If you have a PD engined car on Fixed servicing, it does not matter what make of oil you use as long as it meets VW 505.01 spec and is 5W-40. There is a list in the Fabia I section. If your car is on Variable servicing you have to use Long life oil. However I have read on a SEAT forum's TDI oil thread that it is recommended to use the higher spec oil in PD engines with 150+ BHP even on ordinary servicing.

I now use the Millers stuff (XFE-PD). I think dealers use either Quantum or Castrol oils.

Wish I hadn't read this as it's got me worried :'( - I bought mine from a Peugeot dealer with

a full Skoda dealer service history (all the same garage - Dean of Dumfries) - it isn't due a

service until March (last Skoda service March '09) but the dealer did an oil change anyway (well,

they told me they did :S ) - I've no way of knowing whether they used PD oil or not - I've done

approx. 1,500 miles since I bought the car in October - now thinking of bringing the service

forward a month - any views?

Peugeot HDi engines use 5W-40 as well - should I

be ok if they used this?

If in any doubt have the oil changed to VW505.01 PD oil. If wrong oil is used, it's the camshaft injector lobes and rockers that wear.

Good idea, £34 for the oil, or £xxx for a camshaft.
