Rolling Road Day 18th July 2009 Pre/Post guestimates & pics/banter

Featured Replies

For explanation of 'wonky' (I'll keep using that as a technical term!) graphing of runs 2 & 3, Mr Tester Man said the dyno equipment was picking up 'high frequency' feedback from the car. He said this sometimes happens and is completely random and not specific to a particular car make/model and possibly caused by tyres or electrical equipment. He'd done a separate printout of run #1 which was graphed properly, but that was it.

Bit disappointed, as for me the graph printouts of where the car produces BHP and torque is as important as the headline figures. Does put me off running it again on a RR day I'll organise later in the year too!

Tried Ebay or a local scrapyard

We're looking into all the local breakers and ebay, we're just worried that if we dont find a car that we know the owners and what kind of life the car has had this might happen again, I guess this is always going to be a problem with this type of car

check on scooby net matt , its a good resource , maybe someone o nthere has an idea of availability

Oh dear that's a real shame. Hope you get something sorted soon

Did it go pop on the rollers?

  • Author

It jumped up on the rollers and smoked a bit but another 2 runs were carried out, then as we drove out of the car park it developed a knocking noise between 2,500rpm-3,00rpm and that was that :( we managed to limp him back to the A64 and it finally gave up and died, he had to get towed the rest of the way.

on hearing that knocking now makes sense that it was prob the crank, which I had any car break down cover now, might have not been so terminal.

crank knock on scooby's is allways terminal, some seem to run for months after first hearing it some for only minutes, its the one weak point on the otherwise superb flat four engine, how many miles had it done?

95k miles

the ones that seem to go do tend to be at 100k ish, looks like a bit of bad luck, send it to scooby clinic with 4k and it will come back freshly re built with 400bhp:D

every cloud has a silver lining and all that:thumbup:

Not good about the Impreza.

For a rebuild, i would use David at API.

API Engines

Does anyone know when the graphs and video's will be placed up on awesome's website?

will be a while yet if it's like last time.

It can be sometimes be by mid-week after the day; I think it just depends how busy they are really.

Steve

Good point. Perhaps the ones I've seen have had a directional exhuast, like the Fab vRS. There was one run with my old one, where you could see the smoke billowing past that exit door at the back :D

This still doesn't explain my wonky graphs though ;)

Steve

My lungs still feel the pain of that smokey run ! Was funny.

Awesome have been a little short staffed lately. They will update the page ASAP, last year it was a few weeks before it was done as it's the summer time and people tend togo on holiday in July/August so the staff left will be really busy.

  • 2 weeks later...

Heres just a couple of cars that i managed to catch .

Just checked the Awesome website - looks like they haven't managed to get them uploaded yet.

As we speak it is being worked on

It is Ade`s fault , but then he has been off for a couple of weeks , but it is being worked on
