5th Gear The Other Night

Featured Replies

Just a quik post to see what people thought of the new Focus RS that was on 5th Gear the other night

To be honest . . . I WANT ONE

Yes it looked & sounded awesome :D

Not sure where I'm going to find 25K though?

Looked rather nice :)

I like it.......but not in that green!

TBH, I wouldn't turn my nose up at a face lift ST-3 either.

If i did get one it would have to be in the performance blue

Wait a couple of months should be about 10k

Yes I thought it looked the nuts, part of me actually liked the snot green as well but I think its a bit flash - engine sounded awesome, it's the only thing sadly lacking from my Furby!

A mate of mine has a deposit down on one, but has suspended it due to the credit crunch, if you want it you might be able to jumb the queue a bit.

horrible car, i couldnt bare driving round listening to the beautiful sound of that exhaust, or feeling the grunt of that awesome engine. lol. awesome car, love to drive one, fords are always entertaining to drive

Awesome car! I'd love one if only i had a spare 25k laying around.

The green is the most popular colour being chosen. Looks nice in white as well. But at £25k before options is a little steep.

I'm sure it'd be a fantastic drive but I don't think I'd be able to put up woth the tacky interior...

I,ve had loads of fords XR2 / XR3i / S1 RST / ORION GHIA / ST170 / ST220 and loved them all but the quality of the interior does let them down a bit

Mate of mine has an ST2 focus and they are getting better but still love my vRS more

 That sound is amazing. Would they take body organs as a p/x?

you would need to sell the other kidney to fuel it.

mate of mine has a st3 on an 08 plate , lovely car and seats are brilliant , it only averages 19mpg tho , if he boots it it drops even more , so with that engine note

its gonna go through money quick.

I wonder if it's as poor to drive as most Focuses. My suspicion is that it's yet another instance of the journos getting all excited about a mediocre/poor car from Ford...

yup, in Bizarro World...:D

I like the colour and thats it lol

I am in no way a ford fan and this car certainly hasnt changed my mind !

Great looking piece of kit but can't afford to buy or run one at the moment. To be honest though a used ST with full service and fairly low miles would be a better bet for me, I don't like anything too in yer face. I bet the insurance will be mega as well. I remember back in the 90s the Escort Cosworth becoming virtually uninsureable!

I know it has some special trick dif thing but I wonder why they did not go 4x4?

Exactly what sort of Skoda is this we're talking about?

Because Jost Capito - the man in charge of the project for Ford (and ex Rally? Driver) didn't want four wheel drive and reckoned he could make FWD work with over 300 bhp!

The result was Ford's development of the "revoknuckle" that allows strut suspension to act like a multilink one and quell torque steer. The review I've read seems to indicate that it has been , to some degree, successful but that an amount of torque steer still remains.

The trick diff is a development of the Quaiffe LSD that was on the original RS and prevent the inside front wheel spinning away power on turns etc. - apparently it works well and far better than the normal electronic brake actuated traction control arrangements that are normally in place to mimic an LSD.

Still wouldn't want a Focus though...

???????I can honestly say i cant see where you are coming from there. Ive had loadsa fords, xr2i, st24, ST TDCI mondeo(fantastic handling) and scorpio cosworth and most recently before my vRS was at st2 focus, and it was absolutley fantastic to drive in. whether hammering it or driving it normally. I'd definately say it was better than my vRS. What swayed me away was the bigger boot and lower fuel bill.

Ive had loadsa fords and wouldnt hesitate to go back to them again in the fututre if they bring out a mondeo ST again

The set up it must work,

It was only just beaten around the nurburgring by the R26R meganne which is practically a road going track car, which was on toyo R888s and is practically empty of anything other than seats inside.

whereas the focus is an everyday driveable car.
