Wiper twitch

Featured Replies

Every time I stop and switch off the ignition the front wipers give a little "twitch" as if checking they are parked correctly. It does this regardless of how recently the wipers have been used. Otherwise the wipers work fine.

The car has normal, manual wipers, not rain-sensing or anything clever.

they all do it, something to do with swapping the angle that the blade rests on when parked so its not always one one surface if I remember rightly from a thread a while back.

Another little piece of Octavia design genius - like the slot at the back of the boot on the hatch that lets you slot the parcel shelf against the back seats when you need a taller storage area, or the boot handle inside the hatch lid, or the sunglasses case, or the spring out lever when you release the bonnet, or the bottle holders in the front doors or... or... or...

The more time I spend with it, the more time I spend thinking that my Octy really is a fabulously designed little motor.

Soapy - 6 months in and still a happy driver!

Sunglasses case? What have I missed now?

Pop-down glasses holder in the roof by the interior light.

Classic and Ambiente don't have it, Elegance does have it, don't know about other models.

or... the heater going onto recirc when you wash the windscreen so it doesn't draw in the fumes from the screen wash;

or... the hang down hooks for carrier bags

or... the car park ticket holder

Had mine 2yrs - and still love it!

As to the OP - it is a feature to alternate the way the wipers 'park' with the blade angled 'up' sometimes and 'down' other times to even the wear on the wiper and keep it perpendicular to the screen as much as possible when in use.

Either way; you still need to change your wiper rubbers annually as the get worn out!

the ones on my old L&K lasted for 3 years and were still working well when I traded it in. I always make sure I dont wipe whens there's ice on the screen though

I read as I recall, there parked in a position that creates less wind noise/drag than the position they operate in, if you watch, they hucker down to the bottom

That was certainly true of old-fashioned wiper blades, however, with new aeroblades, this is no longer the case. They're designed to wear less due to the lack of pressure points along the blades.

As for the Octy - it really is a well thought out little car!

i think i have read somewhere there are 5 different rest positions for the front blades to stop them getting a set and consequently that nasty juddery scrape older blades would normally do when they wipe.

shame the rear wiper doesnt do the same trick.

I use "the other one" in the top centre of the dash.

I'm getting a bit worried about my now 7 month old TSi. I can't find one single bl**dy little niggle wrong with it. Not a squeak, not a rattle, no tyre issues, MAYBE I'M GOING DEAF!!!

Mine are originals as well, nearly 4 years old and still work perfectly.

So do I, but one small niggle. The catch is a little too sensitive and when trying to get the TomTom to stay put it invariably springs open. The lead on the TomTom is just too short to reach to the right of the dashboard and I don't want it in my line of sight.

Fortunately I hardly ever use the blessed thing.

It is, as others have said very well thought out.

Didn't know that one.

I have found that the TomTom 530 sits inside the dashboard pop-up quite nicely and with the anti-slip matting means that it doesnt slide.....just looks like a built in model...a nice touch

The vRS also has the sunglasses case...

And the parcel shelf storage area is great. Basically when you take the parcel shelf out there is a little pair of plastic runners that allow you to slide it flat against the back of the rear seats. It then cannot move about and will not get crushed or bent by whatever you're putting in the boot. I discovered it when travelling with the late mother-in-law who needed a wheelchair which wouldn't go in the boot with the parcel shelf in. One of those things that makes you wonder why every car doesn't have it.

Nearly 2 years I've had the VRS and I didn't know that

I only found the storage cubby on the bottom right below the light switch a few months ago. Thought it was the fusebox.

Lots of nice little features but for me the parking ticket holder is the most useful. Simple things make all the difference.

Tried it, but mine (with climatronic) doesn't go into reirc either when you use the washers, or put the car into reverse:confused:

Not that it worries me, just had to try it out when I read this.

The light doesn't come on but you can hear the change in the sound especially if you have the fan on med-high

Indeed they do - how many other cars have you driven where you have a rest for your right foot when using cruise control - every other car I have driven leaves your right foot dangling in the air with nowhere to go.

And also a rest for the left foot. I sometimes feel as though I am due to give birth

Oooh oooh I found another one at the weekend.

There is a little hook on the underside of the parcel shelf, I always wondered what it was for, it's too weak to hold a shopping bag.

It's for holding up the spare wheel cover while you get the bits out to give you two hands free.

SWMBO now thinks I'm a bit strange for getting excited over this, and for taking the wheels off to clean them.

:rofl:I got such a verbal kicking off SWMBO for doing exactly the same thing on Saturday. I picked up a puncture on Friday night on the M1 so had the silly temporary wheel on the car. Took the zenith into the tyre shop on Saturday morning and got a new one fitted, then gave it a thoroughly good clean before putting it back on. Then washed the car and realised that the rear nearside wheel (the one I'd had off) looked miles better than the others. So they all came off for a clean. SWMBO was lounging in the garden reading her book and laughing her head off at me taking the wheels off one by one for a good spring clean inside. She was cruel enough to point out that next time it rains they'll be dirty again.I really must divorce her...

Hey I've discovered another well-thought-out feature of the Octy...

...the clutch pedal and the brake pedal have little shrouds behind them. The clutch pedal has one on its left hand side, presumably to stop your foot getting caught behind it when coming off the footrest. The brake pedal has one on its right hand side, again, presumably to stop your foot getting caught behind the brake pedal when coming off the accelerator.

Its brilliant little touches like these that make me glad I bought a German car!

I said, waxing the inside of the wheel, that it'll make them easier to clean for a while. But it's really just because I'm pedantic. I cleaned all the rubber seals and trim with some autoglym stuff. Looks really good right now.
