Remote Central Locking

Featured Replies

Here's one for ya. Unbelievably SWMBO's 'new' car (Audi A3) doesn't have RCL :( Now I can't remember the last time I had to use a key to open the door. So, short of having an aftermarket alarm system installed that can also operate the CL are there any alternatives out there?

Anyone any ideas..... Baited breath time again :)

Surely it is a fault?

or oversight at least.

The Audi web sight lists the A3 as having RCL as standard.

My God  We'll be back to winding up our own windows next!

As Kentish says, it's got to be a fault. Are there buttons on the fob or did you just get a key?

Do you have the RCL Keyfob Jimmy?

If so, i'd agree it's a fault, or may have been disabled.

Ah, some confusion here. When I said new car I meant 'new car' if you see what I mean. It's a 1998 MY and apparently RCL was an option - car has every other option but this it would seem. Keyfob is button-less and just a plain old key. Not even a flicky key neither. German Sh17e.......:(

Alarm job then...I guess you could have the OEM rcl fitted but it would be a bit of a job and not worth it.

German Sh17e.......:(

Harsh........but fair.

Funny how you get used to things. Any cars I've driven recently without RCL I get out, walk about ten yards and then have to go back and lock it :thumbdwn:

There used to be a product sold by the German Car Company that mated with the VAG Central Locking System that gave you a keyfob that worked the factory normal central locking...

It had rolling codes etc etc, so it was pretty safe, and IIRC, it just plugged straight into the loom. It was a lot cheaper than any semi-decent alarm too, and you could DIY fit.

Shame GCC went bust.

I'm sure you'll be able to find the product somewhere though!!

Jimmy.

Get a decent alarm on it mate, protection & convenience in one package :)

get another Octavia!!!!

It's already got the std fit Audi alarm and immobiliser so I'm loathe to upgrade but that might be the only option.....

As for another Octy it was mentioned in conversation. But then I was shot down in flames....

It is amazing what you take for granted, I couldn't imagine owning a car without RCL, cruise, climate control, electric windows, CD changer ........... and yet just 5 years ago I was knocking about in a 13 year old 1.3 Vauxhall Astra.

Well speaking of Central locking, Ive just had my Clifford Concept 650 fitted, and apparently there is no way no how to be able to tie an alarm system(clifford or otherwise) into the Skoda Octavia RCL system, apparently same applies to the VW's too, so he said, so i gotta lock the doors with the skoda remote and then arm up the clifford :thumbdwn:

Does anyone else know if this is true?

But on a better point i now have two imobiliser's on the car(Skoda and Clifford) aswell as the clifford proximty.

That's a load of cobblers. My META system is operated off the std Octy remote.

Who fitted your Clifford? Whoever it was doesn't have a clue, as my Concept 500 works my Octy's RCL very nicely thankyou :)

Proximity sensor is nice though isn't it ;)

I'm getting an alarm fitted to my Octy as soon as I get it :D Can't remember the make, but it will be incorporated into the immobiliser and RCL and will work off the standard keyfob. So your supplier is telling porkies

Now if this "fitter" is saying he can't operate the Clifford from the Skoda Remote, then that's correct. Only the dealer-fit upgrades can do that.

After market alarms can certainly lock the doors when armed from the alarm remote :)

Or maybe I'll get a new remote with the alarm :o But it will operate the alarm and RCL :)

Was great on the Scooby as we had tints too so anyone who was peering inside got a nice surprise and then looked around and walked off hoping no-one had seen them ;)

Mine caused much consternation amongst the locals when i was staying with some friends in Czech recently.

Every one of them who tried to look into the car got squawked at, it was great fun watching them out of the flat window

  • 2 weeks later...

After much confusion with the current alarm I've had installed (Autowatch clam 376) I have decided to switch to the clifford G5 concept 650 (with proxi alert).

The autowatch alarm is a Cat1 upgrade and works solely off the octy remote ( ) BUT I have had nothing but hassle with it regarding it arming itself while I am driving resulting me having to get out of the car, lock the doors, unlock and get back in and start her up within 30seconds (otherwise the alarm would re-arm itself). The alarm also armed itself as soon as the engine was turned off or the engine stalled :thumbdwn: .

Because of the above I will be having it swapped Foc to the clifford 650. I have been informed tho that the alarm cannot work off the octys remote (by 2 separate pro alarm fitters) and instead will need to be armed using the supplied clifford keyfob, which is the only downside. Didn't ask whether the doors can be unlocked using the clifford so if anyone can help?

Also I paid

The Clifford fob will arm / disarm and lock / unlock your doors.

As you have been told already, it can not interface with the Skoda Key Fob.

As for

i got me a meta 2-1 upgrade that works off the standard remote. think its actually armed via the indicators. ohwell, it works, i don't know its there and it makes noise if some one breaks in so i'm happy
