CAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!.....Thud.......

Featured Replies

Sunday evening after spending all day painting (we've just bought a house) myself and my girlfriend decided to go and get a takeaway, i phoned our order through and my girlfriend suggested she would drive, and i could run and get the food as i was not covered from head to toe in paint like she was.......

On our way back along the main road, a cat ran across the road right in front of us! I think we both breathed a small sigh of relief as it made it to the other side safely........ Until, all of a sudden it turned tail and bolted back across the road at 100mph

My girlfriend went for the brakes, but it was too late....THUD! :rotz:

The car came to a halt, and my girlfriend broke into tears...... i consoled her for a seconed, then got out the car to run back up the road to find the cat..... I looked everywhere but no cat  Then a horrible thought came across my mind that it might be trapped under the car so i went to check.... No cat.... I'd like to think the cat used one of it's nine lives and got away unscaved, but i doubt it. As when i went to the front of my car, i found that the lower radiator grill had been smashed out of it's fixings, and the lower lip of my front bumper has been split :( Doesn't bode well for the condition of the cat..... I suspect it ran off in shock to die somewhere.

So, as you may guess.... when we got home, we were no longer in the mood for our chinese takeaway.

So, aside from the mangled cat, my beloved car has a slightly mangled bumper! As said, the lower lip has cracked. Is this something that is likely to be easily/cheapily fixed by a body shop? the grill itself just clipped back in no problem, when i first saw it though, it looked worse than it was......

Similar thing happened to us last month. Nicci was driving and like your misses burst into tears. Wasn't too happy myself as we both love pets. When it happened I saw the cat roll across the road then get up and do one. Sure hope it was ok. I did go looking fir it but found nothing. Car wise it popped the lower bumper grill out of nicci's Clio.

For your car. It might be an idea to keep a look outon eBay. They go cheap and often on there. Might work our cheaper than repairing it.

You'd be amazed how much damage a cat can do to a car and still run away and be absolutely fine..

I would think the cat would be OK, they are pretty sturdy unless they go under the wheels.

We had one years ago that kept getting hit and it was fine a nd eventually died of natural causes.

...On the subject of cats, I was up last night until 2:30am rescuing my cat Basil from next doors extension they have been building (started 3 years ago then moved out, not been back since).......there was a huge cat fight and I found him and he couldn't get out so muggins here had to try and climb down 12 foot where he fell and get him using a deck board and some swearing.:mad:...:rofl:

everyone is missing the point, the chinese? kept it in fridge for breakfast? threw it? still available? Did u get chicken balls?

Oh I would have eaten it next morning without a doubt!!!

I would just have added the cat to the take away, Pussy ala fresco

I've hit a cat like that, and it ran off. It's upsetting. If it helps, my cat did it too- it just ran out, the first time we let her outside. Bloke locked up all 4 wheels, she went straight under and out the back. She was fine- shaken up a lot, broke one tooth, bruised, and a bit of fur missing, but otherwise fine. She ran and hid in our garden and then under the bed.

I've hit a cat like that, and it ran off.

Can you sue the owners of said cat? especially after it as left the scene of an accident :rotz:

A few cats in our village have had encounters with cars, and only one died...it went under the wheels. So finger's crossed it's ok.

I had a similar experience last week, but not with a cat. Went out for a spin with two female friends of mine, 60mph, nice open road, when a rabbit decides to run out in front of the car.

It reached the other side, just, but then for reasons known only unto itself, it did a 180...and (thud-thud) ran straight under my wheels

The aforementioned female friends didn't stop crying for 25 miles!!

I have a friend who's always had cats. (one, called Basil as well).. Basil got hit by a car twice! 1st time he was fine..... but the 2nd time (years later) the wheel got him :(

Saddest thing is.. the person that hit him left him in the middle of the road..

A. opposite a school

B. not a main road but the main drag into the local town..

Some people!

I'm sure the lil mog you hit was fine.. as for your car? could a body shop not fill & sand and spray said part? If it's just a split rather then a hole?

My cat got hit by a car / bike last year - I found her laid on one of our beds having a kip, I took her up to the animal hospital and it turned out she had broken her leg in three places! £2500 later she had metal plates and pins in her leg but lived to fight another day, not even got a limp now! That 7 quid pet insurance was one of the best investments I ever made!

Meh, it's a cat... it should have not been so stupid!

^ agreed, my cat got forced to read the green cross code after his broken leg and £1000+ titanium plate. But its light weight, so i see it as an investment, he can run away faster now.. . . maybe

Is your car really worth £1000 for that operation? ANS: Yes because you love it so much.

I've never hit any pets but I once hit a pheasant when I just had my car a week. I was driving along a country road on the way to work and one ran out in front of me. I hit the brakes, didn't hear or feel anything, checked my mirror and there was no sign of it or any feathers. I stopped at the next farm entrance and looked. I wish I had a camera on my phone as it was so funny. It was layed across the bottom grill was the pheasant, still alive! Head one side and legs/tail the other. I carefully removed it and there was no damage to my car only to the pheasant.

Stupid Phucking Pheasants!!

I worry about our cat living next to a road, but guess I should worry about us too... car came round the corner two nights ago and went straight into the front of our neighbours house took down some bushes and a rather heavily posted fence, and just missed their oil tank... (lucky)...

And guess what in our broken country? Thw ******* drove/got towed away, without anyone noticing him... all we have for evidence as some green bodywork, and a green wing mirror.... must have been ****ed, or no liscence/insurance ect :(

note: hope the cats ok.....

I had my cat chipped and it's still slow and lazy.

see when I say that about kids I get frowned upon!! but its the same difference......well ok maybe not.

As for the cat its probably was ok, I've been unlucky to have 3 cats killed by cars when I was a kid. The road was used as a short cut and most cars cut through at 60+ (30mph road) again everytime it was under the wheels job and a right mess. only one that was not a mess as the kitten that got sucked under the car as it was going that fast.

Nah I'd agree. It's all natural selection!

If a kid runs in front of a moving, noisy, chunk of metal then he/she's probably not gonna be a brain surgeon :)

I hit no fewer than 6 pigeons this morning on the way to work in the Passat. They were sat in the road at about 05:30 and they just didn't get off the ground fast enough so I ploughed into them at 60mph.

The damage was actually quite extensive - the plastic cover that holds the lower indicator repeater was lost somewhere and that's painted, so it's pricey (£9.50 for the plastic trim becomes £72.52 painted and fitted) and the big lump of a grille bit now has a dent and two broken horizontal spars. A new chrome SEL grille is £175 so it will be getting a plain one from ebay at half that.

I never really liked the chrome grille anyway and the £72.52 is better than it could have been, but I felt utterly awful about ploughing through so many birds. I had to neck two of them because they weren't quite dead. Lovely. And when the sun drops a bit I need to wash all the gore off. Thank goodness for the foam lance!

I came home from work the other evening to find that one of our kittens(born to a stray in our yard) was flattened only a few meters from my driveway. Two others had run off and one had taken shelter in bushes at the entrance to our estate while the other had managed to cross the main road unscathed and was crying loudly at his sister from across the road. Burying a smushed kitty is not fun :rotz:
