Onyx or Ivory cloth dilemma.

Featured Replies

Trying to decide on the cloth upholstery (do not want leather) for the Elegance level - head says Onyx, heart says Ivory. Regarding practicalities, the downsides with the Onyx is that it not only darkens the cabin but shows any bits of lint / fluff etc. On the other hand, the downside with the Ivory could be showing any grubbiness far too easily. The Onyx is the sensible/ cop out choice with the Ivory being the courageous/ foolhardy route.

Does anyone have experience of day to day practicalities, or not as the case may be, of living with the light coloured Ivory cloth?

Some pictures would help?

Onyx :)

Here is the Ivory cloth.

That's leather?

Leather is easier to keep clean than cloth. I would definitely not have a light coloured cloth, learnt my lesson in the Fabia vRS!

Onyx for me.

I looked at an elegance with ivory in it before I bought the vRS (just checking sizes and stuff and couldn't get to see a vRS at the time) and it looked really mucky really easily, even though it was only a year old. Onyx looks classier for me, and a bit less "old". The ivory interior reminds me of my grandad's Rover that he once tried to sell me

Sorry Babs but that is in fact cloth - notice that the seat inserts appear mottled, sort of a wavy line self pattern.

Here is the light leather option which is available.

I note your experience of light cloth though, trouble is it looks nice when new - after all, it was even your choice once. Trouble with most cars, the choice is normally between too dark or too light.

Probably Onyx will win the day - mind you there is always bespoke leather - all the colours under the proverbial rainbow.

Now there's food for though !.

The thought of Rover - now that has put me off!!

think it also depends on exterior colour (& whether you have kids) mine periodically destroy the inside of my car...

The first picture looks like half-leather, half-alcantara to my eyes? But that's not the point!

I would definately not go for a light coloured cloth again! Perhaps cream leather, but I like dark interiors anyway!

My latest Octy has an Ivory cloth interior ( my last one has Onyx) I must admit that the Ivory cloth does makes the car MUCH lighter, but on the down-side it does need cleaning more often. So far most of the foot fall has been handled by the fitted floor mats in the front though I did notice that one of the kids has left a big muddy stripe on the footwell plastic over the last week!!

Overall, so far, I am happy I went with Ivory, but as *CJ* said I have a dark exterior colour so think that helps and also the kids understood the ground rules before the new car arrived :)

My son has onyx in his octavia and i have ivory in mine. the onyx is by far the more practical, my seats are water marked and as previously mentioned i too would worry about peoples attire.

Ivory looks great, as does light grey/silver (be it leather or cloth), however i would never own another car with it again, black or even dark grey every time for me.

Resale wise, you'd struggle due to the reasons stated by others.

Thanks for all the comments, not surprisingly the consensus of opinion goes to the Onyx.

Just to put another fly in the ointment, the SE level, which is one below Elegance, offers Grey cloth as an alternative to Onyx.

Trouble is by the time the SE is configured up to Elegance level, it is more expensive.

and would be worth a lot less later on.

I have onyx in my elegance, and its reasonably easy to keep clean.

I fell in love with the Ivory when shopping for my Elegance. Then I noticed that the footrests in the new showroom car were already looking tatty. I figured 3 years of use would have the whole lot looking very sad & dirty.

Picked Onyx & very happy.

If you're ordering new, any mileage in asking the dealer to fit the grey in the Elegance, if that's what really floats your boat? For sure it's possible, if only you can find an accommodating stealer... ;)

Personally I think the SE's grey cloth option strikes a happy medium between too dark and too light. Even its lower dash and door card colour helps to lighten the cabin without sacrificing practicality too much. Shame it is not optional on the Elegance - or is it????

Having looked at the picture I think you're right - lighter but still practical. One of the things I like about the vRS interior is that the light alcantara bits and the silvery trim just lift the inside a bit, making it less uniformly dark. I like that grey pic you've added - definitely think it's worth an ask at the dealer.

Our Elegance is blue with onyx interior.I have had to put covers on the front seats as i have never seen seats collect dust etc.We had a Primera with almost same colour and they never looked as bad as these. Of course the ivory sounds very upmarket and looks the business ( we had a X-TRAIL) in ivory leather bur in cloth i suppose it would show black bits instead. Not much help am i.

Onyx definitely. All you need is a cheapo Dustbuster and any bits are gone in about 30 seconds.

Wiht ivory, if you are a bit fussy, you spend half your life going "Oh no, not again!"

i have ordered the facelifted octavia in these Grey cloth, as in your pic...

they seem nice in flesh...not too much not too little....

The grey looks very 'scout'.

Is it a scout option?

Re the new facelift, the grey cloth is only available on the SE & 4X4.

The Scout has its own specific standard onyx cloth. Alacantara onyx is also available as £1400 option and includes heated seats.
