Anyone else find the Octavia VRS Seats uncomfy?

Featured Replies

Hey all, recently fitted the half leather vrs seats to my car.

At first i found them rather uncomfortable on the back of the thigh whilst driving (i tend to rest my foot at a diagonal).

After a few days they started to ease off a little, but now its come back with avengance.

I've tried adjusting the seating positions to no avail :(.

I would say i've got shortish legs for my height, but im not sure if my legs and arms are out of proportion. I tore a cruciate ligament about 5-6 years since, although i can hold the clutch down. I tend to have to sit 1 notch closer to the steering wheel as it tends to hurt the base of my spine overstretching a little.

The one plus of the VRS seats is the lumbar support, it has totally transformed the pain i use to suffer with the bog standard seats.

Would like to see all your opinions on the subject.

I've found mine really comfortable so far - drove 3 hours to the Lakes this month without a break, and never at any stage felt I wanted one. I am 6' tall - whether that makes a difference.

The DSG box also helps as the left stays planted on the footrest, and only the right is having to work.

No problems with them here and like you say - the inclusion of lumbar adjustment is a particular bonus.

Must be me then, i tend to find that pressing down on the sides of the seat i can feel a hard surface just under the leather. This applys to the other side of the drivers seat.

Im 6ft and about 12 1/2 stone, so im not particulaly big built. The most comfy car i've driven yet was the Phase 2 Vaux Omega Auto, no clutch and just bobbed along :).

The Octavia has really nice seats, look far better than the torn one it had in....but now im wondering if i can put up with the pain.

I've done about 3 hours driving today and my leg is still sore sat here many hours after driving.

Don't think it was just you! There was a thread on here (a while ago!) all about uncomfortable seats in the vRS. I'm sure a quick search will find it! I think one of the members who poseted said they were a physio & they suggested that the "resting your foot on the diagonal" thing, could if the seat was incorrectly adjusted put pressure on a nerve and thus cause pain.

It took me a while to get the right position in mine, (about an inch too close to the pedals!) but once done, it's been fine! I did find their advice very helpful though :D

Hi, I have driven around 3000 miles in my VRS, on short runs of around 30mins I find the seats very comfy, but when I drove back from the lakes it took three hours and I do get pain in my lower back, I have since sat the seat much more up right and its helped (not that i was REALLY leaning back before).

I havent had any other problems and I think its just getting the right position then insisting the GF doesnt move it.... Hope you get the problem sorted...it would be awful to drive such a nice car and find it un comfy.

Well,

honestly I feel quite good even after long trips on my VRS. I really appreciate a solid seat typical of german cars, too, opposite to the standard on french (e.g. renault).

Did you try a lower regulation of your seat?

i notice a lump under the leather that sticks in the bottom side of my right thigh, bit of a pain sometimes but they are otherwise very comfy on long journeys.

I felt like this at first (I mentioned it on the test drive) but I got used to them and I have no problems doing 3-4 hour stints now.

Last week did a non-stop trip from Inverness to York and had no problems. First proper long (4 hours plus) trip in the car and I was mighty impressed with seat comfort. Only issue was a slightly sore back right at the end, which was easily remedied by dialling in a bit of lumbar support to take the pressure off.

It took me months to get the right position in mine, and I was getting loads of back pain with them. Last week I drove from Santander in north Spain to the south of France and back with no problems. It also helps that my other half is the same height as me so she doesnt adjust the seat when she drives it (which is very rare!)

Go on then, you've twisted my arm...I'll swap you then

PM me when you want to do the exchange, and I will give you some beer tokens as well :D

Cheers

I find the VRS seats comfortable, but it took a bit of fiddling around to get them right. Even though I am tall, I can't have the seats on the lowest setting as they dig into the back of my thighs. The problem is that the seat base tilts and lifts at the same time.

Overall, IMHO, the vRS seats are excellent for an OE seat if perhaps slightly soft for side bolster support.

The problem I think you will find, relates to the wire frame of the bolster in the base of the seat that digs into the underside of your thigh, particularly if you sit with your legs/knees splayed outward.

The cure is to set your driving position so that your legs are straight forwards/backwards and not splayed (imagine you are in a low slung sports car/single seat racing car).

Thereafter, get the base as high as feels comfortable and gives you adequate visibility and then set the backrest fairly upright so that, with arms stretched straight forward you can rest the underside of your wrist on the top of the steering wheel.

Check out the professionals advice here;- .: RECARO :.

I hope that helps.

That was the sort of advice i was referring to!

Glad to have been of help. I'm not the physio by the way; just an enthusiastic driver who has to have a correct seating position due to a weak back (too much Rugby) and an impending hip replacement op. ;)

I've always found the seats very comfy. Drove back from Goodwood to Carlisle the year before last an wouldn't have stopped I don't think, if it wasn't that I needed the toilet.

Did take me some time to get it right though, and really annoys me when the dealer moves it at services...

In answer to the original post header....no. Could sleep in them if I had to. If only they were heated as I've used other cars with heated seats and that kills the pain quite quickly.

The seats in my Elegance have the lumbar support, but no matter what you set it at it doesn't seem to make any difference. To me it is like sitting in a deck chair, several of my friends have commented on this and say even after a short trip their backs hurt. The problem is they are in such a relaxed position that I probably lean forward unconsciously when driving.

I love the seats in my vRS, have driven across Europe in the car with no back pain at all. Even my mother likes the seats

Best seats I've ever had in a car......... since my Saab

Many thanks for the reply's/advice guys...im going to have a closer look at the recaro guide.

I did try a search, but alot of it was reffering to the fabia vrs seats.

I would say i've got a bad posture, personally i've only ever been properly comfortable in 2 of my 6 cars lol. The Omega was so comfy, i could have fallen to sleep in it.

Hahaha, nice try damo....i've just finished having the leather trims taken out of the estate door cards that came with the seats and had them put in my hatchback door cards. So there going to be staying in for a while.

I can never get comfortable in the vRS either. I'm 6'2", lightly built. Skoda need to look at Vauxhall's seats.

Hahaha, nice try damo....

Look into my eyes...

:orb_hypno You know you want to give me your seats

Skoda need to look at Vauxhall's seats.
... for an example of what not to do.
