Nightmare Saturday night

Featured Replies

The trouble with plod these days is they are just heavy handed revenue boys for government coffers.

If caught they would probably get a section 5 and the statutory £80 fine that goes with it. Seems everything you do no matter how minor or serious gets one these days.

Respect for the police is seriously suffering as a result IMO.

Don't think so mate, dropping stuff of bridges is actually a very serious offence and would never be dropped to a section 5...

shoot them all !!!!!!!!!!!!!! (3p a bullet or cheaper for the crap rounds we get for ranges, or thousands in benefits and jail fees). I know the one id go for!

get rid of them!

what is wrong with people these days? shame you couldnt catch them.

like been said it is really attempted murder and is a good job it hit the bonnet and not the screen first or it would of been in the car.

Glad you ok though mate!, shame bout the car. they not jus a bit of metal though but at least she can be fixed fairly easy.

billy

That is extreme and you could have been killed.

Others have having this outrageous and disgusting behaviour bestowed upon them.

Plod need to be told if they haven't already, as this is tantamount to attempted murder.

I totally agree with the above comment, what did they expect the brick to do fly away?

I seem to remember a couple of years ago someone actually was killed by an object dropped from a bridge.

Glad you are ok mate. Same thing happened last year with me, but not on the same scale. 1 day before a car show some charver threw a 'f@@king apple which smashed my headlight -it was just luck I didnt catch him (i did try) because I probably wouldnt be responding with this message

lol be in jail for ABH lol

me too! but still thats what this country needs, sod lockin them up in a cushti cell with free food. give them a damn good kickin so they are in so much pain then leave them in the street to get home solo. if they live then fine if they dont then fine!

P***S

yea a squaddy died when someone threw a brick off a bride a few year ago.

Scary stuff - glad you're okay.

I had a brick lobbed at my old Mondeo (from street level) and it shattered the windscreen - scared the crap out of me. I can imagine what sort of noise that would have made :(

I know and was just being ironic. Labour imo has seriously devalued the authority and respect the police once had. When I was younger you really didn't want your collar felt but these days there is no real fear of being punished......even prison is too comfortable a place these days and is more an inconvenience than a punishment to these wasters.

some people need dropping off bridges themselves...

Agreed. Just what kind of moron can think "hey this will be fun"?

Glad your ok and hope you get it all sorted.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and the offers of help from those in the south.

I rang 999 at the scene and plod turned up with two vans and went looking for them but no luck. The two officers that came first were really kind and helpful, they managed to get the claims number for my insurer off of their blackberry as I didn't have it on my insurance certificate.

Spoke to insurance today and they are suggesting it might be better to pay for it to be sorted out myself as I will not only have to pay the £200 excess but as they haven't caught whoever did it they can't pin it on anybody and I would lose my NCD :thumbdwn: Taking the day off work tomorrow and going to call the place that's keeping it at the moment and see how much they will charge for the work to be done.

I don't think the anger at what happened has really struck home yet, I'm just desperate to get my car back and on the road again. :weeping:

get on the net you should be able to get all the parts you need second hand there are lots to choose from

can you list exactly what you need mate and i will have a look and it wont take long to fit bonnet etc do it yourself im a willing helper

auto glass for the screen £60 go to insures for that as it doesnt effect ncb

westallc you're a hero :)

I've found a couple of silver Octys being broken on ebay so asked about the bonnets.

I think I'll need a new screen, new bonnet, new wiper arms and blades, and the plastic cover/covers that go along the bottom of the screen over the top of the plenum chamber. Also need that black plastic thing that looks like an air con duct that sits behind the air filter box (I think it's a cable duct for the wiring loom?).

I'm phoning the place that has the car tomorrow to see if they can quote me to replace the bonnet and plenum cover, once thats done I can get Autoglass on the case to do the screen. If the garage start talking silly prices then I'll be looking at a flatbed recovery to get it back to Kent and buy the parts myself

I may have a wiper arm,i just need to check which side it is.Free if you cover the postage.

was this on the A40 by any chance? a friend had this done to him about 3 months ago going down there

2 scroats killed a trucker round here bout a year ago, and got done for manslaugter.

That was 3am, and some very young teens that should have been in bed.

I strongly beleive that real police pics should be shown in schools about rail deaths, deaths from throwing stuff of bridges etc etc. Might actually scare them into not doing it.

The same happens in Germany about a year ago, when a log was thrown onto the highway from a bridge.

A BMW was hit and the passenger was killed when the log come through the front window! :thumbdwn:

new wiper arms and blades

Aero upgrade time :-)

Flat bed recovery will be quite expensive won't it? Mate with a landrover and a vehicle trailer....

Glad youre ok, you can have a good old rant at the next Kent meet ( hopefully it will be sorted in time ).

Chuffing heck mate  Hope you get it sorted out. The main thing is no one got hurt :rotz:

Holy ****!

Some little scutter threw an apple at me off a footbridge on the M3 once. Scared the crap out of me as it exploded on the front of the car and dented it. Luckily I was in my old 4x4 so it only added to the other dents! It still really shook me up though. The near death feeling isn't a nice one!

Hope you get it all sorted soon buddy. I'd recommend RAC windscreens, and a Pilkington screen. You can sit and wait while it's done if you want.

What goes around comes around in life. So hopefully the person that did this will get hit by a bus. If the Police can't get them, Karma will.

lets hope so mate.

let us know how it goes and what did get broke from that.

cheers

billy

Not far away actually, it was the A4074 near Sandford-on-Thames.

The garage don't really want to fix it as they said if they get anything wrong then I'd have to go back up there to sort it out - they are a BMW bodyshop so I spose they weren't happy about working on an unfamiliar car. So I called a local recovery firm today and they are going to pick it up and bring it back down here tomorrow (cost me £220 :( ), then I'll keep it covered up on the drive and get the bits together to fix it myself hopefully by next week. If anyone sees a silver Octavia bonnet in a local scrappies or on ebay can you drop me a PM

That sounds really expensive!!!

Did you try that number I sent you?? He brought a golf from Devon to Croydon for £120

I'd be tempted to arrange for the windscreen to be replaced there, get the train down to meet them, remove the passenger wiper and drive it back up myself.

At that sort of price to get it towed back, you might as well stick it through on the insurance?

I have to pass under the bridge where the trucker was killed every morning between 3-5 am.

It's on the A45 East Bound Wellingborough Northants.

I always worry and try to look out to see if any chavs are waiting to throw something off.

A few months ago i actually hit a traffic cone just under the bridge which had no doubt been thrown off on purpose.

The black base of the cone was facing the car so i did'nt see it, luckily i slowed and swerved just in time. Still had to replace the whole frount bumper moulding as it ripped one side clean off!

I usually wait until i'm just approaching the bridge then quickly change lanes knowadays.

Won't be long until someone else is killed! :thumbdwn:

Hope you get the car sorted soon mate.
