Cheshire unmarked car

Featured Replies

Thought this little snippet of info may be of use to those of you passing through Cheshire on the M6...

Watch out for silver BMW 3 series saloons! Passed one on Saturday afternoon and clocked it as an unmarked car. Very subtle, but definitely a copper. No BMW badging on it, but looking at exhausts and outside trim must have been at least a 325, and I suspect more likely a 330. So no escaping then!!

I've seen one around Southport. Was quite easy to spot as the extra cameras, mirrors and lights stood out a fair bit I thought!

There is one of these I have seen wait on the slip road at junction 17. They are there quite regularly.

smiley-signs118.gif Why tell everybody ?

They do like the slips between 16 & 18! What shape Beemer? Get a reg plate?

Steve

While were at it. Silver Volvo estate around M55 PN06***.

If you're doing nothing wrong............................................... :rotz:

Was on the way to the Belfy last week also in that area were 2 08 plate 5 series BM's

One was nasty dark green with little wheels :thumbdwn:

To be honest, after what I saw on the M20 this evening, I wish I was a traffic officer in an unmarked car :rotz:

There was a marked Volvo T5 coming at me between 18 and 17 today with all the bells and whistles going. Must have been doing at least 120 as he left me behind trundling along at about the speed limit.

The M4 was insane today with a RTA at J15..... Some very nice undercover cars there!

RTC Rob, RTC!

:P

Fair comment. But I do wonder about the perceived wisdom of unmarked vehicles, rather than just being upfront??

If they are just used to catch motorists driving just over the speed limit (but otherwise safely) then no wisdom at all!

BUT... I'm sure we have all driven along and seen some absolutely shocking bad/dangerous driving, - and there's never a cop about then is there!

Now - at some point you've probably been behind a traffic car and may have noticed everybody around is magically driving ok! - I rarely see dangerous driving when in a liveried traffic car (I'm not talking about stolen/used in crime here - that still happens obviously)

Our unit uses unmarked cars (apart from the 2 liveried Subaru's) to target mainly vehicle crime, but we will deal with instances of dangerous driving - these are the kind of idiots that endanger you and your family when you're out and about, and I like to think there is some wisdom in that!

"BUT... I'm sure we have all driven along and seen some absolutely shocking bad/dangerous driving, - and there's never a cop about then is there"

I have to agree with this. Weve all been in a line of traffic behind a slow moving vehicle with no safe place to overtake and all of a sudden (sweeping generalisation i know) a BMW comes flying past overtaking about 10 cars to get past, and then cutting in infront of someone because a cars coming the other way. it times like that i would love one of the cars to be an unmarked police car.

There is also a WR Blue Subaru Impreza STi with big spoiler on the back. The saloon shape version. They also have a few corsa's in crewe and surrounding area and a Lexus.

I saw a grey VW van with blacked out windows parked on a bridge between 19 and 20 on the M6 - Cheshire's patch ? Wondered if it was a money box or ANPR ? People going south were flashing like crazy so we all slowed down but it might have been too late by then if it was a money box machine.

Yep, 19 and 20 is still theirs :)

They run out of a base by Knutsford services. Never seen a VW knocking about or parked up though. If it was completely unmarked I didn't think it could be a scamera? I'd be more inclined to think ANPR.

Presumably to catch the chavs :rofl::rofl:

Not unmarked but I spotted a liveried up Jag XF on the A1 the other day, looked brilliant!

M56 spotted Silver Scooby{new shape} & Black A3 both un-marked but plenty of lights.

It's good to see there are so many of them out there. I've never knowingly put anybody's life at risk whilst driving, but I've often been on the receiving end of that sort of behaviour and have wanted a police car to appear and sort out the headcase behind it.

It's true to say that the best driving occurs in a row of traffic with a marked car in it, which is why we should be funding more officers and cars instead of pouring cash into electronic solutions to problems that don't exist in the way the government would like us to believe. Visible deterrents and a real and present fear of being caught work, no question. Having said that, the people most likely to be watching out for a jam sandwich are also the ones who are either doing, or waiting to do something stupid so I have no problem with undercover cars catching them out.

I've often though that the best way to get them would be to have an unmarked car ten places behind a marked one, and be ready to hoover up the muppets once the lead car turns off and they all return to form :)
