Umbrella

Featured Replies

I have had my Superb for several months, although I have only managed to do a small mileage.. I am very pleased with it.

One of the many quirky fittings is the umbrella, which I had no reason to use until last week, when I thought I would put on a show for my passengers. It was not there. I told the dealer but I was not surprised that I will have to pay for a replacement, although I am pretty sure that I never had one. The car has never been unlocked when out of my sight.

I was once a supplier to a legendary car company and I got my then teen- aged son a holiday job which let him work in several departments in their factory. He found out that there was an active black market for the emblem which was fitted to each car. They were often missing when the car was sent to the dealer and in some markets they had to be sent separately. At the end of his stay, there was a very unofficial presentation from his workmates. No prizes for guessing the company.

Is the umbrella often missing from new Superbs?

Just ordered a new Superb Elegance yesterday. I will make a point of checking for an umbrella upon delivery!!.

Curious to know how much the dealer will sting you for a replacement!!

VW?

Beastie behaviour ;)

My umbrella was missing, the supplying dealer effectively accused me of lying, he said he would send one, he never did and I haven't chased him.

I've heard they are often missing

When I checked my car on collection I found the umbrella missing. Dealer informed me that they do not come with the car as many went missing, and they could only get them once car was sold. Three weeks after collection I had a phone call that the umbrella had arrived. No charge was made, as it is included in specs. Your dealer should get the umbrella for you at no charge.

I have been told it is £29.00

Mine was there on delivery and is still sitting there in its little sleeve

From the drivers door its a pain as you have to walk around the car to get it out of the rear passenger door

When I picked up my car, the dealer actually pointed out the umbrella. He also said that they order a spare to go with each car as lots go missing between the factory and selling dealer. Though have to point out, I was only given the one, so they must have spares.

mine was delivered without umbrella, so I called my dealer (Progress Skoda in Letchworth) and asked the salesman what was the one thng that no other car came with as standard? He arrived the next day with said umbrella and an apology - fair do's he took the one out of the demo car!!

I'm in Singapore, mine came w/o umbrella too. This is not right, and yet to receive a replacement. Dealer has been very quiet about this.

Don't understand how and why these unbrella got stolen.. could it be the factory people? :) or..

Is it rain heavily recently at Skoda factory or at the port?

Hi Guys,

My Superb was also supplied without an Umbrella, fortunately I'd carried out my own pre-delivery check and informed the dealer, who stated that they are nearly always missing on delivery.

Skoda Customer service did a great job by supplying the missing item FOC.

It doesn't seem difficult to resolve the problem, Skoda should supply locally once the car is at the dealers.

Warmest Regards,

Metrology

Hi, comrades just bought today a superb 1.9tdi s pd in silver will i get an umberella, if not is the recess still there regardless of model:confused:

Yep, my leased Superb II elegance arrived just before last Christmas. Didn't think to check the brolly for a couple of months and sure enough - no brolly there. Contacted the leasing company months ago. still waiting to hear...

It such a small thing, but having made a sales point of it, so niggly.

PS Boots do a cheap collapsing brolly with a "gear-knob" handle which fits the Superb's door-hole. Just not right, though.:(

Old Renders

Looking outside at the moment..... any umbrella will do

It is not standard on the S and will be blanked off.

On 15 July, I spoke to my dealer and ordered a replacement umbrella. As I have said he quoted me £29, so it is a relatively minor matter.

Since then I have phoned three times to ask if it was ready to pick up. I reached the Service Manager only once, when I was told that "innumerable" checks had been done on my car and boxes ticked to show the umbrella was in place; these records were archived and not available. He has not returned subsequent calls.

What he has also not done in almost a month is to either supply an umbrella.or tell me why he can't.

I will not bother with this dealer again but for a fine car like the Superb such lousy service is irritating

I have just had a call from the dealer to say that my umbrella will be available next week.

During a motoring history of over 50 years, I have had many excellent cars, latterly mostly Mercedes and BMWs. My experience with dealers has been good and I have had few complaints. I think that the Superb is as good a car as any of them (and a good deal cheaper) but the standards of service are very different.

I have aired problems with my Skodas twice before and I owe the resolution of my complaints to this site. Could the timing of this call, a month after my order but just after my posting here, be a coincidence?

I hesitate to "name and shame" because I think people are doing their best. What I feel they lack is sales training and direction.

It's obvious that most skoda dealers were not trained. This is consistant worldwide, i guess. I asked for this little umbrella for months to no avail. No response, no reason and no reply. However, on the other side, I do heard that they usually don't get good support from the factory as well. Chain effect !!

Here you can see what kind of attention you will get for supporting their product. Umbrella might be a small matter, but..but.. it's not the price of an umbrella, it's the service that count. A tiny stone can crack and bring down a wind screen.. this is what Skoda can not understand in 100 years being in this industry. :)

Min came with the unbrella, but I believe that it is not a standard item on all models. In Norway the available models of the Superb are: Comfort, Green Line, Ambition and Elegance. The cheapest one, the Comfort comes without an umbrella.

Just pop a bottle of Vodka in there instead... much for useful! :P

I suppose if I own a Skoda , I will always have something to write to this site about.

I was in the south west a couple of weeks ago and when visiting Buckland Monocorum (I hope I got that right) I stopped at a passing place to let a Dark blue Skoda Fabia get through. He did so at high speed and hit my side mirror, breaking the acrylic lens. He did not stop or even slow down so I did not get his registration.

As soon as I got back, I asked my dealer for a quote. That was a week ago and I have not heard from him. Yet I phoned another dealer and he gave me a price of about £56 while I was on the phone. He also offered to get me an umbrella in a couple of days.

As a worn out plastic moulder, I know the lens cost about 10p to make and the tooling would be long since amortised. But that is not the reason for this story.

I wonder if this post will result in a phone call within hours? It will not do any good, they have lost me as a customer.

Makes you feel that way doesn't it, lovely car let down by penny pinching Skoda, you can blame the dealer but I believe the reason the dealer is poor is because they struggle to get the money from Skoda.

Goodness Gracious, I sit here in my leather wingback chesterfield, dressed in my finest silk paisley pyjamas and quilted smoking jacket, enjoying the last few embers of a San Cristobal and a small snifter of 1963 Dow's vintage port, and I lament the passing of a far gentler age.

Is it too much to ask that when the weather becomes inclement, and dark brooding clouds give way to thick globules of summer rain, a chap can rely on the necessity of a sturdy yet stylish umbrella tucked away in the rear passenger door of his motorcar to protect his sartorial accoutrements against besmirchment from the elements?

I am aghast at the caddish behaviour of these motor dealers who place fiscal prudence ahead of customer satisfaction. To think that a gentleman's umbrella should be missing from it's rightful place, frankly makes my stomach turn, and brings a tear to my eye. What next? The cessation of gentlemen laying their capes across deep puddles in order to prevent young ladies' footwear from becoming damp?
