Ps3 snafu

Featured Replies

I got one of them there Intelipanel plug socket mallarkies last year, and finally got round to setting it up a few days ago. It's supposed to switch everything off when you turn the TV off thus saving precious electrickery.

It also has a mind of it's fkn own, as it seems to switch off at the drop of an Edwardian Gentleman's top hat. I switched the PS3 on today as I wished to download Final Fantasy VII for the poosp, and the bloody plug switched it off mid-startup!

The result was "Cannot start. Hard Disk could not be found." After researching some PS3 forums and 'turning it off and on again' about 15 times, then removing the HD and putting it back again another 15 times, it became apparent that the HD was FU.

A short visit later to my local computing emporium, and I am the proud owner of a 2.5" 250Gb hard disk. I'd read that the PS3 int very good with 320 and higher, and I can't see me using anywhere near 250Gb. The good news is that it's back to fully operational. The bad news is that I've lost all me game saves and a few fillums and poosp games.

I read somewhere that those turn off devices shouldnt be used with some devices.

Really, the TV should be the master for a games console setup.

just leave everything on , none of us will be around when the earth runs out of things to burn to make elastictrickery

:iagree:

The TV is the master in the setup. There's a little IR reciever that switches the plug on and off, it's a bit hit and miss really as you have to switch the plug on with the TV remote before you switch the TV on. If you're not quick enough switching the TV on, then it switches everything off again. Or it takes the switching the TV on beam as a signal to switch everything off again. Also, If the TV displays "unknown format" and goes black, the plug switches off!

hhahahaha. Nice one!

I'm probably missing something here, but what's wrong with a decent power strip (I tend to use Belkin's SurgeMaster range) and then switching everything off at the wall when you're not using the setup?

Sad times about the hard drive, but that's what can happen when they get starved of power during spin-up and/or data access.

Steve

if the block uses an IR reciever to turn everything off/on and you have a plasma TV then this could be the cause. Plasma TV's emit IR by their very design, and I guess its possible if the IR in the power block is a basic one that it misunderstood the background noise and thought it was a signal to turn everything off.

:iagree:

lolz! I will try and move the IR receiver a shelf down to see if that makes a difference.
