Traction Control Warning Light

Featured Replies

Just retrieved my car from long-term airport parking and the traction control light (yellow light with skidding car) is illuminated. My experience of warning lights like this is that they can sometimes be a genuine indication caused by a transient fault, but then stay "locked on".

Is there any way to reset the warning light and then see if the fault re-occurs? Alternatively is there any way to see which part of the TCS has caused the warning light. The car is still under warranty, but I would prefer not to waste a day of my life dragging it into a garage.

Many thanks.

Sorry if this sounds soooo obvious but I take it you have tried the On/Off switch in the centre of the console.

You knew someone had to suggest this, right??

Check the ABS Sensor connections, possible dampness has got into the connections. Or one has a intermittent connection.

Had a similar fault with a astra, all i had to do was take all the connections apart and re-connect them.

Hope This Helps.

Yes, I have tried the ESP on/off switch. My first thought was that one of the drivers at airport parking had been having a little fun!

Just having this same issue.

The cruise control has been failing to work intermittently for two weeks.

Likely linked i'd say.

Was going to check using vag-com but mate's lead is 25 mile away.

I was thinking abs sensor too.

This happened to my 2006 vRS a couple of months ago. Result was ABS control unit failure which is a bill of £1500!! Car was out of warranty but Skoda UK kindly paid half of the bill. Scary!

ps my car has 25K on the clock.

Wifey had this on her Mk5 Golf. It was still under warranty at the time, so we had it repaired and the bill was a grand for a new ABS control module. I seem to remember, though that you could get them repaired (rather than replaced) at considerably lower cost...

There are companies who offer to repair them at £195 + vat but I thought the risk of stripping it off and replacing myself may have resulted in a trip to the dealers and also the hassle of the car being off the road.

Skoda claim they can't be fixed, they gave me back my old one. Apparantly it is a small pressure sensor that fails inside them. It has all the hydraulics connected into it with a multi-pin elec connector.

I will be visiting dealer soon then.

Warranty til May 2010.

Thing is the Rugby dealer has closed and I think Autohaus northampton have stopped doing skoda too.

Leicester Skoda might be a good option as I work nearish.

Foxy, let me know if it's the ABS ctrl unit. This seems to be a recurring fault which Skoda obviously deny and won't do a recall. The fault happens throughout the Skoda/VW/Audi range with ESP equipped models.

Autohaus went into administration on 26th Sept

Pilling of Milton Keynes no longer do Skoda

I'm using Progress Skoda of Bedford, about 40 mins away for me

I am going to drop in on Leicester Skoda tomorrow and see if they can throw it on their VAS1551.

Righto - its not going to be as easy as I thought.

Farmers at Leicester Audi were extremely accommodating - they took the car in on-spec and plugged it into the diagnostics.

They found a fair few fault codes and have determined a fault with the ABS controller and also possibly the brake pedal pressure sensor.

The cruise control is a faulty stalk.

Theyre having it for a few days next week to look at the above, and to do a service, also to look at one rear window which responds opposite to switch commands, and also the severe clutch judder up steep hills when taking up drive moving or stationary.

The car's due in at dealer on Tuesday, and is currently as-was.

Only exception being the cruise switch which has gotten worse and barely ever works now.

I'll keep ya posted!!

When the above happens, does the traction control and abs still function?

If you mean when the traction control light comes one, then the traction control, stability control don't work. Not sure about the ABS, as I haven't had the need or chance to test that.

Come to think of it, if this fault does disable the ABS system, then surely this is justification for VAG/Skoda replacing the units outwith warranty, I can't even agree that having a car fully serviced by Skoda being a requirement, as the ABS unit shouldn't need to be touched in the life of the car.

I'm just hoping that Mr Tesco will cover mine under warranty.

oh well not such a big deal, can always take the bulb out.

Right well the dealer had thre car nearly a week.

They diagnosed the ABS unit and so that was changed under warranty.

Also a new cruise control switch fitted.

They swung me a free brake fluid change under the warranty as they had to do a fluid purge with the new ABS unit, which was nice.

I paid for a dealer oil service and happily so in this case!!

Thunbs up for Farmers Skoda, Leicester,
