Another pointless thread

True .. I wonder if the OP knew what can of works he was opening. I am going to start a Mods are crap thread now, after all it is that time of year :)

Bikes v Cars

Mods are crap

Shoot the dog

Poison the cat

I'm in love with the hamster next door and don't know how to approach them

We are all doomed

My budgie has a cold, anyone know a remedy

Any I have missed :)

Diesel cars are crap and cost twice as much to run as a V8 petrol.

I always filter through traffic on my bike and have never had a problem from police either, although you do get the odd person who doesn't like it and seemingly pulls further across there lane to try and stop you getting through LOL and i'll admit that i'm guilty of having a loud exhaust which some people don't like but at least it lets people no i'm there when they might not be able to see me coming :D

I filter where it's safe to do so as well.

It's one big advantage of a bike and isn't illegal.

If you ride like a **** doing it then it can be driving without due care or even dangerous driving , but that's true of all sorts of things.

I'd say 60% of car drivers ignore you , 35% will move left to help you through and 5% will try and block you.

I've had one (BMW) driver wait till I was along side and then try and run into me while shouting abuse - he got a boot to the door for his trouble.

Perhaps Dr Z had met the guy I followed this morning -it was the size /type of his bike that rung alarm bells - small wheels etc , then his manner of riding - weaving all over the road .The road becomes three lane (two in the direction I was going in )- so the weave then INCLUDED the outer lane at about 5mph . By this time I was a bit miffed so thought I'd inform him of my presence from a safe distance -so used the horn for the purpose intended (hoping he'd move into one or the other and give me a clear & safe chance to get past .He moved to the outsidelane -so I shot past(with plenty of clearance ) to see him making all sorts of hand gestures( from mirror ) .

At the pedestrian lights (just before the roundabout ) the lights turned red -so he decided it was his chance to go from the outside lane to the other side and on to the pavement - still making all sorts of hand gestures -( all as described by mrs V -JIC we have a pit nicker in the audiance )

Or the two others I saw going home (must be mad cyclists day ) - one slowly weaving on pavement talking to other one on the road - two /three prams held up behind the one on pavement -a queue of cars behind the other .

Not really, nope. I was just wired after a near-miss and needed to share. Lesson learned (2nd in quick succession).

Were shell i start!

As some of you may know i have recently got back on two wheels after a brake of a few years, Must say not noticed any lower standard of driving than before, I always try to keep a safety zone around myself, and make myself visible to other road users. My instructor once said to me " just think everyone on the road it out to kill you! " I will sometimes filter if it is safe to do so, i won't force a hole though as there is always room later to make progress. My biking is mainly for pleasure and relaxing, so if i come up top traffic i hang back and asses the situation. Car drivers on generally are ok once they know your there.

I am not the best rider in the world but try to practise safe riding when i'm out and about because at the end of the day i want to go home to Lynz and the girls.

If you think it's hard watching out for cars and bikes when your out and about, try looking at the standard of driving from behind the wheel of a LGV C+E (artic) whilst driving through central London. need eyes in the back of your head, with bikes, cycles, taxes all trying to cut anyone up :D

at the risk of reopening this argument that describes all that is bad an detested of arrogant cyclists!

To take this back to the original post for the moment, does anyone think the motorbiker was right to do what he did?

When I learnt to ride a bike my instructor made it clear that, whilst filtering was fine, squeezing past cars to get to the front of a queue at lights or a roundabout was stupid, better to sit a car or two behind the lead car so the cars in front of you and behind you know you are are there and have chance to take you into account.

Basically, everyone sucks and needs retesting :)

TBH 99.99999% of all drivers and riders on the road do something stupid at one point or another. The other 0.00001% lie.

i'm a newbie but will stick my neck out anyway to say until there is some sort of worthwhile incentive for car drivers to improve their skills and or awareness then they will generally speaking always be less aware and keen to improve their driving than your average motorcyclist who constantly need to be ultra-aware of careless car drivers.

That said the idiots who filter through medium paced traffic and or overtake like lunatics are stupid. But i have had many car drivers look me right in the eyes and still pull out in front of me.

Off to Brighton :)

I have been riding a bike for more years than I care to remember and have never

placed myself in a position of danger as the OP has experienced.

Not all bikers are t0ssers, but the few that are tend to get us all tarred with the same brush......

I can remember my mate who had just picked up his brand spanking R1. On the way home with his wife riding pillion, he was filtering down between very slow moving traffic on a dual carrageway, when a driver in the n/s lane pulled sharply into the o/s lane with no indication into a gap that had developed & didn't see my mate approchiching in between the traffic. My mate & his wife was in hospital for some time & the R1 was more or less wrote off.:rotz:

I have been wanting to take my bike tests, but SWMBO won't let me, as she fears for my safety. Not because I would not set out to do something stupid, but because of the other drivers & I have seen quite a few muppets who disregard bikers.

Yet to the defense of car drivers there are muppet bikers, like the one who over took me on the C&F as I was already at the side of another car I was in the process of overtaking:eek: He made a aknowledgement stating he shouldn't have done that & rode off into the distance

There is good & bad on both sides, but unfortunatly the bikers always seem to come off worse. I've never ridden a motorbike on the road, but I still give total respect to our two wheeled friends:thumbup:

I had my first experience of a diesel spill on a roundabout whilst driving to pick the Octy up in the Fabia. I saw a wet roundabout where everything else was dry so took it a bit steady and it was like ice! I thought a diesel spill would just be similar to a greasy roundabout and just get a small amount of understeer but this was far worse than I was expecting. Made me very glad I'd made the call to take it steady! Dread to think what it would have been like if I'd only had 2 wheels under me!

And when that diesel soaks into the road and some rain hits it.. even worse :thumbdwn:

I think bikers should treat all car drivers like they are A) morons or B) have not seen them, because its not the car driver that is going to hospital is it? I'm a car driver but i'm always very cautious of lorrys because they are bigger than me and i would come off worst.

I live not far from a pub in shropshire that has a big bikers meet. someone was killed a few months ago in front of his wife. He was doing a wheely at the time. I have seen some insane and i do mean insane driveing from some of those people. I know its not all bikers but when they get together it's as if the rules of the road don't apply. just my view.:)

To take this back to the original post for the moment, does anyone think the motorbiker was right to do what he did?

I said much earlier in the thread that I wouldn't have done what the biker in this thread did, I would have filtered up to the car one behind the give way line and waited there where I was more likely to be seen.

Unfortunately the thread has now degenerated into "all bikers are idiots" and "all car drivers are blind" along with the whole filtering argument which despite popular opinion from thousands of ignorant tin box drivers, is NOT illegal.

Not all bikers are t0ssers, but the few that are tend to get us all tarred with the same brush......

+1:thumbup:

Imagine how many threads there would be, if we were to post about 'arseh!e car drivers' pulling out on 'us' after coming back from a jaunt on the bike??

And to the OP, why do you not start new threads when you have a near miss with another car??

Ian:)

Hehehehe

Oh it's all gone quiet over there :D:D:D:D:D:D:huep:

I am starting to get ****ed off with the term "most", it's ignorant and just plain wrong, as said before by lot's of people there's eejits on both sides.
ok just so i don't piss you off i have this to add,ALL bikers are leather wearing homos:D

this is all i have to say on the matter:rofl:

Edited by oilburninnut

Lol :D

It's all bad habits, from all road users. If it was policed better (i.e. not using yellow boxes) everything would be better for us all!
