RNS510/Columbus - Dual to single antenna adaptor

Featured Replies

Im a definate and if you can get just one at that price I'm willing to be the guinea pig to see if it works. Either way I'm not fussed as £25 is not a big risk.

Let me know if you want me to try it before ordering a bulk lot. Don't know if you can get just one but it's an idea to try to save everyone else the hassle

Well we do have one other option of getting just the one cable in and splitting cost.

Buying a single cable will cost around £32 delivered.

If there are 10 of us interested then we could all contribute £3 and buy a single cable in.

Mater has offered to Guinea Pig for us.

If it doesn't work then each of us us down £3.

Not the end of the world.

If however it works, we can then order a further 9 at the cost indicated - we could even factor in the slightly higher price of the first unit.

Example:

1 at £32 Delivered

9 at £23 Delivered

Would only add around £1 - £2 to the overall cost of the cables.

So if anyone would be interested in doing this - £3 Paypal payment initially to get one cable in and tested.

If it works we go on with the GB.

If it doesn't then we're each only £3 down.

I'm happy either way, so I'll go with the flow.

When you've got the other responses in I'll Paypal the relevant amount straight away.

Thanks for setting it up - much appreciated

Hopefully if it works I might be able to listen to the footy on 5 Live

The only problem I can see is, it's not going to be a black and white, work or not work. It'll likely be a signal quality thing which for example could be ok in some areas but not others, whereas the more expensive one might offer more reliable reception, more of the time. This is of course just pure conjecture. I'm just not sure of the value of the beta test thing.

I say just get them and if we're not happy with the results, sell them on to some suckers on vwnavi. :)

I may have managed to get a sensible delivery charge on odering a single "test" cable - with the promise of a future order of another 10 if it does the job.

Mater - If it's OK with you I'll take you up on your offer to be Guinea Pig.

As soon as I have the cable I'll get you to PM me your address and I'll get it out to you.

If it works - you keep that cable and we can arrange payment for it once I know the full "per unit" cost etc.

Yup im happy with that mate.

Just let me know when you want the Address and i'll ping it across.

Im away for a week or so week after next but as it's only a 10 min job to do it i will do it when i get back at the weekend if it has arrived by then

Just the reason i want it for :D

Carl:thumbup:

I've been away for the weekend so I'm just playing catch-up on this thread now.

The "box of tricks" although doing exactly what we want it to do, is expensive and I need 15 people to get the lower price anyway.

So it really leaves us down to the cable.

I can order that at any number - obviously the more people who want one the lower the overall cost (slightly).

As per the rules of this part of the forums I guess I should put an end date and then ask for definite numbers, which I'll confirm at the end and then get an order placed.

The only thing is, I'm in the same boat as you all - we are taking a punt and we could each get a cable and find that it doesn't do what we want.

I doubt I can get any returns if they don't work so I'm asking that you don't all come back to me for a return if it turns out these don't do as expected!

So please bare that in mind while you decide if you want to go for it or not.

I am actually away next weekend as well, so I'll put an end date of this GB of:

Monday 24th August

This is the day I get back and I'll PM everyone who has shown an interest and get some definite figures.

One day late, but if possible Stoofa can you add me to the list?

Just so everyone knows the status:

Today I've ordered a single cable and expect delivery "as and when".

Paying over the odds for delivery (although less than the site indicates).

Once it arrives Mater is going to be our Guniea Pig.

Once we know if it works we'll either abandon this GB because they don't.

Or we'll go ahead - at this point I'll know exactly how many we're buying and should be able to give you the exact shipped price to your door.

So despite the end date of yesterday (24th) please feel free to continue showing interest and we'll close the GB once we know the cable will or won't work.

I'll be surprised if it doesn't as it's only splitting the signal. But I will let you all know once I've got it in.

Carl:thumbup:

Time will tell whether splitting the signal means a weaker signal - I'm no techie so I don't know if that might be a side effect.

Good of you to the GBGP Carl - I'm sure you'll take great pleasure in blowing the b*gger up if it doesn't work.

Can't wait to hear those immortal words "Arsenal 6" on 5 Live !!! :D

One thing I thought of.

The aerial has an amp in it, and the radio pumps power to it yes? So will this pump too much power into one aerial and blow the amp?

AFAIK the power to the aerial amp comes from a separate connector, not from the HU...

Have you applied for a Skoda Mastertech's position yet, Sim ? ;)

You probably know more than some of them do just by coming on here

Lol, the boy probably is just technically minded. As i recall, anyone who had a 17, 13 and 10mm spanner and a bit of practical savvy could do almost any mechnical maintainance job on the good old Rapids and Estelles!

While we wait for the results of the cable test (cable will be arriving with me today and then we await the testing), I'm still looking for a cheaper option.

Desperately looking for a UK supplier for better pricing.

Looking at the product:

KUFATEC GmbH - VW Antennenadapter - Verteiler - FAKRA 36928

Can anyone tell me what the name of the single connector is?

It's Dual-Fakra, but Dual-Fakra to what?

It's not DIN or ISO (I've found numerous dual-Fakra to both ISO and DIN adaptors).

Cheers.

Thanks for that.

I couldn't really tell from the picture what type of connector was at the "single connector" end.

The first cable arrived today and will be making it's way to Mater ASAP for testing.

Once he's confirmed it works (fingers crossed) we'll move the GB to the next stage.

Excellent. Hope the test works, I'm pretty sure it should. Just a question of FM signal degredation.....

The good thing is that AM signal propogates over longer distances better so even if the signal is degraded a bit it shouln't matter too much.

Did the cable arrive?

I have been away.

I have a Card to collect a parcel which i will collect tomorrow. But as i am waiting for a number of things it could be anything :D

Stoofa. Did you post it to me yet?

Edit: just seen what day you posted you got it and as the parcel was tried to be delivered on Saturday i doubt it :D. Just so your all aware folks im going to be away with work for a bit. Im hoping to be back home this weekend though so that i can test the cable.
