Vrs or Ibiza Cupra ??

Featured Replies

Over the last eight years ive changed my car every year ,, until my vrs came along ! This is the longest Ive ever kept a car and Im getting twitchy !! Id like to see what peoples opinions are,, would you keep the vrs or change it for something similar ? Maybe the octavia vrs or a Ibiza td cupra ?

I was looking at Cupra's when i bought my Fab. I went for the Fab as i could only find FR's. The Cupra's are fantastic cars, Id be happy to trade my Fab for one!

I'v had a look at some cupra's recently, very nice cars

Cupras are nicer, unless your buying my fabia, in which case, vRS's are nicer.

What do you reckon to this one ??

SEAT Ibiza 1.9 TDI Cupra 3-Door Hatchback

Having moved from Ibiza Sport PD130 (FR before they rebadged it) to a Fabia I'd say driving is exactly the same but the Ibiza is better put together.

I would however stay away from the Cupra TDi - they seem over priced compared to similarly specced cars (especially for the yellow!) and the insurance (group 15 rather than 9) would be a serious hinderence.

Also with the 3 or 4 grand you save by buying an FR you could get it remapped to more power than a standard Cupra anyways :D

That said the alloys on the Cupra are lush and this one looks cheap of you don't mind not being yellow!

I'd be tempted by a Leon TDI 150 instead as the leon itself is a better platform and the resale values arent as high

I think the interior of the Ibiza is a bit tacky and cheap compared to the Fabia.

WRONG! :P

It's for sale at a company called "Left Hand Drive European" (pandering to our immigrant market i guess) but the details and pics shown it as RHD

you want an FR anyhow

I looked at the Ibiza recently but got my first VRS instead.

Factors for me were running costs.

Having got rid of a Civic and Integra Type R we needed something cheaper to run and the Fabia fits the bill better. Ibiza's are nice cars, but it depends what you want really.

What are the reasons for the change? You want something quicker or is it just because you are bored? Is the Ibiza that much better for the extra cost?

Im getting bit sick of the interior really , car is good , and yeah getting bit bored

Maybe do something with the Fabia, thats what I used to do with the Civic. New seats, struts ....... the list goes on and I kept that for 5 years

Or test drive the Ibiza if you haven't already and see if that feels any better

I know the feeling... boredom.

Personally I don't think the oil burning Ibiza will offer all that much extra performance and it is getting on a bit now - quite an old car. As other people have said, it depends really what you want, something faster, something cheaper to run and so on.

As crazy as it sounds, I find giving my Fabia some TLC - a good clean inside and out (especially inside) can make it "seem like new" and stave off that boredom. I also spent £300 ish on a remap, to make my VRS faster, that will sort me out for a few months.

I think the saying is "familiarity breeds contempt" and we may not realise just what a good combination of performance and cost the VRS is until we sell it :)

full leather retrim from Seat Surgeons - £800

interior that looks like new and as far as i'm aware they'll do any colour you like! ;)

Cheaper than a Ibiza too! :o

have considered one of these but due to insurance which is high and the price tag. so i got a vrs instead.

I used to have one and i have to say the Fabia is not far off as good

The ibiza was very nice, but the insurance was silly with it being such a high group and the seats are very good at holding you in but so damn uncomfortable!

Overall i dont miss the Ibiza, the Fabia can be made into a car that is just as quick and as good handling pretty easily

Cupra > vRS

was weighing this up a few months ago...the FR or vRS might remap to more than standard Cupra power but you can remap a Cupra too and you're still missing (amongst other things) the bigger wheels (on the vRS), 312 brakes with AP calipers, bigger turbo, decent FMIC, sportier looks/handling, more sensible interior and standard fit ESP

as for running costs, I seem to be getting high 40's going to/from work and insurance is just over £400 with the mods declared and covered like for like

:)

Interesting, as I think the interior on the Ibiza MK4 looks better, and less 'old' than the fabia being all grey and square.

Not that I have either anymore but hey.

cant beat the vrs. more disirable i think.

I remember when the Cupra diesel came out. The ride and price came in for criticism, and the consensus in the press seemed to be get an FR and remap it, as you'll save on purchase price, insurance (perhaps) and chiropractor bills!

I thought about the FR diesel, but it had too few doors at the time (I think a 5-door came out later) and I absolutely hated the dash... :ne_nau:

to nick ;) lol besides ibiza is faster :D

but we're talking used so initial purchase price isn't as much of an issue, especially with the crazy prices people seem to both ask and pay for a vRS.

Thanks to the randomness that is car insurance, I'm paying a good £150 less to insure the Ibiza compared to the Focus and I don't find the ride even a bit harsh (not as smooth as the Focus was on Eibachs though) and it doesn' seemt to pitch/roll like people reckon the Fabia does

:)

I remember when the first Golf TDI 150 came out (possibly Mk 4 Golf). Diesal Car Magazine reported it had a large Turbo and this meant lots of Turbo lag. It was better to buy a PD130 and remap it. Does anyone know if the Cupra 160 has a large turbo and suffers from Turbo lag?
