Best options for Fabia VRS

Featured Replies

Hi to all you Skoda heads,

New kid on the block I'm afraid. However, I will be ordering my first (a Fabia VRS) next week following some revealing research and a very impressive test drive.

I'm considering the following spec:

Black magic paint (I don't mind washing it loads!)

Xenons

Sunroof

Passenger air bag de-activation switch (girlfriend has ideas....)

Then maybe:

Cruise control

ESP - really needed?

Side airbags

What I need is some advice from you seasoned VRS owners as to which options are good/poor/worthless or maybe essential....any money saved will be put towards a sat nav system. Garmin or TomTom? Again any advice appreciated.

Spragg

PS Very useful and friendly website!

I would move cruise control up into the 'definate' category.

Mine came with the airbag de-activation switch even though I didn't ask for it (and didn't pay for it either) so check that it isn't now standard.

And the trouble with side airbags is you never know you need them until it's too late. So I got them.

I would say Black Magic then Cruise (check my sig)

Black Magic  is the only colour for a vRS.

Never had cruise before but wouldn't be without, makes Motorway cruising so easy.

I must remember to try my cruise control, had the car for a few weeks now and just under 1000 miles but I just never remember to try it out when on the mway. I have no wish to try the side airbags out though but it's nice to know they are there :o

Yes Black Magic is the best color by far for a vRS although I have found mine needs 2 shampoo's which is more like a work out and the Karcher pressure washer is a godsend (well B&Q but it is next to a church). I spent ages washing and drying it yesterday and it looked the dogs danglies by the time I had finished.. but after popping to the village later in the evening I nearly cried after seeing the mud splattered up the back.. damn potato harvest time and so much mud on the roads

Do I regret getting black.. not at all because it suits the car so well. :P

Xenons are great if you do a lot of night driving like me, ESP, well not sure as I won't know until it kicks in, hopefully when it is needed but it's a safety feature like the side airbags so don't regret having it.

Sunroof, some say not needed due to the air con but I just like having one.

Thanks for the advice. I'll probably go for the lot!

Don't suppose anybody has any news/advice on current delivery times? Got told 8 weeks last time I asked.

Anybody done a track day in a vrs? Are there any organised meetings?

Thanks again for the tips.

Black Magic...

You will wash it twice a week but its worth it :) My car was a basic spec, only option was metallic paint (which i got free) all the other 'options' I added myself ;)

Our first national trackday was in April this year, at Bruntingthorpe airfield, great weather, great people great day out.

Last month we had another meet at the Trax event at Silverstone circuit and our next gathering is here:

Sure we will again have a full complement of the various flavours of Skoda, diesel and petrol powered big and small.

There are still 9 track places available ;)

Go for it. The only box I didnt tick were the heated seats & disc changer. If you have the money for the options I can't see you regretting any of them. It's certainly a nice enough car to go option crazy on. Leave some money for an upgraded HU though ;)

I had to wait the full 10 weeks, the options do not help but I did not want to compromise on what I had set my heart on, first new car and all that. :P

My thoughts are:- Why have a Sunroof when you have Air con ?

1) Black attracts enought heat without having more glass.

2) Why have the air con On with the sunroof open ?

3) What is the point ?

One piece of advice - if you can get all the options you want excluding cruise and that spec car would be available in a couple of weeks instead of months for the cruise'd version' date=' go for the non-cruise: you can always add cruise later ;) However, as much as cruise can "easily" be added (one of Briskoda's memebers is a proper Skoda mechanic who fits cruises with his eyes shut when he's bored at the weekend :D ), I would [b']not[/b] want to go for aftermarket xenons, side airbags or airbag deactivation switch although they can arguably be added later on - just too dangerous

Edited to say:

cruise provides a different left hand stalk

?iid=y1ssi1&outx=600&oq=0

and here's the airbag deactivation switch

?iid=y1ssi2&outx=600&oq=0

For the physical look of xenons on a black magic fabia vrs

?iid=y1ssis&outx=600&oq=0

HTH :)

Looks like someone needs to learn how to link to Fotopic

You used to be able to do it, monkeyspanger

Quick question, with the xenons you get the washer jets but looking at them they don't look as though they stick up enough. Do they rise out of the bumper? It's just that I'm getting mine at the weekend hopefully and having not seen any in the flesh, I was just curious! :o

They rise out of the bumper - I'm sure Xavier(TFboy) has some pics somewhere.

Cheers Andy... ;)

Like this, in fact.

They seem to retract themselves after about 2 seconds even if the screen washers are kept on. Just as well or you'd have no washer fluid left.

Thanks for that! :)

Hmm. Sure I did but can't find them

The pic above shows it pretty well. The jet of water is rather high pressure. But it only activates after about a second of pulling the washer stick by the wheel.

So if you do a quick squirt, you'll only get the windscreen. If you hold it down, the light washers spring (litterally!) into action

Thanks for the help people, I understand how they work now...

I'll try and do a little video at some point so you can see how they work if you want. :)

That'd be nice but don't go to any serious/time-consuming effort for it, it's not that I don't appreciate it, I just don't want you inconveniencing yourself... :)

Go for heated seats, the VRs's heater takes ages to reach the required temperature in winter whilst the seats warm up almost immediately.

Heated seats are great in the winter :D.
