Red Admiral butterfly

Featured Replies

OK - So it's no Nikon thingy with some "penis replacement" lens on it (Sorry Xav! ;)) but I got this red admiral sitting on a budlia in the front garden earlier. Just snapped it on my P.O.S phone. Classic point, click and hope the timing is good for when the wings are spread out, not joined at the top! Fair success anyway. :o

Hate to be the one to break the news, Jason, but that Red Admiral is actually a Painted Lady

So it's not a Moth then..............:)

Nope - that's a tortoiseshell :)

Well blow me. I took that pic several years ago and I assumed it was a red admiral - having now googled the real thing I can see my error - really very different.

Cheers chaps - every day is a school day.

I got this photo of a peacock butterfly the other day on my D50.

Buddleja davidii, if I'm not mistaken. A kind of Maccy D's for butterflies.
