Thanks to everyone for all your concern.

I'll probably cheer up in a few days when I look back and think what all the fuss was about.

Can't wait to look at the CCTV though to see if I can identify the bucking fastard who did it.

Will keep you posted if anything comes up.

I find it quite interesting to compare where I live & somewhere else I visit often.

Here... we lock everything, we hide everything, we worry a lot (& with good reason).

There... I walk down city centre streets & see laptops, phones, cameras left in cars.

I've not checked, but I'd guess that most of the cars aren't locked either.

I recently watched a woman cycle up to a shop, pick some money out of her purse,

put the purse back in her handbag, in the open front basket of her unlocked bike, with her other shopping, leave the whole lot outside whilst she went to do some more shopping.

A few minutes later her mobile started ringing in the basket.

I wondered about how reckless this person seemed to be, until a moment later, yes, you've guessed it someone else did exactly the same.

Interesting point.

When I went down to a place near Munich to stay at a friends for Oktoberfest, it was a complete contrast to the UK.

The car was going to be parked up for a long weekend, so I decided to put the disklock on. I was told by my friend that I really shouldn't put it on, because if I did the local criminals would think I had something worth nicking and pay the car attention. If it wasn't on then the car was obviously the same as every other car and not worth the extra attention.

Another vote for the stupid to leave stuff on display.

And just as cheezemonkhai say, doing certain things will make criminals wonder what your hiding. I'm refering to your pimp tints.

When our firm considered them, we were told not to as it actually increases car break-in risk!!

Unbelievable, hope they get caught. Hopefully you can get a lot of the glass shards out of the seats. When swmbo had her Yaris broken into I kept finding pieces of glass months later.

Sorry to hear about this mate.

As already said you have had a bad few weeks of late, or your daughter has.

Also as said why should you have to hide your stuff.

I think i might go with that bloke from South Africa's car security system. I.E. a flame thrower but get it linked to the Alarm. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/232777.stm

You may have had to replace the window but at least you would have been able to give the police the Somewhat Crispy Tw*t

Carl:thumbup:

It is stupid to leave stuff on display.

However if someone see's the tell tale sucker marks on a windscreen (my mate never cleans his windows), or has seen you place high value goods in a car before leaving it then thats all the more tempting.

Or they see a wire for something then somepeople will smash and break in even if there is nothing to nick.

There used to be a street in our town centre notorious that people left their gloveboxes open to show criminals that there's nothing in them.

But these scroats should know not to steal from people, hope they get found and that they "walk into a wall" or several.

Fecking hell!!! seems to be a bit of a wave!!!

Was speaking to a kid who comes to our youth group as his mum dropped him off in a new Insignia.

They got burgled, found the keys and tok the car.......

My mate had his nearside mirror kicked off in Oldham, later that day he was driving down to Cornwall, managed to get hold of a rental car.

And was chatting to another girl in Oldham, they had 3 cars taken off their driveway, metal rod through the letterbox, got the keys and away they went.

@Thebrymar - I had the window smashed on my Astra nothing to nick but the mess left by the glass was a bitch to clean up plus I missed a picnic which really didn't help my mood!!

Also when my Dad had a transit van someone smashed the window prob to nick the cheap radio cassette which wasnt taken but again the glass clean up grrrr.

Why can't these kind of people be "eliminated" like wasps?

And People callme wierdas I keep car keys locked away or on me at all times.... I sleep with them under the pillow.... lol

Cheers for the stupid vote  - I obviously wasn't clear enough in my original post. The only items which could be seen were the leads in the centre console, NOT the camera, or the ipod (which was inadvertently left in the car from going out the day before).

And just as cheezemonkhai say, doing certain things will make criminals wonder what your hiding. I'm refering to your pimp tints.

So because I want my car to be practical for my children who travel in the back seats, it's MY fault that some piece of scum decides to put one through my window. My apologies for bringing such an act upon myself. You are entitled to your opinion as to whether or not you think tints are a good idea or not, but please, as a moderator, who we are supposedly meant to look up to, do not use the term 'pimp tints' - it hardly sets an example to the rest of us mere mortals. :thumbdwn:

I never leave anything in the car any more after being broken into twice. First time to get the stereo and second time there was nothing on display bar a manky pair of bike gloves. They nicked the gloves anyway and the CDs from under the seat.

All the CDs in the are are copies now and nothing else stays there.

You shouldn't have to, but you do.

LOL, it's what people call them along with drug dealer tints, or pap tints (for celebs to avaid being papp'd). Because these were the people that championed them.

Fine they may be helpful for kids and sun (what little of it we get) BUT criminals will wonder what you're hiding - especially on an estate. They'll think you're a rep or engineer, and may have parts/tools on board.

So many of my counter parts that have them continually get broken into. I dont have tints, and leave nothing on show and have no probs.

Think like a thief. Look at cars, stuff left on seats, cables and chargers and why do you think? Is what ever connects to it still in the car? Yup in the armrest or the glovebox is 90% of the time the answer.... Ooh tints, now wonder if they're trying to hide something.....

Interesting use of the word 'people' - could possibly replace "it's what people call them" for "I call them".

When I posted the pics of the car after getting it done, no-one referred to them in those terms.

In fact I think I've only come across those terms once - in your post.

Nuff said.

Well I've heard the terms quite a bit, especially pimp tint - google throws up quite a few hits too Google "pimp tints". But then I suspect there are loads of sayings we both know that the other doesnt due to regional differences, age groups, friends etc etc. Eitherway it's only a saying, and nothing to get that worked up over!!

Anyhoo...

What other cars were there? Others with tints? What do they leave on show?

Whatever you want them to be called, wouldnt you agree your tints may have contributed to your break in by making your car stand out to the scroat to take an interest in, given you say nothing of value was visable?

Now I've always thought of estates as dog carriers ....

so I'd think tints to keep the dog cool.

Although I've heard "pimp" & "gangster" used as prefixes to tints too...

Good point about on call engineers using estates,

a term I've heard used here by a pub landlord after hearing of yet another car break-in.

"The smack rats must have woken up & needed something to sell for todays fix"

Perhaps the police should hand out free super strength fixes, then the junkies wouldn't need to steal.

Yes the "there" in my earlier post was abroad and it's much more civilised.

Took car to Rainworth Skoda for a diagnostic check this morning and found out that the interior motion sensor needed replacing.

That probably explains why the d1ckhead didn't run off when he put the window through

Local dealer had problems fitting me in at short notice, so rang Rainworth yesterday afternoon (they are my next nearest dealer). They said bring it in at 10am today and they'd have a look at it.

Arrived at 9.45am, left at 10.30am - excellent service, I have to say - big thanks to Philip for getting me 'secure' again

Why didn't you pop in for a coffee? I only live around the corner!
