Air Con recharge & De-Odorising cost?

Featured Replies

Hi, my AC is a bit smelly and not quite as cold as i reckon it should be, how much will i be looking at to have it recharged (properly) and an anti-bac treatment?? I did a quick google and found a mobile place (Go-Cool Services) they want £125, is that about the going rate?

If anyone can recommend somewhere in the Bristol/Weston super Mare area it would be greatly appreciated......

cheers

The Skoda UK dealers are touting for A/C anti-bac treatments on their website, not sure how much it would be to have the job done properly though..................!

(I have a service due, just wondering what will happen this time..........!)

i work at Renault, and we sell an air con treatment made by Ixell, which IIRC costs about £6

that will remove odours from air con and you can do it yourself, its like an aerosol that you put in your footwell, put your aircon on full and on recirc and set the canister off, leave it until its finished and your odour should be gone

any dealer should have these in stock

I got the air-con recharge done as part of my service yesterday, was £40 ish at the dealer

dunno about it smelling different tho, I hardly use it.

Thanks all..... Had it done at kwik **** today....... still stinks...... :(

It's fine when it is running, but when i turn the AC off and leave the blowers going it smells rank....... I'll be taking it back on monday, if they can't sort it then i'll see if i can find a dealer flogging the stuff brun was talking about. One day i'll go to a garage and they wil fix something, first time, no problems...... I'm not holding my breath though (except when i switch the AC off)

Ah, but KwikFit ain't a garage! I have never heard of them boasting about doing a "de-smell" service on A/Cs - I thought that if they did it everyone would have heard of it. VAG carry out an ultra-sonic clean - but this is not as techical as you might think - an ultra-sonic bath is used to atomise a deoderant solution and as with most other systems, you start it running with the recirculate on and shut the doors. Even Halford sells these sprays, but some of them can cause white dust to be left in the cabin - your next job. Personally I've bought a couple of them but got VW dealer to sort a leak (that I had identified) and clean the system - as you might expect he said "no leak", regassed and cleaned system - so they didn't fix it first time either!

I went to Kwik Fit - charged £40 for a service/recharge and a full clean & debug. Good value for money & the system now works very well. This was a "Special Offer", think they normally charge in the region of 65 sniffs.

Advertised at £45 around the kwik fit's round here. Doesn't look like a limited offer either.

Also if they can't improve on it then you dont get charged.

mines the same, and i got a 10% discount card! worth a try i guess

well, i take it all back........ no more smells

I don't know why, but the day they did it, it still stank. I guess it needed time to get to work on the bacteria, because now it's all smelling good again.

So  to kwik ****......

edit..... They charged me £50 for the recharge, clean & de-bug. My Skoda dealer wanted £96

you can buy the deodorising stuff in halfrauds made by a company starting with c (cant remember the name) in a blue small box. Its a canister about the size of a can of lynx deodorant press the nozzle in, leave behind back seat with air con on and on recirculating and leave for 10 minutes or so. Found it to be pretty good.

Has anyone changed the pollen filter, i did this today and made a massive improvement on the smell, will need to do a re-gass myself though, anyone know of any offers on at the minute?

When these places re-gas your AC system do they check for leaks ??

if you ask them to and if they have the dye to do it.

Yes,the machine they use is almost fool proof. As long as they can read the sticker on the slam panel, that has the correct weight of gas and can input this into the machine. The machine then extract what gas there is in the system and compares it with the figure that was set,it the draws vacuum ,and keeps the system under vacuum for 10 min. If the vacuum reading drops in this time there is a leak and the process stops.if it passes the leak test it then dries the gas it has removed, and then refills the system with the correct amount of gas and oil.Even a kwick krap fitter can't get it wrong.
