awful, if you think they are good you'll be surprised when you put some good rubber on there

Kumho KU31s on the back and some crappy Avon ones (ZZ3 or ZV3 ) on the front

pirelli p6000...18000 on the front and 40000 rear. have tried others but maintain the p6000 as a great tyre

I have Vredestein Ultrac's at the moment which replaced Toyo Proxes T1-R. Out of the two I would recommend the Toyo.

I got 225/45/17 Toyos T1-R's all round from Camskill, can't fault them

Parent's are running Conti Sport Contact 2's 205/50 on their MK1 4X4 and they are great

Falken fk452's on front ( got 16k from last set, will get less from this set), kumho ku31's on back.

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymetrics are ten times better than the Toyo T1R's. I took the T1R's off after a couple of thousand miles and gave them to a freind and he's currently shredding them on a Golf R32. In my opinion they are dangerous in damp conditions and don't run at all well with a stiffer suspension set-up and at the Nurburgring they were useless. It has been said that they don't suit high powerd front wheel drive cars also.

The F1's are MUCH MUCH quieter and the Daddy of all the tyres I've shredded so far - and that's about 2 sets a year

Well that's nearly every tyre manufacturer covered.

:orb_laugh This always happens with tyre opinion threads. I brought the T1R's from advice given on this forum and regreted it. There are so many factors to tyre choice, a big one being driving style - may dad in his Audi A4 1.9Tdi will think all the above tyres are fantastic but will never use them properly. The truth is that even most of budget makes are good these days for normal everyday use.

What are you after from a tyre? As for normal everyday use all the above will be fine. Obviously the more power and speed you ask the tyres to handle then the differences become vast. Also the way a tyre slides is crutial for track day users - I've had tyres that grip and grip, then suddenly let go with a cloud of smoke and screeching and others such as the F1's that give good feedback and a very progressive controlable slide characteristic. There are tyres which suit softer suspension, others that work great from cold but become "squirmy" when hot and some that only come to life when they're soft and sticky from heat. Others excell in the wet such as pilot sports but there are better performing dry weather tyres.

Basically when you ask questions on forums about tyres you end up back at square one. Which ones?

pirelli p6000...18000 on the front and 40000 rear. have tried others but maintain the p6000 as a great tyre

Unfortunately you are wrong ;)

Pirelli P6000 reviews - tyre reviews, ratings and road tests for all car, bike and trackday performance tyres

To name but a few comments:

"Dry grip is average and feedback is average to poor. Wet grip is woefully bad however and I would advise anyone to avoid these tyres like the plauge for this very reason. There is a reason these tyres have been nicknamed 'the ditch finders'!"

"These are the OEM tyres for my car. I am not impressed at all. They are prone to tramlining especially as they wear and the road noise and vibration is very poor. I can see why they are near the bottom of the league. Very twitchy when pushed in the wet."

"Absolutely the worst tyre for any condition remotely damp I've ever used and this without really pushing on. Experience is in comparison to Michelin Energy, Continental Contact and Goodyear Eagles all used on this vehicle."

"This has to be one of the worst tyres I've ever had. Dry grip is unremarkable, wet grip is truly appalling! (breakaway is as sudden as it is unannounced). They don't call these things 'Ditch- Finders' for nothing. Avoid."

"On our V12 BMW, these tyres are shocking, really bad indeed. Even in the dry the car is easy to unsettle with the accelerator, and in the dry they are lethal"
