Unsure and undecided.......

Featured Replies

Due to SWMBO being pregnant, its time i got a bigger car ;) (my excuse and i'm sticking to it lol) I've spotted a couple of octy's i like, but not knowing what to look for, i'm looking for some general advice and things to check.

Quite like this one...

Auto Trader UK - SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8T VRS 5dr

Like this one too, but not sure about the mileage........

Auto Trader UK - SKODA OCTAVIA 1.8T RS 5dr Hatchback

Not sure about this one, mileage etc....

Auto Trader UK - SKODA Octavia 1.8T RS

Any help would be SO much appreciated.

Thanks

Davie

Mileage shouldn't be a problem as long as it has got a good service history and it's not at a mileage where it is about to need a cambelt and water pump.

There seem to be loads about at the moment compared to when I bought mine this time last year (I assume people are getting rid because of the cost of tax and fuel) so you should find plenty to choose from and don't feel pressured into going for one you're not 100% happy about.

There are quite a few buying guides in this forum and a quick scan of the first few pages of threads should give you an idea of faults etc.

Cheers bud. I LOVE my wee furby, but dont think its going to be big enough for a pram etc (plus i fancy getting back into 1.8t ;))

Although SWMBO wants to keep it, i'm trying to talk her back into liking a petrol turbo lol

I think the order in which they are listed is the way I would view them. The first one is good for the mileage but I'm not sure on price. It depends how long you want to keep the car for and what you have to spend.

Davie.

I'll drop you a PM in a minute. ;)

I like the 1st one, but not the price tbh lol I know my furby's worth 5.5k all day (got it valued last week )

I've got the weekend off so i might just be forced to go and "investigate" further ;)

Cam belt after every 60k miles

Make sure all the electrics are working (drivers door is known to go a bit mad!)

Check for error codes if you can

There are 2 engine breather hoses that always perish, nothing hard to replace, but look out for it

Make sure the AC is working, and the clutch plate is on properly

Common bushes/joints to go are radiator mounts, ARB bushes, droplinks, rear (front) wishbone bushes (none expensive or hard to fix)

Make sure the clutch/flywheel is sound obviusly

And make sure the oil has been changed regularily and the correct oil has been used

Nothing specific really, pretty solid car. I'm guessing you know your stuff being a Fabia owner, so just look out for any pikey mods like atmospheric DV's and induction kits made from ham!

If they claim it's remapped, ask the see the receipt and find out who did it.

Loads about at the moment for naff all money, so you can easily shop about for a goodun. Try and find one with a clean interior if you can.

Good luck with it, and let us know if you do buy one. It's an absolute monster on the motorway, which will probably be the biggest change over the Fabia. They happily cruise at 130mph all day (in Germany) while still staying quiet and comfortable. Expect to see around 40mpg on the motorway in the UK, and 30-35mpg overall average. If I'm ragging it I normally get 28-30mpg. (I assume you care about mpg because you drive a diesel...... can't think of any other reason to own one! hehe)

I'd have the white one :)

first one does seem a little expensive imo. there are a lot of octavia's out there now so as said dont feel presurised into a purchase, go and test drive a few and see if any take your fancy, also might be worth looking at the seat leon cupra as they have very similar sized boot and performance.

check through them for cambelts as they're due at 40k or 4 years now (i think not 100%) and will cost around £300 to get a good independent to do it. otherwise reading through the buyers threads will help.

Massive boot FTW

You should the amount of baby stuff which I can cram into mine, as well as shopping, rucksak computers and a 12" sub, all at the same time.

Do you need any other reason too buy one;);)

induction kits made from ham!

lol i had great fun in my 1.8t Ibiza FR, fast as fook but easy to drive. I fancy a Leon too but find the Skoda build quality to be better than the SEAT.

Not bothered about fuel economy (anymore :P bodge :P :P :P lol) but its mainly the space i need now lol

I agree, but haggle the price down a bit, looks like a well cared for car.

How do they "Remap to 237BHP" with no other visible mods?

By correcting from DIN net wheels to SAE gross flywheel bhp.
